MonteCarlo Male World Athlete of the Year and the fastest man in history, Asafa Powell is the headline attraction at the ExxonMobil Bislett Games, in Oslo, Norway on 15 June, the opening meet of the IAAF Golden League 2007.
A spectacular 2006 season saw the Jamaican sprint ace remain undefeated at the 100m and run under 10 seconds on an unprecedented 12 occasions! Powell also won a share of the IAAF Golden League Jackpot, twice equalled his own World 100m record of 9.77 seconds, won the IAAF World Athletics Final, and at the start of a long season in March took the Commonwealth Games gold medal.
Powell, 24, recently began his 2007 campaign at 100m in Belgrade running 9.97, the 26th sub-10 second performance of his career, the fastest time of the young season, and said afterwards: “I’m happy with it and am looking forward to bigger things.” Next 100m stop, Oslo!
The six meeting series of IAAF Golden League 2007 offers a $1 Million Jackpot - athletes must win at all six meetings to acquire at least a share - which represents international athletics’ biggest annual payday.
