Hammer Throw specialist Aksana Miankova set a Bearussian record on Sunday (29) at the ‘Olympic Prizes’ meet in Minsk. The meeting was split with throwers competing at the sport centre "Staiki", and the runners and shot putters in the Minsk stadium "Dynamo".
Miankova, the recent winner of the European Cup Superleague produced a phenomenal series of three throws. On her first attempt the hammer flew out to 75.51m, the second registered 76.49m, and in the third, 77.32m. Athlete from Mogilyov there by improved her world season lead from the 76.19 which she produced on 7 June in Minsk.
“In training on the day before the European Cup in Annecy I had thrown beyond 77m,” commented Miankova, “therefore I hoped to repeat these far throws in the competition. But the hard surface of the throwing circle in Annecy prevented me from doing that. I’ve returned to “Staiki” a little bit tired, however everything was alright, and I am very pleased with the victory.”
Darya Pchelnik from Grodno also bettered the former world season lead with a second round attempt of 76.33m.
Miankova trains under Valery Vorontsov, and his son Andrey Vorontsov also celebrated success in the men’s Hammer Throw. On the last attempt Vorontsov-junior pressed Valery Svjatoho from Grodno into the second place with 81.31m. Sviatokha answered with a throw on 80.70 and remained second.
24-years-old Alexander Kozulko in the second round produced 76.48 and rose to third place.
