The Italian Athletic Federation (Fidal) announced yesterday in Rome the names of the 44 athletes who will take part in the IAAF World Championships in Paris.
The head coaches Augusto D’agostino and Roberto Frinolli have selected 26 men and 18 women but have also specified that there may well be further additions to the team.
The case of Andrea Longo is the most interesting for the Italian federation as Longo has been granted an extra 2 days to meet the qualification standards for Paris. Longo will compete in Helsinki on 18 August (qualification deadline 16 Aug) after a two-year ban for a positive doping control and will have to run under 1:46 if he wants to make the trip to Paris.
Other athletes pending qualification are Marco Mazza, Paolo Dal Soglio, Cristiano Andrei, Andrea Barberi e Gianni Carabelli.
