IAAF President Lamine Diack has become a Climate Ally and signed up to the “Tck Tck Tck Time for Climate Justice”campaign.
He joins former UN Secretary-General and President of the Global Humanitarian Forum, Kofi Annan, in his campaign for a fair, robust and binding agreement at the climate talks in Copenhagen in December.
President Diack joins the rapidly growing campaign for climate justice just after the release of its new campaign song “Beds are Burning”, that has received almost 200,000 views since its launch on October the 1st.
President Diack said:
“I am delighted to join this important initiative, on behalf of the IAAF, since I strongly believe it is the responsibility of each human kind, to protect the environment in any way possible. I believe it is a moral obligation to fight climate change and promote environmental awareness. The IAAF is already incorporating environmental planning in our world championship competitions but also promotes environmental activities amongst our 213 Member federations, especially in relation with youth athletics.”
‘Tck Tck Tck – Time for Climate Justice’ campaign
The Time for Climate Justice campaign aims to highlight the importance of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP15) in Copenhagen in December 2009 and lobby for a fair, robust and binding agreement to succeed the Kyoto Protocol. The campaign is the first major initiative of the Global Alliance for Climate Justice. The campaign was created by Havas Worldwide and was launched earlier this year at the 56th Cannes International Advertising Festival..
Kofi Annan announced the creation of a Global Alliance for Climate Justice at the inaugural GHF Annual Forum in June 2008. The Alliance is a global movement which aims to raise awareness for climate justice, a concept according to which pollution has a cost and the poor must be supported in adapting to the consequences of climate change.

Le Président de l'IAAF, Lamine Diack, rejoint Kofi Annan dans sa campagne pour une Justice climatique
Le Président de l'IAAF, M. Lamine Diack, est devenu un Allié du climat et a rejoint la campagne "Tck Tck Tck: Time for Climate Justice".
Il se range ainsi aux côtés de l'ancien Secrétaire général des Nations Unies et le Président du Forum humanitaire mondial, M. Kofi Annan, qui mène une campagne pour un accord équitable, puissant et obligatoire lors du Sommet pour le climat qui se déroule à Copenhague au mois de décembre.
Le Président Diack rejoint la campagne pour une Justice climatique, qui a pris un essor remarquable, juste après le lancement du clip vidéo de sa nouvelle chanson pour la campagne, Beds are Burning; ce clip a déjà été visionné près de 200 000 fois depuis sa présentation, le 1er octobre.
Le Président Diack a déclaré:
"Je suis ravi de me joindre, au nom de l'IAAF, à cette initiative si vitale, car je suis intimement persuadé qu'il est de la responsabilité de chaque être humain de protéger l'environnement de toutes les manières possibles. Je pense que c'est une obligation morale de lutter contre le changement climatique et promouvoir une conscience collective des problèmes environnementaux.
"L'IAAF incorpore déjà des planifications d'ordre environnemental dans ses différents championnats du monde, et nous faisons également la promotion d'activités environnementales auprès de nos 213 Fédérations membres, en nous focalisant surtout sur l'athlétisme des jeunes."
