Yago Lamela jumps 8.56m in Torino

24 June 1999 - Torino - Spain’s Yago Lamela accomplished the best technical result today in the IAAF Permit Meeting in Torino. World indoor silver medallist leapt to 8.56m to establish a new season’s best and a new Spanish record.

Lamela who had already jumped 8.49m just three days ago in Guadalajara confirmed he’s in great shape and will certainly be one of the hot favourites for the world title in Seville.

"I had a little bit of pressure during my first attempts. Then Beckford landed at 8.50m and I felt really motivated to beat him. I think I can jump even further in August."

Lamela jumped 8.56m at his very last attempt to take victory over Jamaican James Beckford by just 6 centimetres.
