Tunisia's Hamdi Dhouibi was leading the Decathlon after winning three events and
accumulating 2444 points during the morning session of the African Championships
on Thursday.
In second place was the Senegalese Maba Ndiaye with 2350 points and Algeria's Yousef Redouane was third with 2308 points. Another Tunisian Anis Riahi was fourth with 2274, Ben Yahia of Algeria and Faraj Imed of Libya were fifth and sixth with 2270 and 1996 points respectively. Sherteel Naim, also of Libya, was trailing with 1693 points.
Dhouibi sprinted to victory in the 100 metres and stopped the clock in 10.74 secs from Redouane (10.76) and Behyahia (10.86). The leading Tunisian then registered the best long jump mark of 7.29 metres, with Redoaune (7.22) and Ndiaye (7.10).
Then in the shot, Dhouibi put 12.58 metres, ahead of Ndiaye's 12.25 metres and Benyahia's 12.24 metres.
The Decathlon High jump and 400 metres are programmed for later tonight.
Other events planned for this evening are the women's javelin final, men's 400 metres hurdles first round, women's long jump final, women's 1500 metres first round, women's 400 metres final, men's discus final, men's 3000 metres steeplechase final, women's and women's 4x100 metres final.
