Last year's runner up in both Boston City and New York City Marathon Christopher Cheboiboch was beaten to second position in the 10,000m at the North Rift Valley Provincial Championships held at the edge of Kerio Valley escapment, 30-km north of Eldoret on Saturday 28 June.
Hosea Macharnyang won the 10,000m in 29:01.6 as Cheboiboch followed in 29:02.5. Elisha Birgen was third in 29:03.8.
The two-day event, held at the Kamariny stadium near Iten, also saw Prisca Jepleting, 11th in senior women's 4-km race at the World Cross Country Championships in Lausanne, Switzerland, in March recover well from a second place in the 1500m run to win the 5000m.
Paula Kipchoge won the women's 1500m in 4:22.9 as Jepleting followed in 4:26.8 and Viola Bor third in 4:29.4, while in the 5000m, Jepleting won in 16.16.9 with Pamela Lisoreng second in 16:29.0 and Edith Chelimo third in 16:39.5.
Elizabeth Rumokal, seventh in senior women's short course race in Lausanne, won the 10,000m in 34:53.7 with Nelly Chepkurui second in 34:57.2 and Emily Samoei third in 35:03.4.
Former World Youth champion Isaac Songok was beaten to third place in the 800m, which was won by Edwin Leting in 1:49.6 with Philemon Tanui second in 1:50.0. Songok was timed in 1:50.5.
