Ten men advanced to tomorrow's men's High Jump final after a fairly straightforward qualifying round with 2.29 enough to make the cut.

Three men made it a relatively easy day at the office with a perfect scorecard over four heights from 2.18m to 2.29m: of the trio - world leader Mutaz Essa Barshim of Qatar, German Raul Spank and Dimitrio Chondrokoukis of Greece - it was the Qatari who looked the smoothest, underscoring his role as favourite for his first senior global accolade.

Among those joining the three will be Daegu champion Jesse Williams (USA) and bronze medallist Trevor Barry of the Bahamas, defending champion Ivan Ukhov of Russia, and Russia's reigning Olympic champion Andrey Silnov, who needed a third try at 2.26m and a second at 2.29m.

With his third attempt success, Konstadinos Baniotis became the tenth man to top 2.29m to join his compatriot Chondrokoukis in the final.

Notable non-qualifiers included Czech Jaroslav Baba, Briton Samson Oni and 2007 World champion Donald Thomas, who all topped out at 2.22m.

Notable too was Majed Aldin Ghazal's second attempt success at 2.26m to add four centimetres to his own Syrian national record.
