Some of the world’s best pole vaulters will be looking to test themselves on the eve of the Tokyo Olympics when they compete at the Muller British Grand Prix – a Wanda Diamond League meeting – in Gateshead International Stadium on 13 July.
World champions Karsten Warholm, Yulimar Rojas, Tajay Gayle, Anzhelika Sidorova and Kelsey-Lee Barber are among the first stars confirmed for the Meeting Herculis EBS – part of the Wanda Diamond League – in Monaco on 9 July.
The 2021 Wanda Diamond League continues on Thursday (10), with Florence welcoming many of the world’s best athletes for the Golden Gala Pietro Mennea.
There was inspiration aplenty to be found in the venue for today’s Wanda Diamond League press conference, the splendidly decorated main salon of the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, with its soaring painted ceiling and marble statues.
World Athletics Heritage Plaques honouring the Netherlands’ Fanny Blankers-Koen and the Continental Tour Gold meeting which bears her name, and Austria’s combined events mecca, the Hypo-Meeting, were unveiled during the past fortnight, respectively in Hengelo and Götzis.
The 2021 World Athletics Continental Tour Gold series continues on Monday (7) and Tuesday (8) with the Paavo Nurmi Games in Turku, Finland.
