Sprint stars Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Andre De Grasse will headline the Kamila Skolimowska Memorial in Silesia, Poland, on Sunday (5), a World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting, while there will also be a wealth of champions in action in the field events, including a fond farewell to a legend of Polish athletics in Piotr Malachowski.
Fraser-Pryce will race her specialist event, the 100m, and the two-time Olympic champion at that distance should prove tough to beat, having clocked a PB of 10.60 in Lausanne last week.
De Grasse will line up in the 200m, the event in which he&rsquo;s the Olympic champion, having clocked a Canadian record of 19.62 to take gold in Tokyo, which he backed up in fine style with a wind-assisted 9.74 (2.9m/s) to win over 100m at the Eugene Diamond League. Also in the field are Italy&rsquo;s Filippo Tortu, Turkey&rsquo;s Ramil Guliyev and Britain&rsquo;s Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake.
Another Olympic champion will be in action in the men&rsquo;s 110m hurdles, with Jamaica&rsquo;s Hansle Parchment looking to back up that Tokyo win against a formidable USA&rsquo;s Devon Allen.
Brazil&rsquo;s Alison Dos Santos, who took bronze in Tokyo in a South American record of 46.72, should prove tough to beat in the 400m hurdles. Fellow Olympic finalist Yasmani Copello of Turkey should be his closest pursuer.
US pair Michael Cherry and Vernon Norwood will be big contenders in the men&rsquo;s 400m along, while Poland&rsquo;s Karol Zalewski and Kajetan Duszynski should mount a strong challenge on home turf.
Jamaica&rsquo;s Candice McLeod is the fastest in the field this year in the women&rsquo;s 400m, while the home charge is led by Justyna Swiety-Ersetic and Anna Kielbasinska, the latter in sparkling form following a PB of 50.38 in La Chaux-de-Fonds last month.
Nigeria&rsquo;s Tobi Amusan, who clocked 12.60 to finish fourth in the Olympic final, should be tough to beat in the 100m hurdles, though USA&rsquo;s Christina Clemons will put it up to her along with Jamaica&rsquo;s Megan Tapper.
The women&rsquo;s 400m hurdles features a clash between the fourth-, fifth- and sixth-place finishers in the Olympic final: Janieve Russell of Jamaica along with Anna Ryzhykova and Viktoriya Tkachuk of Ukraine.
There will be a string of local heroes in action across the field events, with Olympic champion Wojciech Nowicki headlining the men&rsquo;s hammer field, which also includes four-time world champion Pawel Fajdek and the man who split the Poles on the podium in Tokyo: Eivind Henriksen of Norway.
All eyes will be on Piotr Malachowski in the men&rsquo;s discus as the 38-year-old performs in front of his home crowd for the last time before bringing the curtain down on a career that has included one world title, two world silver medals, two European golds and two Olympic silvers.
&ldquo;Over 20 years of training, effort and sacrifice are now behind me,&rdquo; said Malachowski. &ldquo;It was a great time, full of joy. It is now times to say goodbye. I am retiring, bidding farewell to the fans, thanking them for the invaluable support they have given me over the years.&rdquo;
Also in the field are Jamaica&rsquo;s Fedrick Dacres, Slovenia&rsquo;s Kristjan Ceh and Lithuania&rsquo;s Andrius Gudzius.
Poland has a typically strong hand in the men&rsquo;s pole vault where Piotr Lisek and Pawel Wojciechowski take on Olympic silver medallist Chris Nilsen and world champion Sam Kendricks.
The men&rsquo;s shot put will be a must-see event, reuniting the top four finishers from the Tokyo Olympics: USA&rsquo;s Ryan Crouser and Joe Kovacs along with New Zealand&rsquo;s Tom Walsh and Brazil&rsquo;s Darlan Romani.
Johannes Vetter is the star attraction in the men&rsquo;s javelin, the German looking to put his Tokyo disappointment firmly behind him as he takes on Anderson Peters of Grenada and Vitezslav Vesely of Czech Republic.
Italy&rsquo;s Gianmarco Tamberi will take star billing in the men&rsquo;s high jump where the Olympic champion takes on Olympic bronze medallist Maksim Nedasekau, while the women&rsquo;s high jump features Ukraine&rsquo;s Yuliya Levchenko and Iryna Herashchenko along with Poland&rsquo;s Kamila Licwinko.
Poland&rsquo;s Maria Andrejczyk will be a popular presence among fans, not only due to her Olympic silver in Tokyo but due to her decision to auction off that medal to raise money for a Polish toddler&rsquo;s heart surgery. Polish convenience store Zabka won the auction and returned the medal to Andrejczyk, who said that she believes &ldquo;the good we do comes back to us.&rdquo; In Silesia she will take on world champion Kelsey-Lee Barber of Australia.
Poland&rsquo;s Malwina Kopron will take on France&rsquo;s Alexandra Tavernier in the women&rsquo;s hammer, the woman she beat to the bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics, while fellow finalist Joanna Fiodorow is also in the field. Portugal&rsquo;s Auriol Dongmo is the leading entrant in the women&rsquo;s shot put.
Olympic 3000m steeplechase champion Soufiane El Bakkali of Morocco is the star attraction in the distance races, competing in a 3000m race that includes rising star Tadese Worku of Ethiopia, the world U20 champion, and Morocco&rsquo;s Abdelaati Iguider.
In the women&rsquo;s 1000m, Britain&rsquo;s Jemma Reekie should prove tough to beat if replicating the form that saw her finish fourth in the Olympic 800m final, just 0.09 outside the medals. Ethiopian duo Hirut Meshesha and Diribe Welteji should also be in contention along with Kenya&rsquo;s Mary Moraa.
The men&rsquo;s 800m features Olympic bronze medallist Patryk Dobek, but the Pole will have to be at his best to take victory in front of his home crowd given the presence of Kenya&rsquo;s Michael Saruni and Wycliffe Kinyamal, Bosnia and Herzegovina&rsquo;s Amel Tuka, USA&rsquo;s Clayton Murphy and British trio Daniel Rowden, Elliot Giles and Jake Wightman.

Olympic gold medallists Fraser-Pryce, De Grasse and Nowicki among star attractions in Silesia

Ryan Crouser, Valarie Allman and Daniel Stahl are just some of the top names confirmed so far for the Boris Hanzekovic Memorial, a Continental Tour Gold meeting, in Zagreb on 13-14 September.
Crouser returns to the Croatian capital after setting a meeting record of 22.74m there last year. As is tradition at this meeting, the men&rsquo;s shot put will be held near to Zagreb&rsquo;s City Fountains on the eve of the main competition and is named the Ivan Ivancic Memorial in honour of the former Croatian champion shot putter.
Stahl leads a men&rsquo;s discus field that contains all three medallists from the Tokyo Olympic Games. The world and Olympic champion, who set a meeting record of 68.87m last year, will be joined by fellow Swede and Olympic silver medallist Simon Pettersson and Austria&rsquo;s Lukas Weisshaidinger. Slovenian record-holder Kristjan Ceh, a 70-metre performer at his best, is also in the field.
In the women&rsquo;s discus, Allman takes on her predecessor as Olympic champion, Sandra Perkovic, who will be competing on home soil and aiming for her 10th victory at this meeting.
Grenada&rsquo;s 2012 Olympic 400m champion Kirani James, who completed a full set of Olympic medals with his bronze in Tokyo, leads a one-lap field that includes Botswana&rsquo;s Isaac Makwala and Poland&rsquo;s Dariusz Kowaluk.
&ldquo;I&rsquo;m looking forward to ending my season in Zagreb,&rdquo; said James, who is also set to compete at the Wanda Diamond League meetings in Brussels and Zurich. &ldquo;It will be my first experience at the meet and in Croatia. I&rsquo;m excited to come and try to run fast, and to challenge the meeting record of 44.94.&rdquo;

Olympic throws champions heading to Zagreb

Most of Poland&rsquo;s medal winners from the Tokyo Olympic Games will be in action at the Lotto Silesia Kamila Skolimowska Memorial, a Continental Tour Gold meeting, on 5 September.
The men&rsquo;s hammer will be one of the most keenly anticipated events of the meeting as it features Olympic champion Wojciech Nowicki and four-time world champion Pawel Fajdek, who took bronze in Tokyo.
&ldquo;It will be great to compete against Wojciech again in the Silesian Stadium,&rdquo; said Fajdek. &ldquo;I hope the spectators will come out in large numbers. We want to show once again we are in form. The Games are over and new challenges are ahead of us. We are starting a new cycle, with Paris being the ultimate goal. This special competition in Silesia this year is a stop along the way. We are in great shape and we are going to throw far.&rdquo;
World leader Maria Andrejczyk, who took silver in the women&rsquo;s javelin in Tokyo, will also be in action, so too will Olympic bronze medallists Patryk Dobek in the men&rsquo;s 800m and Malwina Kopron in the women&rsquo;s hammer.
Justyna Swiety-Ersetic, Natalia Kaczmarek and Malgorzata Holub-Kowalik &ndash; who contributed to Poland&rsquo;s Olympic triumph in the mixed 4x400m as well as their silver medal in the women&rsquo;s 4x400m &ndash; are also due to compete in Silesia, as is Kajetan Duszynski, who was part of Poland&rsquo;s victorious mixed relay squad in Tokyo.
The meeting will also mark the final competition of 2015 world discus champion Piotr Malachowski. The double Olympic silver medallist and two-time European champion, now aged 38, will hang up his throwing shoes after this competition.
&ldquo;I have given a lot of my time and health to athletics,&rdquo; explained Malachowski. &ldquo;It is time for a change. At the Memorial dedicated to Kamila, who was my good friend, I would like to bid farewell to the throwing circle and the fans. I wish to thank them for all the years they have supported me. Even during the leaner years of my career, I knew they were with me. I have also felt the presence of Kamila.
&ldquo;On 5 September I will take my last throw and symbolically hand the discus over to my son, Henryk,&rdquo; added Malachowski. &ldquo;I hope he will catch the sports bug as well, since he knows how much the sport has given to his father.&rdquo;

Poland’s Olympic stars confirmed for Silesia

There was a storm brewing in the grey skies above Bydgoszcz on Wednesday evening (30). But it was within the confines of the Zdzislaw Krzyszkowiak Stadium where the real thunder and lightning was unleashed at the Irena Szewinska Memorial meeting.
With exactly one month to go until the start of the athletics competitions at Tokyo 2020, several Olympic medal contenders flexed their competitive muscles and confirmed the threat they will pose in Japan.
The thunder came from Poland&rsquo;s hammer legends Anita Wlodarczyk and Pawel Fajdek, who both posted impressive victories to reverberate across the world to their international rivals. After a long injury lay off, Wlodarczyk looks like she is warming to the task of defending the Olympic title she first won in London 2012 and retained at Rio 2016.
She had promised a season&rsquo;s best at the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting and delivered in her first-round throw of 75.83m. She followed up with a booming 77.93m in the second round, her furthest throw since her European gold medal-winning mark in Berlin almost three years ago.
She then consolidated with 76.14m, 76.21m, 75.18m and 76.23m to complete an impressive series, all beyond anything else she has thrown this year. International teammate and world bronze medallist Malwina Kopron placed second with 75.41m, with another world bronze medallist Alexandra Tavernier of France third with a best of 73.87m.
Wlodarczyk&rsquo;s return to form could not be more timely, following DeAnna Price&rsquo;s gigantic 80.31m at the US Olympic Trials.
&ldquo;My message is that I am back and I am ready,&rdquo; said the four-time world champion, revelling in her performance in front of an adoring home crowd. &ldquo;I am happy that every single throw was above 75 metres. I hope that I will be ready in Tokyo and I will fight for gold.&rdquo;
After stating 78 metres might be her limit this year, she was also willing to entertain the possibility of a return to the 80-metre line after her confidence-boosting display.
&ldquo;After seven months training, I am ready for 78 metres,&rdquo; she said. &ldquo;I know how hard and how long I have to train to throw 80 metres, that is why I said 78, but we will see. Maybe in Tokyo? Maybe that will be the day when everything is good and I will throw 80 metres?&rdquo;

 Her international teammate and four-time world champion Fajdek was equally impressive, sending out a mighty 82.77m throw in the third round to claim a meeting record and victory ahead of fellow Pole and Olympic bronze medallist Wojciech Nowicki, who landed 80.00m in the final round to edge third-placed Mykhaylo Kokhan of Ukraine by 4cm.
&ldquo;It was really nice,&rdquo; commented the beaming Fajdek afterwards. &ldquo;It&rsquo;s my third competition in a row where I throw over 82 metres. I feel good and feel really healthy and that&rsquo;s good. We have two more competitions and then we go to Tokyo, now we have to focus only on technique and health and the body feeling good and that&rsquo;s it.&rdquo;
Lightening came in the women&rsquo;s 400m through Namibian 18-year-old Christine Mboma, who scorched to a world-leading 48.54, which &ndash; subject to ratification &ndash; will mark a world U20 record. Taking it out from the gun, she ran down Poland&rsquo;s European champion Justyna Swiety-Ersetic within the first 100m and never let up. Swiety-Ersetic came home a distant second in 51.91.

 The men&rsquo;s pole vault electrified an appreciative audience. In a field deep in Olympic, world and European medallists, recent US Olympic Trials winner Chris Nilsen prevailed, laying to rest his disappointment of his seventh-place finish at the World Athletics U20 Championships in the same stadium five years prior. In a hard-fought competition, four men went clear at 5.82m, comprising Nilsen, Asian champion Ernest Obiena of Philippines, three-times world medallist Piotr Lisek of Poland and Olympic champion Thiago Braz of Brazil.
Only Nilsen and Obiena survived at 5.87m, the latter picking up a national record. But Nilsen&rsquo;s first-time clearance at 5.92m sealed the competition, a season&rsquo;s best and a stadium record. It was a height Obiena failed in three attempts.
Nilsen was thrilled with his performance: &ldquo;I was pretty tired after travelling a couple of days ago. I wanted to keep that consistency over 5.80m and came here and got a season&rsquo;s best with 5.92m. It was a really competitive competition and that was the most fun about it. I think the feeling of having a crowd back to semi-normal and everyone jumping really well made it a great competition.&rdquo;
In the men&rsquo;s shot, New Zealand&rsquo;s 2017 world champion and 2016 Olympic bronze medallist Tom Walsh delivered a consistent series, with 21.46 enough to see off Armin Sinancevic of Serbia in second with 21.16m and Chuk Enekwechi of Nigeria in third with 21.11m.
Three Ethiopian distance runners sharpened up for the Olympics with some encouraging performances. There was a thrilling finish in the women&rsquo;s 800m with Worknesh Mesele and Diribe Welteji straining every sinew in the sprint to the line. It resulted in a meeting record of 1:59.39 for Mesele and a personal best for Welteji just seven-hundredths of a second adrift. In the men&rsquo;s 3000m steeplechase, Abrham Sime won in 8:21.41. Fellow Ethiopian Tigist Ketema won the women&rsquo;s 1500m in 4:03.90, just 0.04 shy of the meeting record. The men&rsquo;s 800m was claimed by Kenya&rsquo;s Cornelius Tuwei in 1:45.76.
In the short sprints, the blustery conditions were always going to make fast times challenging. But in in the hurdles, Olympic silver medallist Orlando Ortega of Spain continued his build up to Tokyo with a solid 13.33 (-1.1m/s) to win the men&rsquo;s race. The women&rsquo;s race was won by European champion Elvira Herman of Belarus in 13.15 (-1.8m/s) despite running in lane nine. The 100m races saw victories for Michelle-Lee Ahye of Trinidad and Tobago in 11.33 (-1.9m/s) and Gift Leotlela of South Africa in 10.24 (-1.8m/s).

Fajdek and Wlodarczyk hammer home Olympic intent in Bydgoszcz

With exactly one month to go until the first athletics events of the Tokyo 2020 Games, Olympic countdown will be well and truly on for the third edition of the Irena Szewińska Memorial in Bydgoszcz on Wednesday 30 June.
Of course, there will be a glittering array of international medallists and established stars on the track at the meeting paying tribute to one of Poland&rsquo;s finest ever sprinters. But it is on the infield where the biggest markers for next month&rsquo;s Games may well be laid, where organisers behind this World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting have laid on a field of dreams for the returning crowds.
Look no further than the men&rsquo;s hammer where four-time world champion Pawel Fajdek and Olympic bronze and European gold medallist Wojciech Nowicki will lead the home challenge. Following the recent red hot form from Rudy Winkler, who set a new North American record of 82.71m at the US Olympic trials, the duo will be looking to send a message to their Olympic rival. World silver medallist Valeriy Pronkin, Brazil&rsquo;s Diego Del Real and Ukrainian youngster Kokhan Mykhaylo add more spice to an already tasty brew.
Not to be outdone, the women&rsquo;s hammer also looks like a clash to savour, starring two domestic goddesses. Fresh from winning last weekend&rsquo;s Polish Championships in Poznan, 2017 world bronze medallist Malwina Kopron should start as marginal favourite over event legend Anita Wlodarczyk off the back of injury and surgery. But the double Olympic champion and quadruple world champion is a resolute competitor, and her fires may have been ignited after seeing that USA&rsquo;s Deanna Price became the second woman ever to throw beyond 80 metres at the US Olympic Trials last week.

 The men&rsquo;s shot put promises more fireworks. Home hope Michal Haratyk took silver at the European Indoor Championships in nearby Torun earlier this year, but he will face a huge test against New Zealand&rsquo;s 2017 world champion and Olympic bronze medallist Tom Walsh.
Staying in the field, USA&rsquo;s Chris Nilsen is venturing outside his home country to compete overseas for the first time this outdoor season. Fresh from winning the US Trials with 5.90m, he faces up to some stern international opposition, including home favourites Piotr Lisek and Pawel Wojciechowski. Lisek is a three-time World Championship medallist, while 2011 world champion Wojciechowski is competing in his hometown.
Olympic champion Thiago Braz will be seeking a return to his gold medal winning form of five years ago and Asian champion Ernest Obiena of the Philippines brings further international flavour to a strong field. Braz set a season&rsquo;s best of 5.80m in Leverkusen last weekend, tying with Obiena.
On the track, there will be some intrigue around the women&rsquo;s 400m, an event in which Poland has excelled in recent years. European champion Justyna Swiety-Ersetic spearheads the home hopes, but in Namibian youngster Christine Mboma she faces an athlete in searing form. The 18-year-old has clocked 49.22 over a single lap this season.
In the distance races, there will be much interest in the first outdoor race of the season for world silver medallist Lamecha Girma in the men&rsquo;s 3000m steeplechase. The Ethiopian was in fine form during the indoor season earlier this year, clocking PBs of 3:35.60 for 1500m and 7:27.98 for 3000m. Compatriot Chala Beyo, the 2016 African champion, could be Girma&rsquo;s toughest opponent.

 There will also be huge sentimental support for Adam Kszczot in the men&rsquo;s 800m as he tries to rekindle the form that has twice taken him to World Championships silver and World Indoor gold. Kenya&rsquo;s Cornelius Tuwei, who won in Turku at the start of the month, and Britain&rsquo;s Jamie Webb have both been knocking on the door of 1:44 this year and will start as the favourites.
Another decorated home favourite features in the women&rsquo;s 800m with European indoor silver medallist Joanna Jozwik in the line-up. Her opposition includes Tokyo-bound Ethiopian Werknesh Mesele.
In the women&rsquo;s 1500m Morocco&rsquo;s Rababe Arafi will be looking to build on her second-place finish at the Wanda Diamond League meeting in Gateshead with another solid outing. Ethiopia&rsquo;s Tigist Ketema and 2013 world 5000m silver medallist Mercy Cherono of Kenya will also toe the start line.
In the 100m, experienced US sprinter Michael Rodgers will likely be to the fore in the men&rsquo;s event, as will Michelle-Lee Ahye of Trinidad and Tobago in the women&rsquo;s race. Over the barriers, Olympic silver medallist Orlando Ortega of Spain and European champion Elvira Herman of Belarus head the line ups in the men&rsquo;s and women&rsquo;s sprint hurdles respectively.

Poland’s finest ready to take on international stars in Bydgoszcz

Global champions Dalilah Muhammad, Shaunae Miller-Uibo and Jacob Kilpimo are among the latest stars who have confirmed their participation at the Gyulai Memorial &ndash; a World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting &ndash; in Szekesfehervar on 6 July.
Muhammad, who will be in action at the US Olympic Trials later this week, is the world and Olympic champion at 400m hurdles and the world record-holder. Having finished seventh in 2015, third in 2017 and second in 2018, Muhammad will be seeking her first Szekesfehervar victory when she takes on US compatriot Shamier Little, Dutch record-holder Femke Bol, Jamaica&rsquo;s Janieve Russell, USA&rsquo;s Ashley Spencer, Switzerland&rsquo;s Lea Sprunger and Ukraine&rsquo;s Anna Ryzhykova.
Olympic 400m champion Miller-Uibo, who holds the Gyulai Memorial meeting records at 200m and 400m, will contest the shorter of those events this time. The Bahamian sprinter will line up against two-time world champion Dafne Schippers and world bronze medallist Mujinga Kambundji.
World indoor champion and recently crowned US Trials winner Kendra Harrison will also return to Szekesfehervar. She set a Hungarian all-comers&rsquo; record of 12.28 there in 2017 and won again in 2019. The world silver medallist will face world leader Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, USA's Sharika Nelvis, Bahamian record-holder Devynne Charlton and European champion Elvira Herman.
The men&rsquo;s sprint hurdles is similarly competitive and features Olympic silver medallist Orlando Ortega, world bronze medallist Pascal Martinot-Lagarde, African record-holder Antonio Alkana and US duo Devon Allen and Daniel Roberts.
Elsewhere in the sprints, Tokyo-bound Wadeline Jonathas will take on European champion Justyna Swiety-Ersetic and USA&rsquo;s Lynna Irby over 400m, while world and Olympic medallist Blessing Okagbare will contest the 100m.
World half marathon champion Jacob Kiplimo will step down in distance to the 3000m &ndash; an event in which he holds the Ugandan record of 7:26.64 &ndash; to race against two-time world 5000m champion Muktar Edris, Telahun Haile Bekele, Ethiopian 10,000m champion Berihu Aregawi and Kenya&rsquo;s 2015 world U18 champion Richard Yator.
The field events in Szekesfehervar will feature several global medallists, none more so than the men&rsquo;s discus.
Daniel Stahl will be joined by the two men who preceded him as world champion &ndash; Lithuania&rsquo;s Andrius Gudzius and Poland&rsquo;s Piotr Malachowski &ndash; as well as Olympic champion Christoph Harting. World silver medallist Fedrick Dacres and Sweden&rsquo;s Simon Pettersson are also in the high-quality line-up.
In the men&rsquo;s hammer, four-time world champion Pawel Fajdek will take on arch rival Wojciech Nowicki, the European champion, along with world bronze medallist Bence Halasz and Ukraine&rsquo;s Mykhaylo Kokhan.
Two-time Olympic champion and world record-holder Anita Wlodarczyk, continuing her comeback, stars in the women&rsquo;s hammer. She&rsquo;ll face 2017 world bronze medallist Malwina Kopron and 2015 world bronze medallist Alexandra Tavernier.
World leader Maria Andrejczyk, who moved to second on the world all-time list earlier this year, will compete in the javelin alongside Germany&rsquo;s European champion Christin Hussong, 2016 European champion Tatsiana Khaladovich and European bronze medallist Liveta Jasiunaite.
Three members of the exclusive 18-metre club will clash in the men&rsquo;s triple jump as world indoor record-holder Hugues Fabrice Zango takes on world indoor champion Will Claye and Cuba&rsquo;s Pedro Pablo Pichardo.
In other events, world bronze medallist Ferguson Rotich, Wesley Vazquez and Elliot Giles are confirmed for the men&rsquo;s 800m; world silver and bronze medallists Mikhail Akimenko and Ilya Ivanyuk take on 2016 world indoor champion Gianmarco Tamberi, Ukraine&rsquo;s Andriy Protsenko, Australian record-holder Brandon Starc and 2007 world champion Donald Thomas in the high jump; and the men&rsquo;s shot put line-up includes European indoor shot put champion Tomas Stanek, 2016 world indoor bronze medallist Filip Mihaljevic, Poland&rsquo;s Konrad Bukowiecki and Nigeria&rsquo;s Chukwuebuka Enekwechi.

Global champions Dalilah Muhammad, Shaunae Miller-Uibo and Jacob Kilpimo are among the latest stars who have confirmed their participation at the Gyulai Memorial – a World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting – in Szekesfehervar on 6 July.

In a country that loves its throwing, Marcin Krukowski and Wojciech Nowicki put on an exhibition for local fans on the second evening of the Paavo Nurmi Games &ndash; a World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting &ndash; in Turku, Finland, on Tuesday (8).
In cool, damp conditions, Krukowski signalled his intent in the second round of the men&rsquo;s javelin with a throw that looked to sail beyond 90 metres, but it was ruled a foul after his hand slipped over the line as he landed on the rain-soaked track.
But minutes later he launched the spear 89.55m to add almost a metre and a half to his Polish record, enough to hand him a comfortable win over 2012 Olympic champion Keshorn Walcott (82.84m) of Trinidad and Tobago and Rocco van Rooyen of South Africa (82.55m), along with moving him to 22nd on the world all-time list.

 &ldquo;I can throw further, I can add some metres,&rdquo; said Krukowsi. &ldquo;I didn&rsquo;t feel I hit the javelin hard, it was a smooth and nice throw. Moving forward it&rsquo;s about not doing stupid things. I got a small injury in my knee so I lost some timing recently but now I&rsquo;m getting it back and I feel strong and confident.&rdquo;
His goal for the Tokyo Games?
&ldquo;A gold medal,&rdquo; said Krukowski. &ldquo;It&rsquo;s the Olympics and anything can happen.&rdquo;
His Polish compatriot Nowicki took an impressive win in the men&rsquo;s hammer with a series of outstanding consistency, going beyond 79 metres on five of his six throws. His biggest, 80.77m, was a season&rsquo;s best that came in the fifth round and gave him the win by more than a metre from France&rsquo;s Quentin Bigot, who threw a PB of 79.70m.
&ldquo;I felt good, the weather was good, the circle was good so I tried to make a good result,&rdquo; said Nowicki, who will remain in Finland ahead of his next competition in Espoo. &ldquo;For me this circle is a little better when it&rsquo;s wet. Today I didn&rsquo;t imagine I would throw 80 metres; when I woke up I felt 78, 79, but I was happy and I hope to do the same at the Olympic Games.&rdquo;

Four-time world champion Pawel Fajdek had a night he will be keen to forget, fouling his first five attempts before salvaging third place in the last round with a throw of 78.29m. Sweden&rsquo;s Ragnar Carlsson set a PB of 76.87m in fourth.
Finland&rsquo;s Senni Salminen drew the biggest cheer of the night when soaring out to a national record of 14.51m (0.4m/s) in the third round of the women&rsquo;s triple jump, also smashing the meeting record by 22 centimetres in the process and adding 29 centimetres to her previous best. That handed her victory by a wide margin over Jamaica&rsquo;s Kimberly Williams (14.29m), with Finland&rsquo;s Kristina Makela third with 14.26m.
&ldquo;I knew I was in good shape but 14.51, it&rsquo;s big,&rdquo; said Salminen, who fell to her knees in ecstatic celebration once she saw the distance. &ldquo;I was about to cry during my last jump when I got a standing ovation. The crowd was amazing.&rdquo;

 Finland very nearly had another home win in the final race of the evening as Annimari Korte took second in the 100m hurdles in 12.91, edged by Hungary&rsquo;s Luca Kozak who clocked 12.90 (0.7 m/s). Belgium&rsquo;s Anne Zagre was third with 13.13.
There was an impressive home win in the men&rsquo;s 3000m steeplechase as Finland&rsquo;s Topi Raitanen came from behind over the last barrier to take victory in 8:19.57, just a second outside the meeting record, ahead of Denmark&rsquo;s Ole Hesselbjerg (8:20.42). Sweden&rsquo;s Emil Blomberg was third in 8:21.38.
Kenya&rsquo;s Cornelius Tuwei outkicked compatriot Ferguson Cheruiyot Rotich to win the men&rsquo;s 800m, 1:44.42 to 1:44.59, with Poland&rsquo;s Mateusz Borkowski third in a PB of 1:44.85.
Poland&rsquo;s Malwina Kopron coped with conditions best in the women&rsquo;s hammer, with a thunderstorm raging during the competition and a soaked circle proving tricky for throwers. She opened with a season&rsquo;s best of 75.40m which proved more than enough for victory, a mark she was unable to improve in subsequent attempts. France&rsquo;s Alexandra Tavernier was next best with 72.80m with two-time Olympic champion Anita Wlodarczyk third with 72.42m.
France&rsquo;s Mouhamadou Fall rose to the occasion in the men&rsquo;s 100m, getting the better of USA&rsquo;s Mike Rodgers to win in 10.26 (0.1m/s), with Rodgers clocking 10.33 and Switzerland&rsquo;s Silvan Wicki third in 10.36.
Britain&rsquo;s Imani Lansiquot came from behind to edge victory in the women&rsquo;s 100m, overtaking Finland&rsquo;s Lotta Kemppinen to win in 11.40 (-0.7m/s) to 11.41. Italy&rsquo;s Vittoria Fontana was third in 11.46.
There was another British win in the 110m hurdles as David King set a PB of 13.37 to take victory, with Poland&rsquo;s Damian Czykier next best in 13.50 and Norway&rsquo;s Vladimir Vukicevic third in 13.59.
&ldquo;I haven&rsquo;t run quicker than 13.50 since 2017 and I&rsquo;m so happy,&rdquo; said King. &ldquo;In Hengelo [where King clocked 13.57] I had some good signs but tonight I started well and finished well, it all came together.&rdquo;
Ukraine&rsquo;s Vladyslav Mazur took the men&rsquo;s long jump with a best of 7.90m, with Finland&rsquo;s Kristian Pulli second with 7.82m and Colombia&rsquo;s Arnovis Dalmero third with 7.75m. In the women&rsquo;s pole vault Elina Lampela gave the 2,500-strong crowd reason for celebration as she cleared 4.41m to take victory ahead of Fanny Smets of Belgium (4.31m) and Switzerland&rsquo;s Andrina Hodel (4.31m).
Kamila Licwinko of Poland and Australia&rsquo;s Eleanor Patterson took a joint-win in the women&rsquo;s high jump, which was staged during a torrential downpour. Licwinko had the better record at 1.88m and Patterson the better record at 1.85m, and they were equal at other heights up to and including their best clearance of 1.93m. Because they had the same number of overall failures, they shared the spoils, with Ukraine&rsquo;s Yuliya Levchenko third with a season&rsquo;s best of 1.91m. 
<h3>Barr breaks meeting record, Stahl and Hussong dominate throws</h3>
Ireland&rsquo;s Thomas Barr and Sweden&rsquo;s Daniel Stahl produced the standout performances on the first evening of action in Turku.
Barr clocked 48.39 to edge a thrilling race with Estonia&rsquo;s Rasmus Magi in the 400m hurdles, the Irishman clocking his fastest ever time outside a championship and his quickest since winning a European bronze medal in 2018. Magi led until the final barrier before being passed by Barr on the run to the line, but the Estonian was rewarded with a big season&rsquo;s best of 48.58, with Dutch athlete Nick Smidt third in 49.64.

&ldquo;I wasn&rsquo;t expecting that,&rdquo; said Barr after taking more than a second off the meeting record. &ldquo;I thought if everything went right, 48-mid was where I was at but I&rsquo;ve felt my rhythm come back quickly and I felt really strong over the last few hurdles. It was a brilliant race.&rdquo;
Barr finished fourth in the 2016 Olympic final and he&rsquo;s hopeful he can again challenge for a podium position in Tokyo.
&ldquo;Normally I&rsquo;m still only warming up at this time of year,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;Considering how compressed this season was, I didn&rsquo;t have much room for error so I&rsquo;m back on the horse just in time. Since Rio the 400m hurdles has gotten a lot harder, but in an Olympic final, or in any major championship final, anything can happen, so if I&rsquo;m there or thereabouts, I&rsquo;ll be ready to mop up the spillage.&rdquo;
Stahl proved a class apart in the men&rsquo;s discus, the world champion &ndash; who spent his summers in Turku through his childhood &ndash; giving himself more happy memories of the Finnish town when launching a throw of 68.11m to in the fourth round, good enough for a comfortable win over rival Andrius Gudzius of Lithuania (66.88m) and Lukas Weisshaidinger (66.77m).
&ldquo;It was pretty good, I&rsquo;m pretty happy with the 68-metre throw,&rdquo; said Stahl. &ldquo;I was a little bit tight and I felt a little slow in the first three rounds but then I hit it better.&rdquo;

Stahl has a long list of competitions in the weeks before the Olympics in Tokyo, where he hopes to emulate his success at the 2019 World Championships.
&ldquo;I just need to compete more and get that feeling, there&rsquo;s nothing better,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;I&rsquo;m really excited now about Tokyo. Everyone is going to get the vaccine and I&rsquo;m going to get my second one in a couple of weeks so it feels great. Since I started in 2011 my coach and I said we&rsquo;d target the Olympic Games in 2020 and now that it&rsquo;s going ahead in 2021, I&rsquo;m really, really happy about it.&rdquo;
Christin Hussong continued her fine run of form in the women&rsquo;s javelin, the German putting the competition to bed in the second round with a meeting record of 66.63m. That was enough to hand her victory with ease, with Latvia&rsquo;s Lina Muze next best with 61.34m and Madara Palameika third with 60.04m.

&ldquo;It was a really good throw for me,&rdquo; said Hussong. &ldquo;I've thrown over 66 metres five times now (this year) and I think my technique is better than last year &ndash; that's the reason why. I'm really happy with that.&rdquo;
Asked about her hopes for the Tokyo Olympics, Hussong said she has a straightforward mission. &ldquo;My goal is a medal. Which medal, we'll have to see. There are a lot of girls throwing over 65, 66.&rdquo;
Two more meeting records fell on the first day of action in Turku.
Bahrain&rsquo;s Winfed Yavi was a clear winner of the women&rsquo;s 3000m steeplechase, coasting to victory in a meeting record of 9:17.55 ahead of Ireland&rsquo;s Michelle Finn, who smashed her PB by nine seconds to run an automatic Olympic qualifier of 9:29.25. Kenya&rsquo;s Fancy Cherono took third with 9:33.49.
Kenya&rsquo;s Mary Moraa was a class apart in the women&rsquo;s 800m, the 21-year-old kicking to victory in 1:59.95, the first sub-two-minute clocking of her career and the first witnessed in Turku.
&ldquo;My aim was to run under two minutes but I was not expecting it,&rdquo; said Moraa. &ldquo;We have national trials next week and I&rsquo;m confident, I&rsquo;m very happy and strong and God-willing, I will make the Olympics.&rdquo;
In the men&rsquo;s triple jump Portugal&rsquo;s Tiago Pereira saved his best for last, jumping 16.91m to take the win in his final attempt, which demoted Tobia Bocchi to second, though the Italian was delighted to set a PB of 16.73m. Sweden&rsquo;s Jesper Hellstrom took third with 16.40m.
Hungary&rsquo;s Anasztazia Nguyen edged victory in the women&rsquo;s long jump, her third-round effort of 6.51m giving her the win ahead of Britain&rsquo;s Abigail Irozuru (6.50m), with Finland&rsquo;s Maria Huntington third with 6.32m.

Krukowski and Nowicki secure Polish throws double in Turku

Back in the stadium where she set her European 10,000m record of 29:36.67 last October, Sifan Hassan continued to make history by smashing the world record with a time of 29:06.82* in Hengelo on Sunday (6).
Racing at the FBK Games &ndash; a World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting &ndash; and with the world record always in her sights, the double world champion took more than 10 seconds off the 29:17.45 global mark for the 25-lap event which had been set by Ethiopia's Almaz Ayana at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.
On world record pace from the start, the Dutch star began behind pacemakers Diane van Es and Jackline Rotich, with Van Es taking the leaders through 1000m in 2:56.12.
Rotich was then to the fore, reaching 2000m in 8:47.91, but soon after Hassan was clearly wanting to push the pace. With 19 laps to go she had passed the pacemaker and was following the Wavelight technology, steadily ticking off the laps.
She went through halfway in 14:38.75 and continued to get quicker, running a 2:45 final kilometre and lapping the entire field which included seven other athletes who would go on to achieve the Olympic qualifying time of 31:25.00. Crossing the finish line with 29:06.82 on the clock, Hassan raised her hands to the air and then sank to the track in delight.

 &ldquo;Wow, to run this world record here today in Hengelo is something I could only dream of,&rdquo; she said. &ldquo;It's the perfect confirmation of the hard work we've put in getting ready for Tokyo. I am so happy to share this record in front of my Dutch fans. I am so happy!&rdquo;
Hassan adds this latest mark to her world records in the mile, one hour event and road 5km.
In addition, she also holds European records in the 1500m, 3000m, 5000m and half-marathon.
More than a minute and a half behind her were Kenya&rsquo;s Irine Jepchumba Kimais and Daisy Cherotich, with Kimais narrowly claiming the runner-up spot &ndash; 30:37.24 to 30:37.31. Their compatriot Joyce Chepkemoi Tele was fourth in 30:59.01.
<h3>Duplantis soars</h3>
The women&rsquo;s 10,000m had been the first track event on the main programme and it ensured that celebrations for the 40th&nbsp;FBK Games started in superb style. Innovations at the event &ndash; which welcomed 1500 fans to the Fanny Blankers-Koen Stadion &ndash; included a live &lsquo;second screen&rsquo; broadcast and a virtual audience connected by Zoom, and fans were treated to even more record-breaking performances as the meeting went on.
World pole vault record-holder Mondo Duplantis had been looking to return to winning ways after a rare loss at the Wanda Diamond League meeting in Gateshead but he didn&rsquo;t stop at just securing victory, eventually clearing a world-leading height of 6.10m and attempting a world record of 6.19m.
Although the world record was not to be this time, the 21-year-old&rsquo;s third-time clearance of 6.10m &ndash; a height only he and Sergey Bubka have ever achieved outdoors &ndash; was hugely impressive. It also added 19 centimetres to the two-year-old meeting record which had been set by two-time world champion Sam Kendricks, who handed Duplantis that defeat in Gateshead.

 &ldquo;Since Sam wasn&rsquo;t going to be here and I was just coming off a loss to him, that was my way to get back at him, to take his meeting record away from him,&rdquo; Duplantis said with a smile. &ldquo;I haven&rsquo;t checked my phone yet but I&rsquo;d imagine I&rsquo;ll have a text from him.&rdquo;
On his Hengelo debut performance, he added: &ldquo;I felt really motivated coming to this meet, I haven&rsquo;t felt like that in a pretty long time &ndash; that I really had something to prove. Today I wanted to show everybody that I can still jump really high.&rdquo;
Sweden&rsquo;s Duplantis had opened his competition by easing over 5.50m first time and he also achieved 5.74m and 5.86m on his initial attempts. The competition was won at that point but the world silver medallist also managed a world-leading 5.92m on his first try and then soared over six metres on his second attempt.
Asian champion Ernest Obiena and Dutch record-holder Menno Vloon finished second and third respectively, with both athletes having cleared a best of 5.80m.
<h3>More meeting records fall</h3>
World leader Jasmine Camacho-Quinn now has three of the four fastest 100m hurdles times in the world so far this season as she followed her world lead of 12.32 set in Florida in April with a dominant 12.44 meeting record in Hengelo.
Starting fast, she powered away in the second half of the race to finish clear ahead of Poland&rsquo;s Pia Skrzyszowska, who ran a PB of 12.80.
The time was a pleasant surprise for Puerto Rico's Camacho-Quinn, who hadn&rsquo;t expected to run so fast having felt tired after arriving in Hengelo the day before.
&ldquo;I just wanted to get a good race in,&rdquo; said the two-time NCAA champion, who moved to equal seventh on the world all-time list with her run in Gainesville earlier this year.

 The women&rsquo;s 100m delivered another dominant performance, with Britain&rsquo;s Dina Asher-Smith achieving her first sub-11.00 time of the season after a similarly strong run two weeks earlier in a very wet and windy Gateshead.
Conditions were more favourable this time and the world 200m champion clocked 10.92 (0.8m/s) to win ahead of Nigeria&rsquo;s world and Olympic medallist Blessing Okagbare (11.02) and improve the meeting record of 10.94 which had been set by two-time world 200m gold medallist Dafne Schippers in 2015.
&ldquo;It was nice to run without a gale-force wind!&rdquo; said Asher-Smith. &ldquo;I&rsquo;m happy to have put together a good race and won today. I was hoping to go a little bit faster, but it will come when it wants to come.&rdquo;
Home favourite Schippers was also racing and clocked 11.15 in fourth after winning an earlier race in 11.22. Britain&rsquo;s Daryll Neita ran a PB of 11.04 in third.
The meeting record also fell in the women&rsquo;s 400m hurdles, with Femke Bol securing victory on home soil. The 21-year-old European indoor 400m champion ran 54.33 in what was her first 400m hurdles race of the season, holding off Ukraine&rsquo;s European silver medallist Anna Ryzhykova (54.59).
Jamaica&rsquo;s Olympic champion Omar McLeod came close to Grant Holloway&rsquo;s world&nbsp;110m hurdles lead of 13.07, clocking 13.08 (1.7m/s) to win ahead of the USA&rsquo;s Devon Allen (13.32), while the men&rsquo;s 400m hurdles was won by Qatar&rsquo;s world bronze medallist Abderrahman Samba in 48.56.
<h3>Wightman kicks to victory&nbsp;</h3>
A well-judged race by Britain&rsquo;s Jake Wightman led to an impressive 1500m victory as the European and Commonwealth bronze medallist kicked off the final bend and looked strong down the home straight to win by almost a second. His time was 3:34.67 ahead of Kenya&rsquo;s Abel Kipsang with 3:35.63.
There was also a British winner in the women&rsquo;s 800m as Jemma Reekie front-ran her way to lead a GB top three, clocking 2:00.77 ahead of her training partner Laura Muir with 2:00.95 and Ellie Baker with 2:01.02. Uganda&rsquo;s world champion Halimah Nakaayi was sixth in 2:02.52 in her first race since last August.
The men&rsquo;s 800m was won by Poland&rsquo;s European indoor silver medallist Mateusz Borkowski in 1:47.02 from France&rsquo;s Benjamin Robert (1:47.15) and Britain&rsquo;s Elliot Giles, who ran 1:47.22 in his first 800m race since his 1:43.63 indoors in Torun.
Back racing his specialist distance after recent 9.91 and 9.96 100m runs, the USA&rsquo;s Fred Kerley won the men&rsquo;s 400m in 44.74 ahead of Dutch duo Jochem Dobber (45.51) and Liemarvin Bonevacia (45.77). Victory in the women&rsquo;s race was claimed by Belgium&rsquo;s Cynthia Bolingo in 51.16 ahead of Britain&rsquo;s Laviai Nielsen (51.44) and the Netherlands&rsquo; Lieke Klaver (51.46). Botswana&rsquo;s Isaac Makwala ran 20.37 (0.6m/s) to win the 200m ahead of Italy&rsquo;s Eseosa Desalu (20.63).&nbsp;
<h3>Perez maintains win streak</h3>
Cuba&rsquo;s world discus champion Yaime Perez continued her unbeaten record this year with a 65.91m throw which secured her the win by 11 centimetres ahead of Croatia&rsquo;s two-time Olympic champion Sandra Perkovic. Portugal&rsquo;s Liliana Ca was third with a throw of 65.07m.
A close men&rsquo;s long jump contest was won by France&rsquo;s Augustin Bey as he leapt a PB of 8.16m, with South Africa&rsquo;s Ruswahl Samaai second thanks to a leap of 8.10m. Australia&rsquo;s Chris Mitrevski was third (8.04m) and Italy&rsquo;s Filippo Randazzo fourth (8.01m). European indoor champion Maksim Nedasekau of Belarus won the high jump thanks to a 2.24m clearance.

All eyes will be on the hammer throw circle in Turku, Finland, this week as two titans of the event &ndash; Anita Wlodarczyk and Pawel Fajdek &ndash; fine-tune their Olympic preparations at the Paavo Nurmi Games, a World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting.
The two-day meeting kicks off on Monday (7) but the Polish duo will be in action on Tuesday (8), pitting their talent against quality opposition. For Wlodarczyk it&rsquo;s a chance to re-establish her credentials as the weeks tick by to the Tokyo Games, where the 35-year-old will try to win her third successive Olympic title.
Wlodarczyk&rsquo;s best this year is the 73.87m she threw in Antalya last month and she was beaten on her three most recent outings, twice by compatriot Malwina Kapron, who she takes on again in Turku. Also in the field is their fellow Pole Joanna Fiodorow, along with France&rsquo;s Alexandra Tavernier and Slovakia&rsquo;s Martina Hrasnova, who have all gone beyond 75 metres at their best.
Fajdek will be the star attraction in the men&rsquo;s hammer, the four-time world champion returning to the site where he set the meeting record with a whopping 82.40m in 2017. Having been eliminated in qualifying at the 2016 Olympics, the 31-year-old appears well on his way to making amends this year, unleashing a world lead of 82.98m at the European Team Championships in Chorzow, Poland, last weekend.
In Turku he faces the three men he shared the podium with at the 2019 World Athletics Championships in Doha: Quentin Bigot of France, Wojciech Nowicki of Poland and Bence Halasz of Hungary. Nowicki is the best of that trio this year with his 79.54m throw in Andujar, Spain, last month.
Daniel Stahl of Sweden should prove tough to beat in the men&rsquo;s discus. The world champion threw a world lead of 69.71m in Helsingborg last month, though his compatriot Simon Pettersson should give him plenty to think about in Turku. He beat Stahl recently in Vaxjo, Sweden, throwing a PB of 69.48m. Also in the field are 2015 world champion Piotr Malachowski of Poland, 2017 world champion Andrius Gudzius of Lithuania and 2019 world bronze medallist Lukas Weisshaidinger of Austria.

 World champion Anderson Peters of Grenada will be in action in the men&rsquo;s javelin, a field also featuring 2012 Olympic champion Keshorn Walcott of Trinidad and Tobago.
In the women&rsquo;s javelin Germany&rsquo;s Christin Hussong is the leading entrant, the European champion arriving in fine form after a PB of 69.19m at the European Team Championships.
Ukraine&rsquo;s Yuliya Levchenko will be looking to rekindle some strong form in the women&rsquo;s high jump, the 2017 world silver medallist well below her best of 2.02m in her three outdoor competitions this year, her highest clearance of 1.89m coming last week in Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine. Also in the field is Bulgaria&rsquo;s Mirela Demireva, the Olympic silver medallist, along with Poland&rsquo;s Kamila Licwinko and Sweden&rsquo;s Erika Kinsey.
Finland's&nbsp;Elina Lampela is the leading entrant in the women&rsquo;s pole vault with a best of 4.53m this year, while British duo Shara Proctor and Abigail Irozuru take top billing in the women&rsquo;s long jump. Jamaica&rsquo;s Kimberly Williams will take on Bulgaria&rsquo;s Gabriela Petrova in the women&rsquo;s triple jump, the former arriving off the back of a 14.69m PB in Doha recently.
Britain&rsquo;s Ben Williams and Finland&rsquo;s Simo Lipsanen are the two athletes with 17-metre jumps to their name in the men&rsquo;s triple jump, though Portugal&rsquo;s Tiago Pereira is approaching that with a 16.94m leap last year. Five eight-metre jumpers are set to take to the runway for the men&rsquo;s long jump, led by Finland&rsquo;s Kristian Pulli who has a best of 8.27m.

 On the track, Kenya&rsquo;s Ferguson Rotich headlines a decent field in the men&rsquo;s 800m, the world bronze medallist taking on compatriot Cornelius Tuwei and Britain&rsquo;s Jamie Webb. Kenyans should also be to the fore in the men&rsquo;s 3000m steeplechase where Barnabas Kipyego and Nicholas Bett are the quickest in the field on paper.
Bahrain&rsquo;s Winfred Yavi looks a class apart ahead of the women&rsquo;s 3000m steeplechase, the 21-year-old having recently set a PB of 9:02.64 to finish third at the Wanda Diamond League meeting in Doha.
Ireland&rsquo;s Thomas Barr will start as favourite in the men&rsquo;s 400m hurdles, the Olympic finalist arriving off the back of a win in Gothenburg last week where he clocked 49.02. Estonia&rsquo;s Rasmus Magi and Dutch athlete Nick Smidt should be his biggest challengers.
USA&rsquo;s Mike Rodgers is the star attraction in the men&rsquo;s 100m, where he faces Britain&rsquo;s Ojie Edoburun. Finland&rsquo;s Elmo Lakka is the quickest this year in the men&rsquo;s 110m hurdles with the 13.31 Nordic record he clocked in Jyvaskyla last week.
British trio Imani Lansiquot, Asha Philip and Kristal Awuah race the women&rsquo;s 100m, with Lansiquot the quickest of them this year with 11.27.
Sweden&rsquo;s Lovisa Lindh, who has dipped below two minutes this year, should be in contention in the women's 800m along with Ireland&rsquo;s Nadia Power and Benin&rsquo;s Noelie Yarigo.
Hungary&rsquo;s Luca Kozak, Norway&rsquo;s Isabelle Pedersen and local favourite Annimari Korte should be the biggest challengers in the women's 100m hurdles.
Two and a half thousand spectators will be able to attend each session of this year&rsquo;s meeting.

All eyes will be on the hammer throw circle in Turku, Finland, this week as two titans of the event – Anita Wlodarczyk and Pawel Fajdek – fine-tune their Olympic preparations at the Paavo Nurmi Games, a World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting.

Wlodarczyk and Fajdek to tune up for Tokyo in Turku

Five world champions, four Olympic gold medallists and two world record-holders are set to compete at the FBK Games &ndash; a World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting &ndash; in Hengelo on Sunday (6).
Pole vault world record-holder Mondo Duplantis will be raring to go after his 23-meet winning streak came to an end at the Wanda Diamond League meeting in Gateshead at the end of last month. Battling tough conditions, the 21-year-old from Sweden gave the bar a slight nudge on his final attempt at 5.80m &ndash; what would have been a winning height &ndash; and it came down, meaning victory went to two-time world champion Sam Kendricks.
Kendricks won&rsquo;t be in Hengelo, but Duplantis will have one eye on the US vaulter&rsquo;s meeting record and Dutch all-comers&rsquo; record of 5.91m.
Olympic champion Thiago Braz and Dutch vaulter Menno Vloon, who set a national indoor record of 5.96m earlier this year, are also in the line-up.
Double world champion Sifan Hassan will return to the track on which she set a European 10,000m record of 29:36.67 last year and will again contest the 25-lap discpline. The Dutch distance runner has tested her form over a range of distances this year, clocking 8:33.62 for 3000m indoors, followed by 14:35.34 for 5000m and 2:01.54 for 800m outdoors.

Kenya&rsquo;s Daisy Cherotich, New Zealand&rsquo;s world finalist Camille Buscomb and Canada&rsquo;s Andrea Seccafien will all be hoping to emerge from the race with lifetime bests.
World 800m champion Halimah Nakaayi will open her 2021 campaign over her specialist distance. The Ugandan middle-distance runner takes on a quartet of Britons &ndash; Laura Muir, Kelly Hodgkinson, Jemma Reekie and Adelle Tracey &ndash; as well as Norway&rsquo;s Hedda Hynne and France&rsquo;s Renelle Lamote.
In the men&rsquo;s event, indoor sensation Elliot Giles lines up for his first outdoor 800m of the year, taking on fellow Brits Max Burgin &ndash; who set a European U20 record of 1:44.14 in Ostrava last month &ndash; and Daniel Rowden. Tony van Diepen, one of the Netherlands&rsquo; top performers at the World Athletics Relays Silesia 21, is also in the field.
Recent Montreuil winner Abel Kipsang goes in the men&rsquo;s 1500m where he&rsquo;ll take on Uganda&rsquo;s Ronald Musagala and Britain&rsquo;s sub-3:30 performer Jake Wightman.
<h3>Asher-Smith, Kerley and McLeod set to produce sprint highlights</h3>
Although she has raced there only once before, world 200m champion Dina Asher-Smith has fond memories of racing in Hengelo.
It is where, as a teenager back in 2015, she set her first senior national record over 100m, clocking 11.02. Six years on from that performance, and having bagged many more records and medals, the world 200m champion will be hoping for a sub-11-second clocking to improve on the 11.35 season&rsquo;s best she recorded when winning in Gateshead, running in heavy rain and into a -3.1m/s headwind.
Nigeria&rsquo;s world and Olympic medallist Blessing Okagbare, who has a season&rsquo;s best of 10.90, and two-time world 200m champion Dafne Schippers are also in the line-up.
World 4x400m champion Fred Kerley has so far this year produced his most impressive performances at 100m, clocking 9.91 and 9.96 in recent weeks. In Hengelo, however, he&rsquo;ll step back up to his specialist 400m discipline and will aim to improve on the 44.60 season&rsquo;s best he recorded in Doha last week.

All four hurdles races in Hengelo promise plenty of excitement.
Olympic champion Omar McLeod, racing in Europe for the first time since September 2019, leads the 110m hurdles field. The Jamaican, who has a season&rsquo;s best of 13.11, will take on European indoor champion Wilhem Belocian, who will be making his 2021 outdoor debut, and USA&rsquo;s Devon Allen.
World bronze medallist Abderrahman Samba takes on Olympic bronze medallist Yasmani Copello in the men&rsquo;s 400m hurdles, while European indoor champion Femke Bol contests the women&rsquo;s event in what will be her first outdoor race over barriers this year.
World leader Jasmine Camacho-Quinn leads the entries in the women&rsquo;s 100m hurdles and will be keen to make up for her recent appearance in Jacksonville where she was disqualified for a false start.
The women&rsquo;s discus will be a clash of three global champions as Olympic champion Sandra Perkovic faces world champion Yaime Perez and 2015 world champion Denia Caballero.

The three women were all in action in Doha last week with Perez coming out on top in a close contest. The Cuban threw 63.75m while Perkovic managed 63.60m and Caballero recorded 63.00m. Perkovic went on to win in Montreuil with a season&rsquo;s best of 66.11m, but the Croatian still trails Perez (68.99m) on this year&rsquo;s world list.
All three medallists from this year&rsquo;s European Indoor Championships &ndash; Maksim Nedasekau, Gianmarco Tamberi and Thomas Carmoy &ndash; will renew their high jump rivalry in Hengelo. Olympic champion Derek Drouin and Oceania record-holder Brandon Starc add further depth to the field.
Elsewhere, African champion Ruswahl Samaai features in the men&rsquo;s long jump, Botswana&rsquo;s Isaac Makwala leads the men&rsquo;s 200m entries and Belgian record-holder Cynthia Bolingo starts as favourite in the women&rsquo;s 400m.

Global champions and world record-holders ready to clash in Hengelo

Five-time winner Anita Wlodarczyk will return to the Istvan Gyulai Memorial, a World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting, in Szekesfehervar on 6 July.
Poland&rsquo;s two-time Olympic and four-time world hammer champion was dominant in Szekesfehervar between 2014 and 2018, before injury forced her to end her 2019 season early. The world record-holder then missed 2020 and is making a comeback this year as she targets the defence of her Olympic title in Tokyo.
Wlodarczyk is among a number of global medallists heading to Hungary, with her compatriot Piotr Malachowski &ndash; the 2015 world discus champion and two-time Olympic silver medallist &ndash; also among the athletes recently announced for the event.
They will be joined by two-time world champion Dafne Schippers of the Netherlands (200m), the USA&rsquo;s Olympic bronze medallists Ashley Spencer (400m hurdles) and Clayton Murphy (800m), Canada&rsquo;s Olympic and world 4x100m medallist Aaron Brown (200m), the USA&rsquo;s world 4x400m champion Wadeline Jonathas (400m), Jamaica&rsquo;s Olympic and world 4x400m medallist Stephenie Ann McPherson (400m) and the USA&rsquo;s world 4x100m champion Mike Rodgers (100m).
Australia&rsquo;s Commonwealth champion Brandon Starc and Ukraine&rsquo;s 2014 world indoor medallist Andriy Protsenko have been announced for the high jump, while Poland&rsquo;s multiple world 4x400m medallist Justyna Swiety-Ersetic will race the 400m and her compatriot Wojciech Nowicki &ndash; the multiple Olympic and world medallist &ndash; contests the hammer.
Azerbaijan&rsquo;s 2019 European indoor champion Nazim Babayev contests the triple jump, Estonia&rsquo;s 2014 European silver medallist Rasmus Magi is set for the 400m hurdles and the Netherlands&rsquo; two-time European indoor champion Nadine Visser will race the 100m hurdles.
Hungarian 800m champion Balazs Vindics, long jumper Diana Lesti and hammer thrower Daniel Raba will be among the athletes competing on home soil.
Among those previously announced for the meeting are 2017 world discus champion Andrius Gudzius, world 200m bronze medallist Mujinga Kambundji and 2007 world high jump champion Donald Thomas.

Wlodarczyk among global medallists set for Szekesfehervar

Meeting records fell in all four hurdles races at the adidas Boost Boston Games &ndash; part of the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold series &ndash; with world record-holders Grant Holloway and Kendra Harrison among the winners.
The women&rsquo;s 100m hurdles was the strongest line-up of the meet, featuring four of the top six women in the world rankings. Harrison, however, once again proved too strong for the rest of the field, notching up her fourth win at the distance this year.
Christina Clemons, who took silver behind Harrison at the World Indoor Championships Birmingham 2018, started strongly and was level with Harrison at half way. Harrison was able to maintain her consistency over final barriers and inched ahead of her opponents to win in a meeting record of 12.49 (-0.9m/s).
Clemons lost a bit of rhythm towards the end, allowing Tobi Amusan to come through and take second in 12.62, 0.10 ahead of Clemons.

 &ldquo;I got the job done,&rdquo; said Harrison, the world record-holder for the distance. &ldquo;My coach wanted me to come out and execute, and I did that. I&rsquo;m confident in myself this year, and the way I&rsquo;ve been performing, things are looking good.&rdquo;
Moments later, Holloway was out on track for the men&rsquo;s 110m hurdles. In complete contrast to the women&rsquo;s race, it was essentially a one-athlete affair as a composed Holloway streaked ahead of his opponents to win in 13.20 (0.0m/s).
Shane Brathwaite of Barbados was second in 13.71 while world record-holder Aries Merritt was further back in fifth (14.26) in what was just the third clash ever between the two world record-holders.

&ldquo;It meant a lot (to line up against Merritt),&rdquo; said Holloway. &ldquo;He&rsquo;s one of my mentors; I try to model myself on him, he&rsquo;s like an older brother to me. It feels good to have him next to me, but at the end of the day, I&rsquo;m trying to have what he has.&rdquo;
Jamaica&rsquo;s Shiann Salmon produced one of the biggest surprises of the meeting, not only in defeating a strong line-up in the 200m hurdles, but also clocking an unofficial world best for the rarely run distance.
Ebony Morrison, the meeting record-holder, started strong, as did the in-form Shamier Little. But Morrison faded in the second half while Salmon, competing in lane one, finished strongly to overtake Little for the win in 24.86. Little&rsquo;s time of 24.91 was also inside the previous world best for the 200m hurdles on a straight (25.05).

&ldquo;It&rsquo;s my first time running 200m on a straight,&rdquo; said Salmon, the 2018 world U20 400m hurdles silver medallist. &ldquo;It was a very strange experience and I was quite nervous, but my coach and I talked about it beforehand and I made sure I just focused on myself and my lane.&rdquo;
The men&rsquo;s event was similarly close. USA&rsquo;s Amere Lattin, a strong all-round hurdler, got out well and led over the first few flights of hurdles. But Brazil&rsquo;s Alison Dos Santos, as is his trademark, finished strongly to edge ahead, winning in a meeting record of 22.11 &ndash; just 0.01 outside the unofficial world best. Lattin was second in 22.18.
&ldquo;In the 400m hurdles, the second half is usually my best part of the race, so I&rsquo;m very happy to win over the shorter event today,&rdquo; said the Brazilian 400m hurdles record-holder.
<h3>Miller-Uibo and Blake impress over 200m</h3>
Olympic 400m champion Shaunae Miller-Uibo stepped down to the 200m, the distance she intends to contest at the Tokyo Olympics. And if her display in Boston is anything to go by, she will be hard to beat at the half-lap event in the Japanese capital.
USA&rsquo;s Kortnei Johnson went out hard, but Miller-Uibo ran her own controlled race and built up enough of a lead in the second half that the Bahamian was able to ease off the gas in the closing stages, crossing the line in 22.08 (-0.1m/s) &ndash; a time that only she has ever bettered for the 200m straight.

Johnson was second in 22.40 and 400m specialist Wadeline Jonathas third in 22.57.
&ldquo;Every time I step on the track, I want to do my best and have fun with it,&rdquo; said Miller-Uibo. &ldquo;I&rsquo;m really excited for it (running the 200m at the Olympics). Training has been going well. We&rsquo;ve been dealing with some very minor injuries but we&rsquo;re getting through it.&rdquo;
Fellow Olympic 400m champion Wayde van Niekerk was not quite so fortunate in the men&rsquo;s event. The South African sprinter was in contention until the final 30 metres when he eased up and jogged across the line, limping slightly.
It left Canada&rsquo;s Jerome Blake and Britain&rsquo;s Zharnel Hughes in a two-man battle for the victory with Blake getting it on the line, 19.89 to 19.93 (-0.3m/s). Van Niekerk, who recently returned from a long injury spell, confirmed afterwards that he&rsquo;d simply experienced some discomfort in his hip and so decided to play it safe by easing up.

Isiah Young got the better of world 200m champion Noah Lyles in the 100m. He started well and Lyles was unable to catch him in the latter stages with Young charging through the finish line in a season&rsquo;s best of 9.94 (0.5m/s). Lyles, who clocked a season&rsquo;s best of 10.03 in the heats, finished second in 10.10.
Aleia Hobbs won the women&rsquo;s 100m in 11.05 from Gabby Thomas (11.16).
Jereem Richards, better known as a 200m and 400m sprinter, showed a good turn of speed to win the men&rsquo;s 150m. Yohan Blake and Andrew Hudson battled for the lead in the early stages, but Richards timed his finish well to ease ahead and take the win in 14.75 (0.1m/s). Blake got the verdict over Hudson with both men recorded at 14.94.
Lynna Irby confirmed her all-round sprint prowess to take the women&rsquo;s 150m in 16.53, running into a -1.5m/s headwind. World 200m silver medallist Brittany Brown was second in 16.65.
&ldquo;People think of me as a 400m runner, but I say I&rsquo;m simply a sprinter,&rdquo; said Irby, who confirmed she intends to contest the 200m and 400m at the US Olympic Trials.
<h3>Goule and Arop take road victories</h3>
For just the second time in more than 20 clashes between the pair, Pan-American 800m champion Natoya Goule beat world 800m bronze medallist Ajee Wilson in what was their first duel over 600m.
Held on the roads of Boston earlier in the day, Wilson tried to push the pace in the second half but was unable to shake off the challenge from Goule as the Jamaican timed her kick to perfection to win in 1:24. Wilson finished second in 1:26.
Canada&rsquo;s Marco Arop launched a long run for home in the men&rsquo;s 600m and was rewarded with a comfortable 1:15 victory, beating Sam Ellison and Jamie Webb, both timed at 1:16.
Puerto Rico&rsquo;s Rob Napolitano got carried away slightly in the men&rsquo;s mile and misjudged his finishing spurt. After building up a significant lead in the closing stages, he was soon reeled in by the leading competitors with Olympic 800m bronze medallist Clayton Murphy finishing first in 4:01, closely followed by Sam Prakel and Eric Avila.
Nikki Hiltz&rsquo;s victory in the women&rsquo;s mile was more clear-cut. They waited on the shoulder of US compatriot Rebecca Mehra before forging ahead to win in 4:31.
