The fields for the Prefontaine Classic are packed with star quality as global podium rematches and clashes between some of the all-time best look set to light up Hayward Field on Friday and Saturday (3-4).
US aces Melissa Jefferson-Wooden, Ja'Kobe Tharp, Masai Russell and Tara Davis-Woodhall will be joined in Eugene by the likes of global gold medallists Faith Kipyegon, Letsile Tebogo, Collen Kebinatshipi and Keely Hodgkinson when the Wanda Diamond League hits Eugene for its ninth stop of the season.
The Diamond League action takes place on Saturday, when triple world champion Jefferson-Wooden will defend her 100m title against a field of fellow major medallists.
The 25-year-old clocked 10.75 to win at Hayward Field last year before completing a 100m, 200m and 4x100m title treble at the World Championships in Tokyo. The 10.61 she ran in Tokyo makes her the fourth-fastest sprinter of all time and she has not been beaten over 100m since the Olympic final in Paris in 2024, when she got bronze behind Julien Alfred and Sha'Carri Richardson.
Richardson, the 2023 world champion and 2024 winner at the Prefontaine Classic, is among Jefferson-Wooden&rsquo;s rivals in Eugene, where athletes will contest 100m heats before the final. Both Richardson and Jefferson-Wooden have dipped under 10.90 already this season, as have two-time world 200m champion Shericka Jackson, world 100m silver medallist Tina Clayton and world leader Adaejah Hodge. Adding further strength to the fields are Dina Asher-Smith, Tia Clayton, Shawnti Jackson, Favour Ofili and Amy Hunt.
Botswana&rsquo;s Olympic champion Tebogo will seek back-to-back wins in the 200m following his Diamond League victory in Oslo. This time his competition includes world bronze medallist Bryan Levell, Olympic finalist Makanakaishe Charamba and Jos&eacute; Figueroa, who recently ran a Puerto Rican record of 19.87, as well as Tate Taylor, the recent US U20 100m and 200m champion at Hayward Field.
The men&rsquo;s 100m is not a Diamond League event but it pits the top two in the world so far this year &ndash; Jamaica&rsquo;s world champion Oblique Seville and NCAA champion Kanyinsola Ajayi &ndash; against two-time Olympic and world 200m silver medallist Kenny Bednarek.
<h2>Tharp and Russell head top-class hurdles clashes</h2>
Ja'Kobe Tharp returns to the scene of his 110m hurdles world record. The US 20-year-old clocked 12.75 during the heats at the NCAA Championships, taking 0.05 off the world record set by Aries Merritt in 2012, and now prepares for the second Diamond League of his career. After finishing third in Monaco last year behind Trey Cunningham and Cordell Tinch, Tharp will again face Tinch &ndash; now lining up as the world champion &ndash; as well as Jamal Britt, who won the Paris Diamond League in 12.89, and world silver medallist Orlando Bennett.
USA&rsquo;s Olympic champion Masai Russell edged closer to the world 100m hurdles record at the Diamond League meeting in Xiamen, her 12.14 just two hundredths of a second off the 12.12 set by Nigeria&rsquo;s Tobi Amusan in Oregon in 2022. The two meet again in Eugene, as part of a field in which all nine athletes have PBs of 12.37 or faster &ndash; that being the time achieved by world 60m hurdles record-holder Devynne Charlton when finishing third behind Russell and Amusan in Xiamen. They line up alongside former world record-holder Keni Harrison, two-time world champion Danielle Williams, world bronze medallist Grace Stark and last year&rsquo;s Diamond League champion Ackera Nugent.
The men&rsquo;s 400m brings together two reigning world champions &ndash; Botswana&rsquo;s Collen Kebinatshipi and USA&rsquo;s 400m hurdles star Rai Benjamin &ndash; against Khaleb McRae, Jacory Patterson and Michael Norman, who won his world title in Eugene in 2022.&nbsp;Kebinatshipi ran 43.54 to win the Diamond League in Paris, just 0.01 off the PB he set when winning his world title.
<h2>Kipyegon back on world record track</h2>
Like Tharp, Kenya&rsquo;s Faith Kipyegon also returns to the track on which she set a world record. The five-time world and three-time Olympic champion set the most recent of her world records &ndash; 3:48.68 for 1500m &ndash; during last year&rsquo;s Prefontaine Classic and she returns to contest the mile, the event in which she has held the world record of 4:07.64 since 2023.
The event brings together all the 1500m medallists from the last World Championships and Olympic Games &ndash; Dorcus Ewoi and Jess Hull, who joined Kipyegon on the podium in Tokyo, plus Great Britain&rsquo;s Georgia Hunter Bell, who got Olympic bronze behind Kipyegon and Hull in Paris and went on to clinch world 800m silver in Tokyo between Lilian Odira and Keely Hodgkinson.
Odira and Hodgkinson are also in action in Eugene and they go head-to-head over two laps &ndash; world champion against Olympic champion. Both are on the hunt for their first Diamond League wins of the season, Hodgkinson after having finished second to Audrey Werro in a national record of 1:54.33 in Stockholm.
Four of the six fastest women of all time clash in the 3000m steeplechase. Bahrain&rsquo;s Olympic champion Winfred Yavi, who sits second on that all-time list with her 9:44.39 from 2024, renews her rivalry with world champion Faith Cherotich, Tokyo Olympic champion Peruth Chemutai and Norah Jeruto, the world champion in Eugene in 2022. Emma Coburn, the 2017 champion, makes it four world gold medallists in the field.
The two-mile race features Ethiopia&rsquo;s two-time world U20 cross-country champion Marta Alemayo and her compatriots Hirut Meshesha and Aleshign Baweke.
The men&rsquo;s Bowerman Mile closes the programme on Saturday and stars USA&rsquo;s Olympic 1500m and world 5000m champion Cole Hocker against Diamond League 1500m champion Niels Laros, back to defend his title. Laros won last year ahead of Yared Nuguse, Azeddine Habz, Hocker, Reynold Cheruiyot, Cameron Myers and Timothy Cheruiyot, and they all clash again.
<h2>Big shots in the field</h2>
The women&rsquo;s shot put hosts another gathering of global champions as Dutch world champion Jessica Schilder takes on Olympic champion Yemisi Mabry, two-time world gold medallist Chase Jackson and two-time world indoor champion Sarah Mitton. Schilder leads the way so far this season with the 21.09m Diamond League record she set in Shanghai.
The men&rsquo;s shot put brings together the leading seven athletes on the season top list, two-time world champion Joe Kovacs currently at the head of that list after his 22.58m to win in Rabat. Two-time world medallist Leonardo Fabbri has thrown 22.50m this season, while Olympic bronze medallist Rajindra Campbell sits just behind them on 22.44m. Also in action are Tom Walsh, Jordan Geist, Roger Steen and Chuk Enekwechi.
USA&rsquo;s Olympic and world champion Tara Davis-Woodhall soared a PB of 7.20m in LA last month and heads a long jump field featuring Alexis Brown and Alyssa Jones, who have also surpassed seven metres this season, plus two-time Diamond League champion Larissa Iapichino and two-time world champion Malaika Mihambo.
The world record-holders star in both the men&rsquo;s discus and the women&rsquo;s hammer. Mykolas Alekna, who improved his world discus record to 75.56m in Ramona last year, opens his Diamond League campaign after injury against 2022 world champion Kristjan Čeh, who won in Shanghai, and three-time world champion Daniel Stahl, the victor in Stockholm, plus Olympic champion Roj&eacute; Stona and bronze medallist Matthew Denny.
In the non-Diamond League hammer, Anita Włodarczyk competes in a field led by Olympic and world champion Camryn Rogers &ndash; a line-up that stars the athletes to have claimed the last four Olympic titles and last seven world titles. World leader Rogers, who threw 81.13m in April, and Włodarczyk are joined by Brooke Andersen and DeAnna Price. This is another event that brings together all the medallists from Tokyo and Paris, as world medallists Zhao Jie and Zhang Jiale are entered, along with Annette Echikunwoke, who got Olympic bronze between Rogers and Zhao.
The men&rsquo;s hammer, starring Olympic and world champion Ethan Katzberg, kicks off the non-Diamond League action on Friday. World leader Valarie Sion, the world and two-time Olympic champion, goes in the discus, while the pole vault features twin sisters Hana and Amanda Moll, who have respectively cleared 4.88m and 4.84m this year, plus three-time world champion Katie Moon.&nbsp;
USA&rsquo;s 17-year-old world indoor champion Cooper Lutkenhaus ran 1:42.08 to win in Oslo and will be on the hunt for his third outdoor 800m win in a row after also clinching victory in Stockholm, while double Olympic bronze medallist Grant Fisher races the two mile event.

Global podium rematches and clashes between some of the all-time best look set to light up Hayward Field

Global champions and world record-holders star across stacked fields for Eugene

Audrey Werro, Collen Kebinatshipi and Marileidy Paulino all broke Diamond League records at the Meeting de Paris on Sunday (28), as the Wanda Diamond League reached its midway point.
A heatwave across most of France had put the meeting in doubt, but thankfully the elite disciplines were able to go ahead. And once the competition got underway, the performances rose to match the conditions.
Werro continued her superb run of form to win a remarkable women&rsquo;s 800m in 1:53.80 &ndash; the third-fastest time in history.
The pacemaker led through the first lap in 55.35, with Werro just a few strides behind in about 55.8. The Swiss athlete took up the running at 500m, with two-time world 400m hurdles champion Femke Broeders-Bol and Ana&iuml;s Bourgoin battling for position behind her as Werro passed 600m in 1:25.27.
Bourgoin moved into second with 100 metres to go, but Broeders-Bol fought back down the home straight as Werro pulled clear to achieve a historic victory, becoming the first woman to break 1:54 on more than one occasion.
&ldquo;I wasn&rsquo;t expecting to be running so fast this season,&rdquo; said Werro, who also won in Stockholm earlier this month in 1:53.98. &ldquo;I feel that the biggest change in my life is the fact that I have become a professional athlete. I am no longer at school, and I must say it was tough to juggle both activities. Now, there is no excuse as I have all the time in the world to just focus on training, recovering, and the sport itself.&rdquo;
Broeders-Bol finished second in a PB of 1:55.60, moving to 24th on the world all-time list and just 0.06 shy of Ellen van Langen&rsquo;s Dutch record. Bourgoin was third in a French record of 1:55.65, while Prudence Sekgodiso was fourth in 1:56.83 and Renelle Lamote fifth in 1:56.93. Australia&rsquo;s Sarah Billings set an Oceanian record of 1:57.01 in sixth, with all of the top six setting PBs.
Just moments earlier, Kebinatshipi broke the men&rsquo;s 400m Diamond League record, clocking 43.54 to win a high-quality race.
Olympic silver medallist Matthew Hudson-Smith led into the home straight but Kebinatshipi timed his finish to perfection as the versatile sprinter from Botswana charged through the line.
The world champion&rsquo;s time was just 0.01 shy of the PB he set when winning his global title and took 0.06 off the previous Diamond League record set by Michael Norman in 2022. South Africa&rsquo;s Zakithi Nene finished second in 43.89, with USA&rsquo;s Chris Bailey third in 44.06. Hudson-Smith faded to fourth in a season&rsquo;s best of 44.09.
Paulino completed the trio of Diamond League records in the women&rsquo;s 400m. The Olympic champion moved up a gear with 150 metres to go and powered away to win in 48.48.
It was the third-fastest clocking of Paulino&rsquo;s career, behind only the times she ran at the 2024 Olympic Games and 2025 World Championships, and it took 0.09 off the Diamond League record set by Nickisha Pryce in 2024. World indoor champion Lurdes Gloria Manuel finished second in 49.37, with Stacey Ann Williams third in 49.51 and Lieke Klaver fourth in 49.97.
<h2>Meeting records broken and threatened</h2>
Mondo Duplantis also added a record-breaking performance to the evening, clearing 6.13m to break his own Meeting de Paris pole vault record from 2021.
The world record-holder needed just three jumps to secure victory, clearing each height on his first attempt. He was the only athlete to go clear at 6.03m, and then went 10 centimetres higher. He ended his series with three attempts at a would-be world record of 6.32m, but the Swede was more than happy to return to winning ways after his surprise recent defeat in Stockholm. France&rsquo;s Baptiste Thiery finished second with 5.93m.
Jamal Britt produced another standout performance in the men&rsquo;s 110m hurdles, coming from behind to win in 12.89 (0.8m/s), moving him to equal eighth on the world all-time list. Japan&rsquo;s Shunsuke Izumiya came through for second in 13.01, ahead of Trey Cunningham (13.07).
Marco Arop dominated the men&rsquo;s 800m. The 2023 world champion went through the first lap in about 50 seconds, then moved up a gear and opened a huge lead on the rest of the field. He faded only in the final 40 metres, but still won by almost two seconds in a world-leading 1:41.84, the third-fastest time of his career.
Niels Laros finished second in a PB of 1:43.60, with Tobias Gronstad third in 1:43.63.
Less than three weeks after turning 20, Cameron Myers impressed in the men&rsquo;s 1500m to break the Oceanian record with a world-leading 3:28.00.
The Australian began a long run for home at 1000m, then dropped Azeddine Habz with 200 metres to go before winning by almost two seconds. Habz finished second in 3:29.80, with 2022 world champion Jake Wightman third in a season&rsquo;s best of 3:29.95.
Tobi Amusan came through over the final three barriers to win the women&rsquo;s 100m hurdles in 12.28 (0.7m/s). Grace Stark was second in 12.38 and Alaysha Johnson third in 12.39. Nadine Visser led during the first half of the race but faded to fourth in 12.41, with the top five women all setting season&rsquo;s bests.
World indoor champion Georgia Hunter Bell once again showed impressive tactical awareness to win the women&rsquo;s 1500m in 3:55.63, just 0.07 shy of the world lead.
Jessica Hull followed the pacemaker through the first half, then held the lead after the pacemaker stepped aside with 600 metres remaining. Freweyni Hailu closed the gap, with Hunter Bell and Agathe Guillemot also breaking away from the rest of the field by the bell.
Hailu took the lead with 250 metres to go, but Hunter Bell responded and moved ahead with 150 metres remaining before going on to win. Hailu was second in 3:55.92, while Guillemot set a French record of 3:56.24 in third. Hull finished fourth in a season&rsquo;s best of 3:57.22.
<h2>Bromell takes 100m, Fisher wins 5000m</h2>
Trayvon Bromell won the men&rsquo;s 100m from lane eight, clocking a season&rsquo;s best of 9.91 (0.1m/s). Noah Lyles was second in 9.92, with 2021 Olympic champion Marcell Jacobs third in a season&rsquo;s best of 9.96.
The men&rsquo;s 5000m had originally been billed as an attempt on the European record by world 10,000m champion Jimmy Gressier, but the pack fell off the desired pace in the early laps and the focus shifted to the race for victory.
Final pacemaker Etienne Daguinos led through 3000m in 7:46.27, by which time the main pack was almost 30 metres behind, but a large group was still in contention at the bell. In the closing stages, USA&rsquo;s Grant Fisher emerged from the pack to win in 12:54.80 from Kenya&rsquo;s Jacob Krop (12:55.22) and Andreas Almgren (12:55.38). Burundi&rsquo;s Egide Ntakarutimana set a national record of 12:56.06 in fourth, while Gressier faded to seventh in 12:57.79.
In the men&rsquo;s 3000m steeplechase, four athletes were still in contention at the bell: African champion Gemechu Godana, Edmund Serem, Samuel Firewu and Karl Bebendorf. Bebendorf kicked with 200 metres to go and went on to win in a PB of 8:05.55, moving to second on the German all-time list behind Frederik Ruppert, who broke the European record earlier this year. Godana, contesting his first steeplechase outside Africa, held on for second in 8:05.86, a PB by nine seconds.
Angelica Moser won the women&rsquo;s pole vault with 4.77m. Eliza McCartney had led up to and including 4.70m with first-time clearances, but couldn&rsquo;t get over 4.77m. Olympic champion Nina Kennedy was third, also with 4.70m. Moser had one attempt at 4.90m but lost her grip and had an awkward fall, so opted not to take any further attempts.
In the women&rsquo;s javelin, Yan Ziyi threw 67.44m in the first round, a mark that proved enough to win by almost four metres. She had one other measured throw, 60.52m in the third round, then passed her final three attempts.
Sarah Mitton won a close women&rsquo;s shot put contest with 19.99m, finishing ahead of Olympic champion Yemisi Mabry, who threw 19.93m, and world leader Jessica Schilder, who reached 19.88m.

Werro, Kebinatshipi and Paulino break Diamond League records in Paris

Mondo Duplantis will return to Paris for the first time since winning his second Olympic pole vault title when he competes at the Meeting de Paris on Sunday (28), the eighth of 15 Wanda Diamond League meetings this season.
The Swedish world record-holder heads back to the French capital looking to reassert himself after a rare defeat at the Stockholm Diamond League earlier this month. Before that competition, Duplantis had won 41 consecutive pole vault contests, building one of the most dominant streaks in the sport.
Paris now offers an opportunity for the multiple world and Olympic champion to respond on a stage filled with happy memories. It was in the French capital two years ago that he won his second Olympic gold, doing so with a world record height of 6.25m.
Duplantis, who has since increased his world record to 6.31m, now returns to Paris to face a field that includes the full top 12 from the world rankings and all medallists from the three most recent global championships.
Australia&rsquo;s Kurtis Marschall, the man who beat Duplantis in Stockholm, is again in the line-up. So too are the two men who joined Duplantis on the Olympic podium in 2024, Sam Kendricks and Emmanouil Karalis. Karalis and Marschall, meanwhile, were podium finishers behind Duplantis at both the 2025 World Championships and 2026 World Indoor Championships.
Audrey Werro heads to Paris in the form of her life following a series of outstanding performances. The Swiss athlete clocked a world-leading 1:53.98 to win the 800m in Stockholm, then followed it with a 1:54.45 victory in Hengelo. Earlier this week she also recorded a European 600m best of 1:22.85.
In Paris, Werro takes on Femke Broeders-Bol, who will contest her first 800m in a Diamond League race. The two-time world 400m hurdles champion has made an impressive start to life over two laps, finishing second to Werro in Hengelo in a PB of 1:57.16 before producing a dominant 1:57.41 victory in Ostrava.
Others in the field include Australia&rsquo;s Sarah Billings, 2025 world indoor champion Prudence Sekgodiso and Botswana&rsquo;s Oratile Nowe.
Noah Lyles will also make his first competition appearance in Paris since winning Olympic 100m gold in the French capital in 2024.
The US sprinter, recently named as an Ultimate Star for the World Athletics Ultimate Championship, is undefeated outdoors this year. He won the 100m at the Rome Diamond League in 9.88, then set a world best of 14.67 for 150m at the Golden Spike in Ostrava.
In Paris, Lyles takes on world indoor champion Jordan Anthony, 2021 Olympic champion Marcell Jacobs, Kenya&rsquo;s Ferdinand Omanyala, South Africa&rsquo;s Akani Simbine and USA&rsquo;s Trayvon Bromell.
Jimmy Gressier will carry strong home hopes in the men&rsquo;s 5000m.
The world 10,000m champion contests his first 5000m of the season, fresh from setting a French 3000m record of 7:28.67 in Montreuil last week. He faces a loaded field that includes Ethiopia&rsquo;s Addisu Yihune, winner of the Oslo Diamond League in a world-leading 12:47.62, and Asian record-holder Birhanu Balew, who was a close second in Oslo.
World 10,000m bronze medallist Andreas Almgren, USA&rsquo;s double Olympic bronze medallist Grant Fisher and steeplechase world record-holder Lamecha Girma are also in the field.
<h2>Olympic podium reunites over 400m</h2>
The men&rsquo;s 400m brings together the full Olympic podium, with Quincy Hall, Matthew Hudson-Smith and Muzala Samukonga all set to race.
They will be joined by the top two finishers from the 2025 World Championships, Collen Kebinatshipi and Jereem Richards, as well as USA&rsquo;s 2025 world indoor champion Chris Bailey and South Africa&rsquo;s Zakithi Nene.
Olympic champion Marileidy Paulino heads the women&rsquo;s 400m field after her 48.91 victory at the Doha Diamond League. She faces world indoor champion Lurdes Gloria Manuel and Olympic bronze medallist Natalia Bukowiecka.
The men&rsquo;s 110m hurdles features six athletes with sub-13-second PBs, three of whom have achieved that feat this year: Trey Cunningham, Jamal Britt and Kendrick Smallwood. Japanese record-holder Rachid Muratake and in-form Cuban Kendry Menendez are also in the line-up.
The women&rsquo;s 100m hurdles is similarly stacked. World record-holder Tobi Amusan faces world champion Ditaji Kambundji, three-time world indoor champion Devynne Charlton, former world record-holder Kendra Harrison, world bronze medallist Grace Stark, Olympic silver medallist Cyrena Samba-Mayela, Jamaican champion Demisha Roswell and Dutch record-holder Nadine Visser.

Olympic champion Nina Kennedy, winner in Rabat last month, will aim to secure her second Diamond League victory of 2026 in the women's pole vault. New Zealand's Eliza McCartney and Imogen Ayris are set to challenge, while European champion Angelica Moser will be looking to upset the Antipodean party.
World indoor champion Georgia Hunter Bell leads the women&rsquo;s 1500m field. She faces two-time world indoor champion Freweyni Hailu, Olympic silver medallist Jessica Hull and Australia&rsquo;s Abbey Caldwell, who won in Xiamen last month.
The men&rsquo;s 1500m includes 2022 world champion Jake Wightman, world bronze medallist Reynold Cheruiyot, Australia&rsquo;s Cameron Myers, Niels Laros of the Netherlands, French record-holder Azeddine Habz and world road mile champion Hobbs Kessler.
In the men&rsquo;s 800m, 2023 world champion Marco Arop takes on Algeria&rsquo;s Slimane Moula and European champion Gabriel Tual.

Emma Zapletalov&aacute; and Marileidy Paulino impressed over one lap of the track in Doha, setting meeting records in the 400m hurdles and 400m, respectively, during the Wanda Diamond League meeting on Friday (19).
Zapletalov&aacute;&rsquo;s 52.30 improved her own world-leading Slovakian record and moved her to sixth on the world 400m hurdles all-time list. World leads were also set in both triple jump contests, Davisleydi Velazco joining the 15-metre club and Pedro Pichardo making a statement on his season debut.&nbsp;
Zapletalov&aacute; has had a sensational season so far. The world bronze medallist is unbeaten in her specialism this year and after wins in Rabat, Rome and Oslo, she clinched her fourth consecutive Diamond League victory in her quickest time yet &ndash; 52.30 &ndash; to become the sixth-fastest women&rsquo;s 400m hurdler in history.
On a hot evening in Qatar's capital, the 26-year-old judged her race to perfection and won by three-quarters of a second ahead of Jamaica&rsquo;s Rushell Clayton.

Dominican Republic&rsquo;s Olympic champion Paulino also dominated her event, smashing Allyson Felix&rsquo;s 18-year-old 400m meeting record by almost a second on her Diamond League season debut. Catapulting herself off the final bend, she stormed away from her rivals down the home straight to win in 48.91. Olympic bronze medallist Natalia Bukowiecka chased her over the finish line in 50.10, while Roxana G&oacute;mez was third in 50.23.
<h2>Velazco joins 15-metre club, Pichardo wins close contest</h2>
Cuba&rsquo;s Velazco soared into the 15-metre club, winning the women&rsquo;s triple jump with a world-leading PB of 15.13m (1.3m/s). With that fifth-round leap, the 26-year-old surpassed the wind-assisted 14.97m (2.5m/s) achieved in the second round by her compatriot Leyanis P&eacute;rez Hern&aacute;ndez, the world and two-time world indoor champion, to secure her second consecutive Diamond League victory after her win in Oslo.&nbsp;
Improving her PB by 28 centimetres, Velazco achieved the farthest leap in the world since 2023 and her series also included jumps of 14.97m &ndash; which had matched the lead &ndash; and 14.69m. P&eacute;rez Hern&aacute;ndez backed up her wind-aided mark with a wind-legal 14.93m (1.5m/s), just five centimetres off her PB. In a quality contest, Senegal's world indoor bronze medallist Saly Sarr jumped a PB of 14.86m for third place.

Portugal&rsquo;s two-time world champion Pichardo won a close battle between global medallists in the men&rsquo;s triple jump, leaping a world lead of 17.71m (0.4m/s) to triumph by two centimetres ahead of Jamaica&rsquo;s Jordan Scott. The top three were separated by only four centimetres, Yasser Triki improving his own Algerian record to 17.67m (0.4m/s).
Scott, the world indoor silver medallist, improved his PB to 17.69m (1.7m/s) from his opening attempt &ndash; a mark he matched in the fourth round &ndash; but Pichardo, in his first competition since winning world gold in Tokyo in September, responded with 17.71m in the second round to take the lead. Triki&rsquo;s national record came in the fourth round, improving on his previous best of 17.43m set at the Tokyo Olympics.
Greece&rsquo;s Emmanouil Karalis won the pole vault on countback. The world silver medallist, No.2 on the world all-time list thanks to his 6.17m clearance from February, this time managed a best of 5.92m on his second try &ndash; a height also cleared by Chris Nilsen and Sondre Guttormsen on their third attempts.
<h2>Sprint success for Dambile and Nelson</h2>
South Africa&rsquo;s Sinesipho Dambile has improved with each of his Diamond League races this season, following his third place in Rabat and runner-up finishes in Stockholm and Oslo with a 200m win in a PB of 19.74 (1.8m/s) in Doha. Zimbabwe&rsquo;s Makanakaishe Charamba was second in 19.88, matching his PB, while Alexander Ogando also dipped under 20 seconds, clocking 19.96.

Jamaica&rsquo;s Kemba Nelson won the 100m &ndash; her first Diamond League victory &ndash; after a storming second half to her race. She strode away from her rivals and crossed the finish line in a wind-assisted 10.88 (2.5m/s) ahead of world indoor champion Zaynab Dosso (11.01) and Patrizia van der Weken (11.05).
World champion Cordell Tinch maintained his composure to win a 110m hurdles contest full of knocked barriers. Jamal Britt and Kendry Men&eacute;ndez started well but as they hit a few hurdles, USA&rsquo;s Tinch moved through the field to win in 13.23 (1.4m/s). Asier Mart&iacute;nez secured second place in 13.27 and Thomas Wilkes was third in a PB of 13.28.
USA&rsquo;s world indoor bronze medallist Addison Wiley held off a strong challenge from Olympic silver medallist Tsige Duguma in the 800m to win her first Diamond League race &ndash; 1:57.98 to 1:58.08. Halimah Nakaayi was third in 1:58.41.
Ethiopia&rsquo;s Birke Haylom dominated the 1500m, following her Diamond League win in Shanghai with another victory in 3:59.89. Saron Berhe closed the gap slightly in the closing stages but was still a couple of seconds back, securing the runner-up spot in 4:02.61. Haregeweyni Kalayu completed an Ethiopian top three in 4:03.56 and Germany&rsquo;s two-time world 3000m steeplechase bronze medallist Gesa Felicitas Krause ran a PB of 4:04.28 for fourth place.
Ethiopia&rsquo;s Medina Eisa held off her compatriot Likina Amebaw, the world leader, to win the 5000m. They both managed to stay out of trouble during a last lap that saw Fantaye Belayneh and Asayech Ayichew fall, Eisa reaching the finish line in 14:53.91, a couple of strides ahead of Amebaw (14:54.37). Marta Alemayo, the two-time world U20 cross-country champion, was third in 14:55.65.
Morocco&rsquo;s two-time Olympic champion Soufiane El Bakkali won the 3000m steeplechase, maintaining his unbeaten season in 8:09.28 after his Diamond League wins in Rabat and Stockholm. Samuel Firewu was second in 8:10.44 and Daniel Arce was third in 8:13.35.
Sri Lanka&rsquo;s world leader Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage won the javelin by more than two metres, throwing 88.68m to beat two-time world champion Anderson Peters (86.38m). Pathirage now has the top five winning marks of the season.
Italy&rsquo;s world U20 silver medallist Matteo Sioli soared to his second Diamond League victory in the high jump, following his win on home soil in Rome with a 2.29m clearance to triumph again. Home favourite Mutaz Barshim was second on 2.27m.

Zapletalová and Paulino break meeting records in Doha

Full World Championship podiums in the men&rsquo;s javelin and men&rsquo;s triple jump will be reunited at the Doha Diamond League on Friday (19), as the Wanda Diamond League season continues with its seventh meeting of 2026.
Originally scheduled for early May, the Doha meeting was moved to June and will now bring together some of the strongest fields of the season so far, including several events featuring global champions.
The men&rsquo;s javelin once again looks set to be one of the highlights, with the 2025 World Championships podium all returning to action. World champion Keshorn Walcott, two-time world champion Anderson Peters and world bronze medallist Curtis Thompson will renew their rivalry in a field that also includes 2021 Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra, who makes his season debut, and Sri Lanka&rsquo;s Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage, one of the revelations of 2026.
Pathirage arrives in Doha as the world leader after his huge 92.62m victory in Rome earlier this month, which moved him to eighth on the world all-time list. He has won six of his seven competitions so far this year; his narrow loss to Peters in Rabat &ndash; his first ever Diamond League appearance &ndash; has been his only blemish on his 2026 scorecard.
Doha has long been renowned for big javelin marks, and several athletes in this field have produced their career bests there. Chopra joined the 90-metre club in the Qatari capital with his PB of 90.23m, as did Peters (93.07m) and Jakub Vadlejch (90.88m) in their memorable clash in 2022. With Pathirage already beyond 92 metres this season, the conditions and competition could again combine to produce something special.
There will be another World Championship podium reunion in the men&rsquo;s triple jump. Pedro Pichardo and Andrea Dallavalle both open their seasons against Lazaro Martinez, completing the podium from Tokyo last year.
They will be joined by world indoor silver medallist Jordan Scott, who has jumped 17.66m this season, and world indoor bronze medallist Yasser Triki, who has a season&rsquo;s best of 17.32m.
The women&rsquo;s triple jump also has a strong championship feel, led by world indoor and outdoor champion Leyanis Perez Hernandez and Olympic champion Thea Lafond. Saly Sarr, the world indoor bronze medallist, is also in the field, along with Davisleydi Velazco, who has won her past five competitions, including the Oslo Diamond League with 14.85m.
Olympic champion Marileidy Paulino will contest her first Diamond League race of 2026 in the women&rsquo;s 400m. She takes on Olympic bronze medallist Natalia Bukowiecka and Cuba&rsquo;s Roxana Gomez.
World champion Cordell Tinch lines up in the men&rsquo;s 110m hurdles against Jamal Britt, the newest member of the sub-13-second club after his 12.99 victory at the Los Angeles Grand Prix.
<h2>Zapletalova and Charamba look to extend winning streaks</h2>
Emma Zapletalova will aim to continue her unbeaten start to 2026 in the women&rsquo;s 400m hurdles.
The world bronze medallist has already improved the world lead and Slovakian record to 52.58 this season, and she lines up in Doha against Jamaica&rsquo;s Rushell Clayton and Panama&rsquo;s Gianna Woodruff.
In the men&rsquo;s 200m, Makanakaishe Charamba will look to build on the momentum of his recent 19.88 PB at the Lone Star Grand Prix. The Zimbabwean, who is unbeaten over 200m so far this season, takes on South Africa&rsquo;s Sinesipho Dambile and Alexander Ogando of the Dominican Republic.
The women&rsquo;s 800m features Olympic silver medallist Tsige Duguma, fellow Ethiopian Nigist Getachew, 2025 world indoor champion Prudence Sekgodiso, Botswana&rsquo;s Oratile Nowe and Lone Star Grand Prix winner Shafiqua Maloney.
In the men&rsquo;s pole vault, Greece&rsquo;s world silver medallist Emmanouil Karalis &ndash; the second-highest vaulter in history &ndash; faces Norway&rsquo;s Sondre Guttormsen and USA&rsquo;s Chris Nilsen, while home favourite Mutaz Barshim will contest the men&rsquo;s high jump, looking to improve on his season&rsquo;s best of 2.23m.
<h2>Ethiopian depth in distance races</h2>
There will be a sizeable Ethiopian presence in both the women&rsquo;s 5000m and women&rsquo;s 1500m.
The 5000m is led by Likina Amebaw, who won the Rome Diamond League with a world-leading PB of 14:18.41. She is joined by 2025 Diamond League champion Fantaye Belayneh and Medina Eisa.
The women&rsquo;s 1500m is headed by Birke Haylom, winner of the Shanghai Diamond League. Fellow Ethiopians Worknesh Mesele, Haregeweyni Kalayu and Saron Berhe also line up.
In the men&rsquo;s 3000m steeplechase, two-time Olympic champion Soufiane El Bakkali returns to action against Olympic bronze medallist Abraham Kibiwot and 2024 Diamond League champion Amos Serem.

Javelin and triple jump stars set for Doha clashes

Narrow wins by Cooper Lutkenhaus and Timothy Cheruiyot, sprint victories by Julien Alfred and Letsile Tebogo, and statement triumphs by Chase Jackson and Alison dos Santos highlighted the Wanda Diamond League action in Oslo on Wednesday (10).
An 800m battle between the world and Olympic champion and the world indoor champion ended in a photo finish as Lutkenhaus made it two out of two for Diamond League victories.
The US world indoor champion won his Diamond League debut in Stockholm in 1:42.70 &ndash; then the fastest outdoor time in the world this year &ndash; and just three days later he emulated that performance at the Bislett Games in Oslo, running a world-leading PB of 1:42.08 to move to joint 14th on the world all-time list.
The 17-year-old tracked two-time global gold medallist Emmanuel Wanyonyi for the first lap, waiting for his moment to strike. Lutkenhaus kicked past his rival with 200 metres to go but Wanyonyi fought back &ndash; finishing just a hundredth of a second back as Lutkenhaus dived over the line to narrowly miss the meeting record of 1:42.04 set by world record-holder David Rudisha in 2010.
Marco Arop, who finished second to Lutkenhaus in Stockholm &ndash; a meeting that Wanyonyi missed following the birth of his first child &ndash; was third this time in 1:43.33.
"It was a very tough race and I had to dive for the line to be sure of the win," said&nbsp;Lutkenhaus. "I knew he (Wanyonyi) was on my shoulder and I was willing the line to come towards me.
"To beat the Olympic champion is awesome and it means a lot. I have not seen the grazes yet from my dive but I think they will hurt in the shower later."
Kenya&rsquo;s Cheruiyot dipped to his first Diamond League win since 2021, the 2019 world 1500m champion beating a stacked field in the Dream Mile. In another photo finish, both Cheruiyot and Yared Nuguse clocked 3:48.21 &ndash; the fastest outdoor time in the world so far this year &ndash; but after winning the 1500m from Cameron Myers and Cheruiyot in Stockholm, Olympic bronze medallist&nbsp;Nuguse had to settle for second place this time. Myers was third in 3:48.35 and the top 10 all finished inside 3:50.

<h2>Alfred, Tebogo and Dos Santos in control</h2>
Botswana&rsquo;s Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo cruised to his first Diamond League win of the season, clocking a season&rsquo;s best of 19.84 (0.2m/s) in the 200m despite easing down on his approach to the finish line.
Sinesipho Dambile was second in Stockholm and he repeated the feat in Oslo, running 20.12 this time. Jereem Richards was third in 20.50 and Gout Gout &ndash; who ran a world lead and world U20 record of 19.67 in April &ndash; finished sixth on his Diamond League debut in 20.60.
Saint Lucia&rsquo;s Olympic champion Julien Alfred picked up from where she left off last year &ndash; powering to victory in her first Diamond League 100m since her win in the final in September. Dominating the race, she ran a wind-assisted 10.76 (3.2m/s) ahead of world 200m silver medallist Amy Hunt (10.99) and Zoe Hobbs (11.03).
Brazil&rsquo;s 2022 world champion Alison dos Santos won his fourth hurdles race of the year &ndash; and his third head-to-head against home star Karsten Warholm &ndash; taking the 400m hurdles in 46.89. Dos Santos beat the world record-holder in Shanghai and Xiamen, and then won a promotional race in Stockholm, and he maintained that form to win clearly again in the 10th-fastest time of his career. Warholm, who hit an early barrier, finished second in 47.40.
Slovak record-holder Emma Zapletalov&aacute; also continued her strong start to the season, winning her third Diamond League 400m hurdles race of the year in 53.13. Rushell Clayton went one better than in Rabat and Rome, finishing second in 53.50.
<h2>Meeting record for Jackson</h2>
World indoor champion Chase Jackson turned the tables on world champion Jessica Schilder in the shot put, throwing a meeting record of 20.74m to clinch her first Diamond League win of the season. After finishing runner-up to Schilder in Shanghai and Stockholm, USA's Jackson showed she meant business by throwing her winning mark in the first round. The performance is just 21 centimetres off her own US record and improves the meeting record of 20.26m set by Valerie Adams in 2011. Schilder, who threw a Diamond League record of 21.09m in Shanghai, was second this time with 20.11m.

Freweyni Hailu threatened the meeting record in the 3000m, rebounding after her third-place finish in the 5000m in Rome by winning in a world-leading 8:24.22, 0.02 off the record. She led an Ethiopian top four and was followed home by Rome winner Likina Amebaw in 8:25.15, Senayet Getachew in a PB of 8:25.85, Hawi Abera in a PB of 8:27.18 and Netherlands&rsquo; Maureen Koster in 8:27.67.
Ethiopia&rsquo;s Addisu Yihune held off the fast-finishing Birhanu Balew of Bahrain to win the 5000m, running a world-leading PB of 12:47.62 to Balew&rsquo;s Asian record of 12:47.73. Yihune, who also won the Diamond League in Xiamen, took two seconds off his previous best, which was also run in Oslo in 2024. World 10,000m bronze medallist Andreas Almgren was third in 12:48.61 and Parker Wolfe took almost 10 seconds off his PB with 12:49.45 for fourth. The top 11 dipped under 13 minutes, including Australia&rsquo;s Ky Robinson who improved the Oceanian record to 12:50.82.
Henriette J&aelig;ger delighted the home fans in the first international race of the evening, winning the 400m in a season&rsquo;s best of 49.52, just 0.03 off the PB she set when finishing third in last year&rsquo;s Diamond League final. The 2025 world indoor bronze medallist ran unchallenged, finishing clear ahead of world indoor champion Lurdes Gloria Manuel (50.13) and multiple global medallist Natalia Bukowiecka (50.34).
Australia&rsquo;s world bronze medallist Kurtis Marschall won the pole vault in Stockholm, handing Mondo Duplantis his first defeat in almost three years. Duplantis wasn&rsquo;t among his rivals in Oslo but Marschall doubled his number of career Diamond League victories, securing top spot again with a clearance of 5.82m. Norway&rsquo;s Sondre Guttormsen was second on countback with a best of 5.72m.
Former world record-holder Renaud Lavillenie became the first athlete to make 100 Diamond League appearances. The seven-time Diamond League champion, who made his series debut in 2010, finished ninth on 5.42m.
After winning in Xiamen with a Diamond League record and the second-best javelin performance in history of 71.74m, China&rsquo;s Yan Ziyi secured another win in her first Diamond League meeting outside of China. The 18-year-old threw 67.11m. from her opening attempt and that proved more than enough for victory. She followed it with 64.81m in the second round before passing her remaining attempts. Norway&rsquo;s Sigrid Borge was second with 61.92m from the fifth round.
Jamaica&rsquo;s world indoor silver medallist Jordan Scott beat the two athletes who joined him on the world indoor triple jump podium in Poland &ndash; champion Andy D&iacute;az and bronze medallist Yasser Triki &ndash; by leaping a wind-assisted 17.66m (2.6m/s). D&iacute;az was just seven centimetres off that mark and so secured second place ahead of Triki with a wind-aided 17.43m (2.4m/s).
Davisleydi Velazco soared to her first Diamond League triple jump win, leaping a wind-assisted 14.85m (2.3m/s) in the first round. World indoor bronze medallist Saly Sarr was just 10 centimetres off that mark with a wind-legal jump in the fifth round but Velazco held on to top spot as her Cuban compatriot Leyanis P&eacute;rez, the world champion, completed the top three with 14.60m (2.2m/s).

Athletissima will feature a thrilling 200m clash between Letsile Tebogo and Gout Gout at the Wanda Diamond League meeting in Lausanne on 21 August.
Tebogo lit up Lausanne&rsquo;s Pontaise Stadium two years ago with a stunning 19.64 victory. It came just two weeks after the sprinter from Botswana won the Olympic title in Paris with an African record of 19.46.
Australian teenage prodigy Gout set a world U20 record of 19.67 in April. The 18-year-old has faced Tebogo only once so far, in the semi-finals of the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, where Tebogo came out on top.
The women&rsquo;s 800m is also shaping up to be one of the highlights of the evening. Following her incredible 1:53.98 performance on Sunday in Stockholm &ndash; the third-fastest time in world history &ndash; Audrey Werro will compete in front of a home crowd with the ambition of producing another unforgettable moment.

Just three days after the action in Stockholm, athletes will want to put on a show in Oslo as the Wanda Diamond League series moves on to the Bislett Games on Wednesday (10).
Rivalries are renewed in the middle distances, while Karsten Warholm and Alison dos Santos clash in the 400m hurdles, Julien Alfred makes her Diamond League season 100m debut after her 200m win in Rome, and Gout Gout races Letsile Tebogo over half a lap.
USA&rsquo;s world indoor champion Cooper Lutkenhaus made his Diamond League debut in the 800m in Stockholm, clocking 1:42.70 &ndash; the fastest outdoor time in the world so far this year &ndash; to beat 2023 world champion Marco Arop. They clash again in Oslo and this time they are also set to face Olympic and world champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi and Max Burgin, who beat Wanyonyi to victory at the Diamond League meeting in Rabat.
Yared Nuguse is also among the global medallists doing the Scandinavian double. The Olympic bronze medallist won the 1500m from Cameron Myers and Timothy Cheruiyot in Stockholm and they all race the Dream Mile in Oslo, joined again by Narve Gilje Nord&aring;s and Hobbs Kessler. Further strengthening the field are all three members of last year&rsquo;s world 1500m podium: champion Isaac Nader, silver medallist Jake Wightman and bronze medallist Reynold Cheruiyot.
The 5000m features the four fastest men of 2025 &ndash; double Olympic medallist Grant Fisher, world 10,000m bronze medallist Andreas Almgren and last year&rsquo;s Bislett Games top two Nico Young and Biniam Mehary &ndash; against world silver medallist Isaac Kimeli, Jacob Krop and Birhanu Balew.
Ethiopia&rsquo;s Likina Amebaw and Freweyni Hailu, who won the 5000m in Rome and the 1500m in Rabat, respectively, meet in the middle when they race the 3000m in Oslo. They face world U20 champion Aleshign Baweke, who finished second between her two compatriots in Rome and fourth in the world indoor 3000m final, as well as Linden Hall, Georgia Griffith, Maureen Koster and Hannah Nuttall.
<h2>Alfred, Tebogo and Gout star in sprints</h2>
After winning the 200m in 21.93 in Rome, Saint Lucia&rsquo;s Julien Alfred races her first Diamond League 100m since winning the final last September. The Olympic champion faces world 200m silver medallist Amy Hunt and Patrizia Van der Weken, who finished second and third respectively in Stockholm, Hunt breaking 11 seconds for the first time.
Australia&rsquo;s world U20 silver medallist Gout Gout will make his senior Diamond League debut when he lines up alongside Botswana&rsquo;s Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo in the 200m in Oslo. Gout set a world U20 record of 19.67 in Sydney in April &ndash; a time that remains the fastest in the world so far this year. The 18-year-old races for the first time since then, up against Tebogo, who ran 19.96 to finish second in Rabat, plus Sinesipho Dambile, who was second in Stockholm.
The women&rsquo;s 400m features a rematch between home favourite Henriette J&aelig;ger and Czechia&rsquo;s world indoor champion Lurdes Gloria Manuel, the top two in Rome, as they take on Natalia Bukowiecka, Nickisha Pryce, Lieke Klaver and Amber Anning.
<h2>Warholm vs Dos Santos</h2>
Home star Karsten Warholm set a world 300m hurdles best when he last raced at the Bislett Games and the three-time world champion will want to return to winning ways when he lines up again at the Bislett Stadium. Norway&rsquo;s world 400m hurdles record-holder has lost twice to Brazil&rsquo;s 2022 world champion Alison dos Santos so far this year and Dos Santos backed up those performances with another win in the non-Diamond League 400m hurdles in Stockholm.
Joining them in the clash that will close the Bislett Games programme on Wednesday are two-time world bronze medallist Abderrahman Samba, Matheus Lima and Trevor Bassitt.
Emma Zapletalov&aacute; continues her campaign after setting national records to win the 400m hurdles in Rabat and Rome, clocking 52.58 at the latter. Rushell Clayton was third in both races and races again.
<h2>Marschall and Schilder seek Scandinavian double</h2>
Australia&rsquo;s world bronze medallist Kurtis Marschall won the pole vault in Stockholm, handing Mondo Duplantis his first defeat in almost three years. Duplantis won&rsquo;t be in Oslo as the world record-holder switches his focus to his wedding, but this time Marschall will star in a rematch with Emmanouil Karalis, the Greek world and Olympic medallist who sits second on the world all-time list with his 6.17m clearance from February. Karalis has cleared six metres twice already this outdoor season, but Marschall beat him in their only other Diamond League clash so far in 2026, in Shanghai. Norway&rsquo;s Sondre Guttormsen will want to impress in front of a home crowd, while the field also features Sam Kendricks and Menno Vloon.
World champion Jessica Schilder seeks her third Diamond League shot put win of the season after backing up her 21.09m Diamond League record in Shanghai with a 20.89m meeting record in Stockholm. In another clash of global champions, she faces world indoor champion Chase Jackson, two-time world indoor champion Sarah Mitton and Olympic champion Yemisi Mabry (n&eacute;e Ogunleye).
The world and Olympic champions go head-to-head in the women&rsquo;s triple jump as Leyanis P&eacute;rez takes on Thea LaFond. The men&rsquo;s event also includes a whole host of major medallists as two-time world indoor champion Andy D&iacute;az, who won in Rome, faces world champion Pedro Pichardo, making his season debut, plus Jordan Scott and Yasser Triki.
The javelin stars China&rsquo;s Yan Ziyi, who threw 71.74m in Xiamen for the second-best performance in history. This time, the 18-year-old&rsquo;s rivals will include Juleisy Angulo, competing for the first time since her world title win in Tokyo.

Stacked fields on show in Oslo

Switzerland&rsquo;s Audrey Werro stormed to third on the world 800m all-time list as she ran a Wanda Diamond League record of 1:53.98 to win a sensational race against Keely Hodgkinson at the Bauhaus-Galan in Stockholm on Sunday (7).
They pushed each other to two of the six fastest times in history, 22-year-old Werro becoming the first woman to break 1:54 in almost 43 years and Hodgkinson running a British record of 1:54.33 for the fastest ever non-winning time. USA&rsquo;s Roisin Willis was third in a PB of 1:57.56.
The target time was set at 1:54 and it was Werro who tracked the pacemaker as she reached 400m in 55.54. Hodgkinson kicked off the bend and led until the final straight but Werro, who won the Diamond League title last year, was in hot pursuit.
Werro kicked past the Olympic champion down the home straight, striding over the finish line in 1:53.98 to become just the third woman in history to break 1:54.
&ldquo;I still need to process. I am still in shock at this performance,&rdquo; said Werro. &ldquo;Today I was in great shape, I was ready mentally and physically, so it was a good day for me.&nbsp;
&ldquo;It was not my main goal to follow the pacemaker, but the race went like that. When they dropped out, I decided to follow Keely as long as possible, and I gave it everything I had. I need some time to process what just happened, but I am so happy with my time.&rdquo;
<h2>Meeting records for Schilder and Bouzayani</h2>
Two more meeting records fell in the shot put and 3000m steeplechase.&nbsp;
Dutch world champion Jessica Schilder got her second Diamond League win of the season, following her Diamond League record of 21.09m in Shanghai with a meeting record of 20.89m to triumph by almost a metre in Stockholm. After opening with 20.33m, she threw 20.89m in the fifth round to improve on the meeting record of 20.57m set by Valerie Adams in 2011.
World indoor champion Chase Jackson, fresh from a 20.66m throw to beat Schilder in Turku, finished second this time on 19.91m. Two-time world indoor champion Sarah Mitton was third in both Shanghai and Turku, and she repeated the feat in Stockholm with a best of 19.89m.

Tunisia&rsquo;s Marwa Bouzayani smashed the meeting record with 8:59.28 to secure her first Diamond League win in the 3000m steeplechase. The world fourth-place finisher showed she meant business, passing the pacemaker and running solo to reach the 1000m mark in 2:55.51. Despite that fierce start, she still managed to hold on and break nine minutes, dipping under that barrier for the third time this year &ndash; following her national record of 8:58.09 for third place in Shanghai and 8:59.25 to finish fourth in Xiamen. She won by more than 11 seconds, Elise Thorner coming through to clinch the runner-up spot in 9:11.01.
USA&rsquo;s world indoor champion Cooper Lutkenhaus impressed again to win the 800m on his Diamond League debut. The 17-year-old became the youngest winner of any event at a World Championships, indoors or out, by taking the world indoor 800m title in March. He picked up from where he left off, winning his first 800m race of the outdoor season in 1:42.70 &ndash; the fastest outdoor time in the world so far this year.
In a well-judged race, he tracked 2023 world champion Marco Arop to the home straight and then kicked past him. Arop was second in 1:43.11 and Slimane Moula was third in 1:43.41.
USA&rsquo;s Olympic bronze medallist Yared Nuguse pipped Australia&rsquo;s Cameron Myers to victory in the 1500m, edging past in the closing stages to triumph in 3:30.11. Myers settled for second in 3:30.32, while Timothy Cheruiyot was third in 3:30.67.&nbsp;The men&rsquo;s 3000m steeplechase was won by two-time Olympic champion Soufiane El Bakkali in 8:10.40.
Kenny Bednarek won his second consecutive Diamond League 200m, the US world and Olympic silver medallist following his 19.69 victory in Rabat with a clear 19.87 (1.0m/s) win in Stockholm.

USA&rsquo;s world champion Melissa Jefferson-Wooden stormed to victory in her first 100m race of the year, clocking 10.84 (0.8m/s) &ndash; her fastest ever season opener. Great Britain&rsquo;s world 200m silver medallist Amy Hunt broke 11 seconds for the first time, her 10.97 securing second place ahead of Patrizia Van der Weken (11.05).
South Africa&rsquo;s world fifth-place finisher Zakithi Nene won the 400m out of the outside lane, judging his race to perfection to hold off USA&rsquo;s Jacory Patterson &ndash; 44.48 to 44.69. Alison dos Santos led a Brazilian top two in the non-Diamond League 400m hurdles, clocking 47.11 to win ahead of Matheus Lima in a PB of 47.37.
<h2>Marschall defeats Duplantis&nbsp;</h2>
Australia&rsquo;s world bronze medallist Kurtis Marschall handed Mondo Duplantis his first defeat in almost three years in the pole vault.
Multiple world and Olympic champion Duplantis improved the world record to 6.28m on his home soil in Stockholm last year and has since taken that mark to 6.31m. But this time his best was 5.80m and so Marschall clinched his first Diamond League win with his third-time clearance of 5.90m.
After one failure each at earlier heights, both Marschall and Duplantis cleared 5.80m on their first attempts. Duplantis passed at the next height and that made the difference, as Marschall managed 5.90m on his final try. Duplantis then had two unsuccessful attempts at 6.00m, a height Marschall skipped. Duplantis used his final attempt at 6.05m and when he also knocked the bar at that height, Marschall was confirmed the winner. The Australian had two attempts himself at 6.05m and then retired with the win secured.
Duplantis had achieved a 40-final win streak since his last loss in Monaco in July 2023, those victories including five world title wins &ndash; three indoors and two outdoors &ndash; and a second Olympic title win as well as nine world records.
USA&rsquo;s world and Olympic champion Valarie Sion maintained her reign in the discus, throwing 68.60m in the second round to win by more than two metres. She backed that up with two other throws beyond 68 metres. World silver medallist Jorinde van Klinken was second with 66.57m. Sweden&rsquo;s three-time world champion Daniel St&aring;hl got a home win in the men&rsquo;s&nbsp;discus, throwing 69.60m from his single valid attempt to beat Matthew Denny (69.02m) and Kristjan Čeh (67.67m).
Hilary Kpatcha of France won the long jump by just one centimetre, leaping a wind-assisted 6.85m (2.4m/s) to beat Italy&rsquo;s Larissa Iapichino with a wind-aided 6.84m (2.1m/s).

Switzerland’s Audrey Werro stormed to third on the world 800m all-time list as she ran a Wanda Diamond League record of 1:53.98 to win a sensational race against Keely Hodgkinson

Werro goes No.3 all time with 1:53.98 800m in Stockholm

Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage produced the best javelin throw of his career to smash the Golden Gala Pietro Mennea meeting record with a world-leading 92.62m at the Wanda Diamond League meeting in Rome on Thursday (4).
The Sri Lankan opened with 84.49m &ndash; a mark that would have been good enough to win &ndash; before launching his second-round effort way beyond 90 metres. His 92.62m added more than two metres to the meeting record of 90.34m set by Andreas Thorkildsen 20 years ago, moved Pathirage to eighth on the world all-time list and made him the second-best Asian thrower in history.
It was also the best throw in the world since the 2024 Olympic final, and secured him a clear victory over two-time world champion Anderson Peters, who was second with 83.91m, and world bronze medallist Curtis Thompson, who was third with 83.89m.
&ldquo;I tried my best today to set a national record and I managed to improve it by three metres,&rdquo; said Pathirage. &ldquo;Even though I had only two valid attempts today, I am very stable mentally. It was very hot in Rabat, but the weather in Rome is good and felt like ideal conditions in which to throw far. Winning today felt like a Sri Lankan festival.&rdquo;
There was another meeting record in the men&rsquo;s 110m hurdles, where Trey Cunningham became the 29th member of the sub-13-second club.
The 2022 world silver medallist won in a world-leading PB of 12.98, breaking the meeting record set by Allen Johnson in 1999. Jamaica&rsquo;s world silver medallist Orlando Bennett was a distant second in 13.31.
&ldquo;This was a long time coming,&rdquo; said the US hurdler, who lost his luggage on the way to Rome but thankfully had an extra pair of spikes and kit in his hand luggage. &ldquo;Beating the meeting record set 27 years ago by Allen Johnson, who is an all-time great, is special.
&ldquo;I am very excited for the World Ultimate Championship,&rdquo; he added. &ldquo;It&rsquo;s going to be the 16 fastest people and only one winner. My motto this year is to enjoy what is happening right now.&rdquo;
<h2>Zapletalova and Amebaw add world leads</h2>
Emma Zapletalova improved her own world lead and Slovakian record to win the women&rsquo;s 400m hurdles in 52.58.
The world bronze medallist&rsquo;s performance moved her to third on the European all-time list, and gave her victory over Olympic silver medallist Anna Cockrell, who was second in a season&rsquo;s best of 52.77. Jamaica&rsquo;s Rushell Clayton finished third in 53.14.
Likina Amebaw led an Ethiopian sweep of the top seven places in the women&rsquo;s 5000m, winning in a world-leading PB of 14:18.41.
Amebaw improved her best by six seconds and was followed by Aleshign Baweke, who clocked 14:18.54, Freweyni Hailu, who ran 14:18.94, and Senayet Getachew, who finished fourth in 14:22.37. The top four all set PBs.
Olympic steeplechase champion Winfred Yavi had led through 3000m in 8:41.17 and continued to lead at 4000m, but faded from contention in the final kilometre. She finished eighth, though was rewarded with a Bahraini record of 14:30.06.
<h2>Olympic champions Lyles and Alfred impress in sprints</h2>
Noah Lyles produced his fastest 100m since the 2024 Olympic final, beating a quality field to win in 9.88 (0.4m/s).
The US sprinter ran out a comfortable winner as Cameroon&rsquo;s Emmanuel Eseme set a national record of 9.94 in second. Olympic 200m champion Letsile Tebogo was third in a season&rsquo;s best of 9.95, world indoor champion Jordan Anthony fourth in 9.96 and Marcell Jacobs fifth in a season&rsquo;s best of 9.99.
Julien Alfred came within 0.02 of the meeting record in the women&rsquo;s 200m, winning comfortably in 21.93.
World champion Melissa Jefferson-Wooden, contesting her first individual race since the 2025 World Championships, was second in 22.17. USA&rsquo;s Anavia Battle finished third in 22.39 and world silver medallist Amy Hunt fourth in 22.52.
Henriette Jaeger won a high-quality women&rsquo;s 400m in a season&rsquo;s best of 49.60. World indoor champion Lurdes Gloria Manuel of Czechia was second in a big PB of 49.77, her first time inside 50 seconds, while Nickisha Pryce was third in 49.80 and Aaliyah Butler fourth in 49.83.
Olympic 800m champion Keely Hodgkinson finished seventh in 51.14, improving her PB by half a second.
<h2>Fabbri and Diaz delight home crowd</h2>
Leonardo Fabbri gave the Italian crowd a popular home victory in the men&rsquo;s shot put, winning with 22.14m.
He was the only man in the field to throw beyond 22 metres, beating two-time world champion Joe Kovacs, who threw 21.87m, three-time Olympic champion Ryan Crouser, who reached 21.50m, and world indoor champion Tom Walsh, who threw 21.49m.
Andy Diaz also delivered an Italian victory, winning the men&rsquo;s triple jump in his first competition since retaining his world indoor title.
Diaz took the lead in the second round with 17.58m, then improved by one centimetre to 17.59m in round five. Jamaica&rsquo;s world leader Jordan Scott finished second with 17.33m.
Miltiadis Tentoglou appeared to have done enough to win the men&rsquo;s long jump after moving into the lead with 8.20m in the fifth round and then improving to 8.24m in the final round.
But Bulgaria&rsquo;s Bozhidar Saraboyukov produced the winning leap with the final jump of the competition, reaching 8.26m (-0.1m/s). Cuba&rsquo;s Jorge Hodelin was third with 8.18m.
The women&rsquo;s pole vault was even closer, as two-time world indoor champion Molly Caudery won on countback from Olympic champion Nina Kennedy and Switzerland&rsquo;s Angelica Moser. All three cleared 4.80m; Caudery and Kennedy managed it on their first attempts, while Moser got over on her second.
Caudery&rsquo;s British compatriot and fellow world indoor champion Georgia Hunter Bell won the women&rsquo;s 1500m comfortably in 3:58.63, ahead of Poland&rsquo;s Klaudia Kazimierska, who ran 3:59.24, and USA&rsquo;s Nikki Hiltz, who clocked 3:59.26.
Elsewhere, European champion Gabriel Tual won a close men&rsquo;s 800m in a season&rsquo;s best of 1:43.66, holding off Mark English, who was second in a season&rsquo;s best of 1:43.80. Jamaica&rsquo;s Megan Simmonds won the women&rsquo;s 100m hurdles in a season&rsquo;s best of 12.50 from USA&rsquo;s Kendra Harrison, who ran 12.54, and Nadine Visser of the Netherlands, who clocked 12.58. Italy&rsquo;s Matteo Sioli won the men&rsquo;s high jump with 2.28m.

Pathirage and Cunningham break meeting records in Rome

Mondo Duplantis will return to the scene of one of his many world record-breaking performances when he contests the pole vault at the Bauhaus-Galan in Stockholm on Sunday (7), the fifth meeting of the 2026 Wanda Diamond League.
The Swedish star cleared 6.28m at Stockholm&rsquo;s Olympic Stadium last year, adding another centimetre to his own world record. Since then, the multiple world and Olympic champion and World Athlete of the Year has taken the mark to 6.31m, also achieved on home soil in Uppsala earlier this year.
Duplantis has been undefeated for almost three years and has already added more honours to his remarkable record in 2026. After setting his latest world record in Uppsala in March, he went on to win a fourth world indoor title. He opened his outdoor campaign last month in Shanghai, winning with an outdoor world lead of 6.12m.
Stockholm will be just his second outdoor competition of the year, and he will face three other men who have already scaled 6.00m this season: world bronze medallist Kurtis Marschall of Australia, Norwegian record-holder Sondre Guttormsen and USA&rsquo;s Zachery Bradford.
<h2>Distance fields loaded with global medallists</h2>
Olympic champion Keely Hodgkinson will make her first outdoor 800m appearance of 2026. The world indoor record-holder takes on Diamond League champion Audrey Werro, who won recently in Rabat with an outdoor world lead of 1:56.56, plus 2025 world indoor champion Prudence Sekgodiso, world finalist Sage Hurta-Klecker and European bronze medallist Ana&iuml;s Bourgoin.
The men&rsquo;s 3000m steeplechase brings together the full podiums from the past three global championships. Two-time Olympic champion Soufiane El Bakkali heads to Stockholm after winning in Rabat last week in a world-leading 7:57.25, the second-fastest time of his career.
He faces world champion Geordie Beamish, world record-holder Lamecha Girma, 2023 Diamond League champion Simon Kiprop Koech, world bronze medallist Edmund Serem, Olympic silver medallist Kenneth Rooks and Olympic bronze medallist Abraham Kibiwot.
The men&rsquo;s 1500m could produce one of the races of the meeting, as a deep field takes aim at a meeting record that has stood since 1997. Hicham El Guerrouj&rsquo;s mark of 3:29.30 remains the Stockholm standard, and no one else has ever broken 3:30 at the meeting. That could change on Sunday, with world 10,000m bronze medallist Andreas Almgren among those lining up in front of a home crowd.
He will face 2019 world champion Timothy Cheruiyot, who is a three-time winner in Stockholm, world 10,000m champion Jimmy Gressier, French record-holder Azeddine Habz, world road mile champion Hobbs Kessler, Olympic bronze medallist Yared Nuguse and Australia&rsquo;s Cameron Myers, who is undefeated in eight races this year across distances from 800m to 5000m.
The men&rsquo;s 800m also has strong global pedigree, with 2023 world champion Marco Arop taking on world indoor champion Cooper Lutkenhaus, still a teenager, and world indoor bronze medallist Mohamed Attaoui.
In the women&rsquo;s 3000m steeplechase, Tunisia&rsquo;s Marwa Bouzayani, France&rsquo;s Alice Finot, USA&rsquo;s Gabrielle Jennings and Ethiopia&rsquo;s Kena Tufa are among the contenders.
<h2>Jefferson-Wooden opens 100m season</h2>
Double world champion Melissa Jefferson-Wooden will contest her first 100m of the year in Stockholm.
Three days after racing over 200m in Rome, the US sprinter faces British record-holder Dina Asher-Smith, USA&rsquo;s Jacious Sears and Italy&rsquo;s world indoor champion Zaynab Dosso.
The men&rsquo;s 400m features six sub-44 performers. Olympic silver medallist Matt Hudson-Smith, Olympic bronze medallist Muzala Samukonga, world silver medallist Jereem Richards, Diamond League champion Jacory Patterson, world indoor silver medallist Khaleb McRae and South Africa&rsquo;s Zakithi Nene all line up in a field rich in one-lap quality.
Kenny Bednarek returns to Diamond League action in the men&rsquo;s 200m after winning in Rabat in 19.69. The world and Olympic silver medallist will face world finalist Sinesipho Dimbile and Cuban record-holder Reynier Mena.
<h2>Throws fields packed with champions</h2>
With a shot put line-up that features the winners of every global championship from 2022 onwards, Valerie Adams&rsquo; meeting record of 20.57m could come under threat.
World champion Jessica Schilder, who recently broke the Diamond League record with 21.09m, takes on world indoor champion Chase Jackson, fresh from a 20.66m victory in Turku, two-time world indoor champion Sarah Mitton and Olympic champion Yemisi Mabry (nee Ogunleye).
The men&rsquo;s discus brings together 2022 world champion Kristjan Ceh, who won in Turku earlier this week, three-time world champion Daniel Stahl, Olympic bronze medallist Matthew Denny, Olympic champion Roje Stona and world bronze medallist Alex Rose.
The women&rsquo;s discus features the full podiums from the past two World Championships. World and Olympic champion Valarie Sion takes on the two women who preceded her as world champion: Laulauga Tausaga and Feng Bin. World silver medallist Jorinde van Klinken and Silinda Morales are also in the field.
Two-time world champion Malaika Mihambo heads the women&rsquo;s long jump field, where she will face Diamond League champion Larissa Iapichino, world indoor champion Agate de Sousa and 2025 world indoor champion Claire Bryant.
The non-Diamond League women&rsquo;s 1500m is led by three Ethiopian athletes who have broken four minutes this year: Birke Haylom, Worknesh Mesele and Haregeweyni Kalayu.

Duplantis returns to scene of world record in Stockholm

US sprint stars Melissa Jefferson-Wooden and Noah Lyles are among the global gold medallists who will kick off their Wanda Diamond League campaign at the Golden Gala Pietro Mennea in Rome on Thursday (4).
After stops in Shanghai, Xiamen and Rabat, Rome hosts the fourth Diamond League meeting of the season &ndash; the first of five Diamond League events taking place throughout June.
Rome promises fireworks and Lyles will want to put on a show when he races in the final event on the programme.
The 100m features a clash of Olympic champions as Lyles, who won the 100m in Paris, renews his rivalry with Botswana&rsquo;s Letsile Tebogo, the 200m champion in the French capital.
Lyles clocked 9.95 to win at the Tokyo Continental Tour Gold meeting last month, while Tebogo will want to build on his runner-up finish over 200m in Rabat after finishing eighth in the 100m in Xiamen.
But it won&rsquo;t only be a two-athlete battle as the field also features USA&rsquo;s world indoor 60m champion Jordan Anthony, who has run 9.91 so far this season, as well as Akani Simbine, Ackeem Blake, Ferdinand Omanyala and home favourite Marcell Jacobs.
Jefferson-Wooden is not easing herself in gently as she makes her individual season debut in the 200m against world leader Julien Alfred, who ran 21.86 in Texas in April. It is the first time the two global champions have gone head-to-head over half a lap.
Jefferson-Wooden achieved a sprint treble at the World Championships in Tokyo in September, adding 100m, 200m and 4x100m titles to the Olympic 4x100m gold and 100m bronze she secured in Paris.
Saint Lucia&rsquo;s Alfred topped that Olympic 100m podium and then got world 100m bronze behind Jefferson-Wooden in Tokyo. Great Britain&rsquo;s Amy Hunt is another world medallist in action as the top two from the 200m in Tokyo clash again. Hunt&rsquo;s compatriot Dina Asher-Smith, the 2019 world champion, joins the race along with USA&rsquo;s Anavia Battle and Nigeria&rsquo;s Favour Ofili.
The 400m features Great Britain&rsquo;s Olympic 800m champion Keely Hodgkinson as she tests herself over one lap. The 24-year-old opens her outdoor season, in her first race since winning the world indoor 800m title at the end of a short track campaign that included a world record in the 800m and a PB of 51.49 in the 400m.
Making her Diamond League 400m debut, she races specialists Natalia Bukowiecka, Lurdes Gloria Manuel, Henriette J&aelig;ger and Lieke Klaver. Poland&rsquo;s Olympic bronze medallist Bukowiecka opened her 400m season with a win in Bydgoszcz on Friday after getting world indoor silver between Manuel and Klaver in Toruń. Manuel, Klaver and 2025 world indoor bronze medallist J&aelig;ger all contest their first outdoor 400m race of the season.
Former world record-holder Kendra Harrison faces two-time world champion Danielle Williams, Nadine Visser and Pia Skrzyszowska in the 100m hurdles, while the 110m hurdles pits the in-form Jamal Britt, who won in Shanghai and Xiamen, against Rachid Muratake and Trey Cunningham in his first race since getting world indoor bronze.
Emma Zapletalov&aacute; and Anna Cockrell race the 400m hurdles again after battling for the victory &ndash; narrowly claimed by Zapletalov&aacute; &ndash; in Rabat.
<h2>Big shots in the field</h2>
USA&rsquo;s two-time world shot put champion Joe Kovacs, home star Leonardo Fabbri and Jamaica&rsquo;s Olympic bronze medallist Rajindra Campbell have all surpassed 22 metres outdoors already this year and they will battle for top spot in Rome. Kovacs threw a world lead of 22.58m to beat world record-holder and multiple global champion Ryan Crouser in Rabat and they renew their rivalry as part of a stacked field that also features all thee medallists from this year&rsquo;s World Indoor Championships: Tom Walsh, Jordan Geist and Roger Steen.
This year&rsquo;s javelin top two &ndash; world leader Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage of Sri Lanka and Grenada&rsquo;s Anderson Peters &ndash; switched that order in Rabat, where Peters won by just 11 centimetres. They go again in Rome, joined by Julius Yego, Keshorn Walcott and Jakub Vadlejch.
Australia&rsquo;s Olympic champion Nina Kennedy will want to build on her 4.80m pole vault victory in Rabat &ndash; her first Diamond League event since 2024. She again faces Angelica Moser, Molly Caudery and Sandi Morris.
Ukraine&rsquo;s Oleh Doroshchuk is another athlete competing for the first time since the World Indoor Championships and all three medallists are in action as champion Doroshchuk is joined by Mexico&rsquo;s Erick Portillo and Jamaica&rsquo;s Raymond Richards. The full world indoor podium features in the men&rsquo;s triple jump, too, as home star Andy D&iacute;az Hern&aacute;ndez takes on Jordan Scott and Yasser Mohammed Triki.
Milti&aacute;dis Tent&oacute;glou leads the long jump field after his 8.49m leap in Limassol but fans won&rsquo;t get to see him renew his rivalry with home star Mattia Furlani after the world champion sustained an injury in Xiamen.
The home crowd will have Nadia Battocletti to cheer in the 5000m, however, as the double world medallist returns to the scene of her 14:23.15 national record. She achieved that when finishing third behind Beatrice Chebet and Freweyni Hailu last year and Hailu also returns.
Ethiopia&rsquo;s Birke Haylom and Australia&rsquo;s Abbey Caldwell have one 1500m win apiece following their victories in Shanghai and Xiamen, respectively, and they clash again in Rome.
