In Chisinau, the capital of Moldova on Friday 30 May, the National Summer Athletics Championship began and during which some good results were shown, especially in the throwing disciplines.

In women’s Hammer Throw Marina Marghieva, 21, in the first attempt established the new national record of Moldova with 70.50m. The previous record of her younger sister Zalina, 20, was improved by more than 1 metre. On her 3rd attempt Marghieva set a new record with a further throw for 70.81. She also had one more throw of 70.00m on her last, 6th attempt.

Former record holder Zalina Marghieva also had 2 attempts over 70m (70.05 and 70.22). Both sisters are coached by their father Soslan Marghiev. The sisters plan to participate in the Beijing Olympics in August.

Experienced Roman Rozna won the men’s Hammer Throw with 76.02. The Discus Throw was won by Vadim Hronovschi – 62.58m. The Shot Put was won by Ivan Emilianov with 19.86m. They all participated in the Athens Olympic Games and plan to go to China in August.

In the women’s 3000m Steeplechase Oxana Juravel,22, won with 9:50.60, establishing a new Moldovan record (her previous best, a year old, was 9:59.04).

In the men’s High Jump, the national record of Radu Tucan,22, is now 2.25m.

Vladimir Letnicov in Triple Jump won with 16.95m, while Victor Covalenco became the Decathlon champion with 7723pts.

All of the strongest athletes of Moldova took part in the Championship, except Olga Cristea, 20, the World Junior 800m champion who is still preparing for her opening to the season.

The track results were influenced by the awful condition of the surface of the capital’s “Dinamo” stadium, which is far more than 20 years old.
