The IAAF Diamond League meeting which will be staged in London’s Olympic stadium on Friday 26 and Saturday 27 July will play out to capacity crowds of spectators on both days.
British Athletics have confirmed that tickets for the Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games sold out in 75 minutes this morning (19) when they were released to fans who had pre-registered via the British Athletics website.
So a year since the stadium last reverberated with the deafening applause and wild celebrations of fans, who packed the tribunes during every session for nine days to witness the phenomenal Athletics competitions of the Games of XXX Olympiad London 2012, Usain Bolt, Mo Farah and Jessica Ennis to name but a few, have another opportunity to delight the spectators.
Bolt is among 29 London 2012 Olympic Games medallists, including 12 champions and four World record holders, who have, so far, been confirmed for the IAAF Diamond League meeting, which looks set to welcome the largest ever combined audience for a ticketed invitational meeting of this level.
“That the Olympic stadium can fill out to capacity in such a short time is wonderful news not just for London and the IAAF Diamond League but for Athletics as a whole,” commented IAAF President Lamine Diack. “The attraction of Athletics’ star performers from London 2012, who’ll reunite in July for this two-day meeting which is the last IAAF Diamond League before the IAAF World Championships in Moscow, Russia (10 – 18 Aug), have confirmed that the sport’s mass appeal stretches way beyond the major championship environment.”
“This ticket sell-out is a further vindication of the IAAF’s firm backing for the successful campaign to retain the track in London’s Olympic stadium, a venue which we are delighted will host the 2017 IAAF World Championships. This is truly Athletics legacy in action,” confirmed President Diack.
There are now precisely three-weeks to go to the start of the 2013 IAAF Diamond League season in Doha, Qatar (Fri 10 May).
