Copenhagen, DenmarkOlympic bronze medallist in the Shot Put Joachim B. Olsen will lead the danish team at the 11th IAAF World Championships in Athletics in Osaka, Japan.

At the Copenhagen Athletics Games two months ago, Olsen gave signal that he’ll be a strong contender for a place on the podium, when improving his five-year-old national record to 21.61m, a European best this season. Olsen claimed the National title in Odense (4/8-5/8) when winning comfortably there with a put of 20.66m.

Javelin throw standout Christina Scherwin will however, not be joining the Danish team. The 31-year-old, who achived her best international result at the last IAAF World Championships in Helsinki 2005 when, after setting two national records, finished fourth in one of the best women’s Javelin Throw competitions ever, is suffering from a bone bruise in her shoulder and has now chosen to recover in order to be fit for the Olympics next year.

”It will be hard to follow Worlds from the sideline, but hopefully it will fire me up and make me hungry for next year,” the Oregon-based Dane said.
