Fields full of global champions,&nbsp;world record-holders&nbsp;and top-class clashes will feature at the Herculis EBS &ndash; the penultimate Wanda Diamond League meeting before the Paris 2024 Olympic Games &ndash; in Monaco on Friday (12).
Just five days on from the Diamond League meeting in the French capital, where <a href="https://worldathletics.org/competitions/diamond-league/news/meeting-de-paris-diamond-league-2024-world-record" target="_blank" rel="noopener">world records by Yaroslava Mahuchikh and Faith Kipyegon were among the performances that lit up the Stade Charlety</a>, some of the sport&rsquo;s biggest stars head to the Stade Louis II where they will be looking to make some statements of their own.
The top three on the world all-time list &ndash; Norway's world record-holder Karsten Warholm, USA's Rai Benjamin and&nbsp;Brazil&rsquo;s Alison dos Santos&nbsp;&ndash; all clash in the men's 400m hurdles. It's the first time the trio will meet since the Diamond League final in Eugene last year, won by&nbsp;Benjamin in 46.39 ahead of Warholm, and should prove to be a perfect Paris Olympics preview.
Olympic and world champion&nbsp;Warholm set a meeting record &ndash; which at that time was also a Diamond League record &ndash; when winning in Monaco in 46.51 last year. The&nbsp;2022 world gold medallist&nbsp;Dos Santos was second on that occasion but he is unbeaten in his specialist event so far this year, with all those victories coming on the Diamond League stage &ndash; in Doha, Stockholm, Paris and Oslo, where he beat Warholm. For Olympic silver medallist Benjamin, this is a first Diamond League event of the year following his wins in Los Angeles in May and at the US Olympic trials in a world-leading 46.46.
It was in Monaco's mile last year that Kipyegon set another of her world records, at a meeting that has become known as a middle-distance mecca. This year&rsquo;s programme includes the men&rsquo;s 800m and after the world all-time list was subject to serious revision in Paris, Monaco offers a rematch.
Kenya&rsquo;s Emmanuel Wanyonyi became the then third-fastest 800m runner in history at the Kenyan Olympic trials in Nairobi last month, running 1:41.70 to put him behind only world record-holder David Rudisha (1:40.91) and Wilson Kipketer (1:41.11). He went even faster in Paris with 1:41.58, but remarkably that wasn&rsquo;t enough to win the race and he was even almost pipped into third. Algeria&rsquo;s Djamel Sedjati ran 1:41.56 and Gabriel Tual of France clocked 1:41.61 in a race of historic depth, and Sedjati, Wanyonyi and Tual now respectively sit third, fourth and fifth on the world all-time list.
While&nbsp;Wanyonyi is no longer among the entries, Sedjati and Tual clash again in Monaco and this time they are joined by Canada&rsquo;s Marco Arop, who got world gold in Budapest last year. After winning at the Diamond League meeting in Xiamen and at the Canadian Championships, and with his place for the Olympic Games now secured, Arop will be looking for another strong run as he takes on a field that also features world bronze medallist Ben Pattison, Benjamin Robert and Andreas Kramer, who improved his Swedish record in Paris. The meeting record stands at 1:41.98.

Australia&rsquo;s Jessica Hull was another of the stars of Paris as she set an Oceanian 1500m record of 3:50.83 when finishing second behind Kipyegon&rsquo;s world record, becoming the fifth-fastest of all time. Hull will take on the 2000m in Monaco against athletes including Ethiopia&rsquo;s two-time world indoor silver medallist Axumawit Embaye, Kenya&rsquo;s Edinah Jebitok and Ciara Mageean, who will be back on the track on which she set her Irish record when finishing second behind Kipyegon&rsquo;s world mile record last year.
In the men&rsquo;s 1500m, Olympic champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen will also be looking for a pre-Paris boost as he follows his 1500m and 5000m golden doubles at the European Championships and Norwegian Championships by contesting the shorter event back on the Diamond League stage.&nbsp;
He won the 1500m in Oslo in a world-leading 3:29.74 ahead of Kenya&rsquo;s Olympic silver medallist Timothy Cheruiyot and Azeddine Habz of France at the end of May and the trio meet again in Monaco, where they will also face USA&rsquo;s Yared Nuguse, Norway&rsquo;s Narve Gilje Nordas and Niels Laros of the Netherlands, who set a world U20 1000m record in Hengelo on Sunday.
The women&rsquo;s 5000m features Ethiopia&rsquo;s Tsigie Gebreselama, who won in Eugene in a world-leading 14:18.76, against her compatriots Marta Alemayo, Likina Amebaw and Aynadis Mebratu, plus Nadia Battocletti, who set an Italian record of 14:35.29 to win the European title as part of a 5000m and 10,000m double.
<h2>Top track match-ups</h2>
In the 110m hurdles, USA's three-time world champion Grant Holloway returns to the Diamond League for the first time since his win in Eugene in May. He&nbsp;will want to maintain his unbeaten streak this season but Jamaican champion Rasheed Broadbell and Sasha Zhoya of France &ndash; who equalled his PB of 13.15 to win in Paris &ndash; will also be on the hunt for confidence-boosting performances. USA's Trey Cunningham adds further strength to the field.
Holloway, who set a world lead of 12.86 at the end of last month, won in Monaco in 12.99 in 2022 and the meeting record of 12.92 set by Aries Merritt in 2012 could be within reach.
The women&rsquo;s 100m is the final track event on the programme and another top-quality field will be looking to ensure things end on a high. Saint Lucia&rsquo;s world indoor 60m champion Julien Alfred, who ran a national record of 10.78 in Kingston last month, lines up alongside USA&rsquo;s Tamari Davis, Britain&rsquo;s Dina Asher-Smith and Marie-Josee Ta Lou of Cote d&rsquo;Ivoire.
Botswana&rsquo;s world bronze medallist Letsile Tebogo, who ran 19.71 in Nairobi in April, tops the entry list for a men's 200m no longer featuring six-time world gold medallist Noah Lyles. He takes on Uganda's Tarsis Orogot, who set a national record of 19.75 in Gainesville in May, and Dominican Republic's Alexander Ogando.
Rhasidat Adeleke, who improved the Irish 400m record to 49.07 at the European Championships, takes on USA&rsquo;s Kendall Ellis, Alexis Holmes and Shamier Little, plus Lieke Klaver of the Netherlands, over one lap.
In the men&rsquo;s race, Canada&rsquo;s 19-year-old Christopher Morales Williams &ndash; who ran the fastest ever indoor 400m back in February &ndash; makes his Diamond League debut as part of a field that features USA's Quincy Hall and Vernon Norwood, plus Bayapo Ndori of Botswana.
<h2>World champions collide</h2>
Another great clash comes in the women&rsquo;s pole vault, where world champions Nina Kennedy, Katie Moon and Molly Caudery all compete.

Australia&rsquo;s Kennedy and USA&rsquo;s Moon shared world gold in Budapest last year, while Britain&rsquo;s Caudery vaulted to the world indoor title in March, and it&rsquo;s Caudery who leads the world top list so far this season thanks to the national record of 4.92m she set in Toulouse last month. Moon is just behind her on 4.85m, while Kennedy has cleared 4.80m this year. Joining them in the field are Switzerland's Angelica Moser and Canada's Alysha Newman.
World leader Gianmarco Tamberi is among the entries for the high jump, alongside world indoor champion Hamish Kerr, 2022 world indoor gold medallist Woo Sanghyeok and world silver medallist JuVaughn Harrison. Italy&rsquo;s Olympic and world champion Tamberi cleared 2.37m in Rome last month but decided not to jump at his most recent competition in Szekesfehervar on Tuesday as a precaution.
In the women&rsquo;s triple jump, Dominica&rsquo;s world leader Thea LaFond, who leapt 15.01m to win the world indoor title in Glasgow, will go up against Spain&rsquo;s Olympic bronze medallist Ana Peleteiro-Compaore, who jumped 14.85m to win the European title, plus Leyanis Perez Hernandez, Shanieka Ricketts and Maryna Bekh-Romanchuk, making her season debut in the discipline.&nbsp;
The women&rsquo;s javelin kicks off Friday&rsquo;s competition and pits Japan's world champion Haruka Kitaguchi against world bronze medallist Mackenzie Little and European champion Victoria Hudson.

Fields full of global champions, world record-holders and top-class clashes will feature at the Herculis EBS in Monaco on Friday

Rematches and global champions on show in Monaco

World champions Yaroslava Mahuchikh and Faith Kipyegon produced world-record-breaking performances* within an hour of each other at the Meeting de Paris &ndash; part of the Wanda Diamond League &ndash; on Sunday (7).
Mahuchikh took down one of the longest-standing world records on the books, clearing 2.10m to win the high jump. Kipyegon, meanwhile, revised her own world record with 3:49.04 in the 1500m in what turned out to be one of the deepest races of all time.
Ukrainian high jumper Mahuchikh saw off the challenge of world indoor champion Nicola Olyaslagers, who had matched Mahuchikh at 2.01m, both women clearing it on their second attempts. Australia&rsquo;s Olyslagers failed three times at 2.03m, but Mahuchikh got over it on her second try.
With victory secured, Mahuchikh moved the bar up to 2.07m and once again cleared it on her second jump, doing so with room to spare to set a Ukrainian record. She then had the bar raised to 2.10m &ndash; one centimetre higher than the world record set by Stefka Kostadinova at the 1987 World Championships &ndash; and cleared it on her first try.
&ldquo;Coming into this competition, I had feelings that I could jump 2.07m and maybe 2.10m,&rdquo; said Mahuchikh. &ldquo;Finally I signed Ukraine to the history of world athletics.&rdquo;
Less than an hour after Mahuchikh&rsquo;s iconic leap, Kipyegon made history on the track.
Returning to the scene of her record-breaking mark over 5000m last year, Kipyegon broke her own world 1500m record in the final race of the evening.
The early pace was swift, with Kipyegon covering 800m in 2:04 as Australia&rsquo;s Jess Hull positioned herself just a stride behind the multiple world and Olympic champion. With the pacemakers having dropped out, Kipyegon covered the third lap in 60.8 seconds and continued to increase her pace.
She kicked at the bell and opened up a gap over Hull, striding clear to win in 3:49.04, taking 0.07 off the world record she set last year in Florence. Hull finished second in 3:50.83, smashing her own Oceanian record to move to fifth on the world all-time list. Laura Muir was third in a British record of 3:53.79, and for the first time ever, 12 women finished inside four minutes.
&ldquo;I knew the world record was possible because I recently ran very fast in Kenya,&rdquo; said Kipyegon, who clocked 3:53.98 at Kenya&rsquo;s Olympic Trials. &ldquo;I was coming here to just run my race and to see what shape I&rsquo;m in to defend my title at the Olympics.&rdquo;

<h2>Djamel wins 800m of historic depth, leading three men under 1:42</h2>
Djamel Sedjati and Emmannuel Wanyonyi both arrived in Paris unbeaten in 800m finals this year, while Gabriel Tual had won the European title and clocked a PB to win the French title last weekend. But Wanyonyi was coming off the back of a world-leading 1:41.70 win at the Kenyan Olympic Trials, so was considered the man to beat.
The pacemaker had been instructed to cover the first lap in 49.60, so when he hit the half-way mark in 48.79 it appeared as though the tempo may have been a bit too ambitious. But Wanyonyi, Wyclife Kinyamal, Sedjati and Tual were all still in close contention as the pack headed down the back straight for the final time.
Wanyonyi led through the final bend with Sedjati on his shoulder, while Tual moved into third with 100 metres to go. Sedjati then used his trademark kick to pull ahead of Wanyonyi; the teenager tried to respond and managed to close some of the gap, while Tual was also closing fast on the outside, but Sedjati held them off to win in a world-leading national record of 1:41.56.
Wanyonyi was a close second in 1:41.58, revising his recent PB, while Tual took third in a French record of 1:41.61. It was the first time in history that three men have broken 1:42 in the same race; it&rsquo;s also the first time that six men have finished inside 1:43.
&ldquo;I&rsquo;m satisfied with my race and I&rsquo;m confident that I&rsquo;ll prepare well for the Olympic Games in Paris in the coming weeks,&rdquo; said Sedjati, who came within 0.02 of the meeting record set by David Rudisha back in 2012, just a few weeks before he struck Olympic gold with a world record. &ldquo;I know I can do even better there.&rdquo;
<h2>Global champions triumph</h2>
There was almost a second vertical jumps world record in Paris as Mondo Duplantis took aim at 6.25m in the men&rsquo;s pole vault.
The world and Olympic champion had the competition won at 6.00m, getting over it on his second try while two-time world champion Sam Kendricks bowed out with three misses, having equalled his season&rsquo;s best of 5.95m. Duplantis then raised the bar to 6.25m, a centimetre higher than the world record he set in Xiamen earlier this year. His third attempt was his closest, but it was not to be today.
World steeplechase champion Winfred Yavi returned to winning ways in what was just her second race over the barriers this year. The Bahraini runner won in 9:03.68, while European champion Alice Finot broke her own French record with 9:05.01 in second place, much to the delight of the home crowd. Britain&rsquo;s Elizabeth Bird was third in 9:09.07, while world record-holder Beatrice Chepkoech faded to ninth in the closing stages.
World champion Marileidy Paulino came within 0.08 of the meeting record she set last year, winning the women&rsquo;s 400m in a season&rsquo;s best of 49.20. European champion Natalia Kaczmarek came through to take second place in 49.82, while 2019 world champion Salwa Eid Naser recorded the same time in third.
Olympic champion Valarie Allman extended her winning streak in the discus, winning with a final-round effort of 68.07m. Dutch duo Jorinde van Klinken (67.23m) and Alida van Daalen (65.78m) were second and third respectively.
<h2>Competitive contests over the barriers</h2>
In one of the closest races of the day, Ethiopia&rsquo;s Abrham Sime held off Kenya&rsquo;s Amos Serem to win the steeplechase by two thousandths of a second, both men recording PBs of 8:02.36.
Abraham Kibiwot was third in a season&rsquo;s best (8:06.70), and there were national records for Tunisia&rsquo;s Mohamed Amin Jhinaoui (8:09.41), New Zealand&rsquo;s Geordie Beamish (8:09.64, also an Oceania record) and India&rsquo;s Avinash Sable (8:09.91).
The men&rsquo;s 110m hurdles was similarly close. Sasha Zhoya scraped through the heats, making it into the final by a thousandth of a second, but then went on to win the final in an equal PB of 13.15 (-0.6m/s). USA&rsquo;s Trey Cunningham was given the same time in second place, just five thousandths of a second behind, and Japan&rsquo;s Shunsuke Izumiya was third in 13.16, matching the time he ran in the heats.
Rachid Muratake had won the first heat in 13.15, but was a late non-starter for the final after picking up an injury in his warm-up.
The men&rsquo;s 400m hurdles was also much closer than expected. 2022 world champion Alison dos Santos emerged victorious in 47.78, but the Brazilian was just 0.17 ahead of Estonia&rsquo;s Rasmus Magi, who took second place in a season&rsquo;s best of 47.95.
Elsewhere on the track, Jacob Krop clocked a world-leading 7:28.83 to win a non-scoring men&rsquo;s 3000m. Alexander Ogando won the men&rsquo;s 200m in 19.98, while Luxembourg&rsquo;s Patrizia van der Weken took the women&rsquo;s 100m in 11.06.
Earlier in the afternoon, 2022 world champion and world leader Brooke Andersen gained redemption of sorts after missing out on making the US team for the Olympics, winning the hammer with a meeting record of 73.27m. Five-time world champion Pawel Fajdek took the men&rsquo;s event with 77.13m, gaining another confidence-boosting victory over defending Olympic champion Wojciech Nowicki (75.17m).
Elsewhere in the field events, Julian Weber won the men&rsquo;s javelin with 85.91m and Italy&rsquo;s Larissa Iapichino took the women&rsquo;s long jump with 6.82m.
It was a frustrating day for decathlon world record-holder Kevin Mayer, who was competing in a combined events triathlon. He produced the best mark of the day in the shot put (15.12m), then skipped the long jump and crashed out of the hurdles, screaming in frustration and pain as he laid face-down on the track. Although he got up and walked away, it wasn&rsquo;t the performance he&rsquo;d have been looking for just a few weeks out from the Paris 2024 Olympics, for which he is one of the host nation&rsquo;s top hopes of a medal.

Mahuchikh and Kipyegon break world records in Paris

The Wanda Diamond League <a href="https://worldathletics.org/competitions/diamond-league/news/meeting-de-paris-2024-kipyegon-duplantis" target="_blank" rel="noopener">continues on Sunday (7) in Paris with the eighth meeting of the season</a>.
Kenyan distance star Faith Kipyegon launches her 2024 Wanda Diamond League campaign in the 1500m as she joins fellow world and Diamond League champions Mondo Duplantis, Marileidy Paulino and Yaroslava Mahuchikh at the Meeting de Paris.&nbsp;
The action will start at 14:35 local time (GMT+2) with the women's high jump and the main two-hour broadcast window will begin at 16:00 local time with the men's 400m hurdles.

The Wanda Diamond League continues on Sunday (7) in Paris with the eighth meeting of the season

How to watch and follow the Wanda Diamond League meeting in Paris

World record-holders Faith Kipyegon and Mondo Duplantis are among the star athletes who&rsquo;ll be in action at the Meeting de Paris on Sunday (7), the first Wanda Diamond League meeting since the Olympic qualifying window closed.
The significance of the timing and location of the meeting will not be lost on the athletes competing at the Stade Charlety on Sunday. Many of them will return to the French capital in less than a month for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games; for the no.1 sport on the world&rsquo;s biggest stage, there is no better dress rehearsal.
Suitably, the fields are loaded with talent.
When Kipyegon last competed on this track, she made history by breaking the world 5000m record. She went on to win the 1500m and 5000m double at the World Championships in Budapest, then wrapped up her 2023 campaign by racing at the World Road Running Championships in Riga on 1 October.
The 30-year-old Kenyan didn&rsquo;t race again until just a few weeks ago, but she showed no signs of rust at the Kenyan Olympic Trials as she won the 5000m (14:46.28) and 1500m (3:53.98) on back-to-back days, recording the fastest ever times at altitude for the two distances.
One year on from her record-breaking feats in Paris, Kipyegon will switch back to her main discipline, the 1500m, on Sunday and will take on a field that includes world indoor champion Freweyni Hailu, European champion Ciara Mageean, Olympic silver medallist Laura Muir and Oceanian record-holder Jess Hull.
The men&rsquo;s pole vault features arguably one of the highest-quality fields of the competition. Not only does it feature Duplantis, the world indoor and outdoor champion who earlier this year increased his world record to 6.24m; it includes every medallist from the past four editions of the World Championships, and contains seven members of the elusive six-metre club.

Duplantis, who has won all of his competitions this outdoor season with vaults of 6.00m or higher, set the meeting record of 6.01m when he last competed here in 2021. He&rsquo;ll be keen to improve on that as he builds towards the defence of his Olympic title while also trying to hold off the challenge of world silver medallist Ernest John Obiena, European silver medallist Emmanouil Karalis, two-time world champion Sam Kendricks, North American record-holder KC Lightfoot, Olympic silver medallist Chris Nilsen, world bronze medallist Kurtis Marschall, former world record-holder Renaud Lavillenie and French champion Thibaut Collet.
<h2>Wanyonyi looks to extend winning streak</h2>
Like his Kenyan compatriot Kipyegon, Emmanuel Wanyonyi has fond memories of Paris, having won the 800m last year in a then PB of 1:43.27.
The teenager went on to take world silver in Budapest, and since then he has been undefeated, notching up wins in Xiamen, Eugene, Nairobi and Marrakech. In his most recent outing, he won at the Kenyan Olympic Trials in 1:41.70, elevating him to third on the world all-time list.
Two-time Commonwealth champion Wyclife Kinyamal, who finished second at the Kenyan Trials in a PB of 1:42.50, will also be in Paris, as will newly crowned European champion Gabriel Tual, 2022 world silver medallist Djamel Sedjati and world indoor silver medallist Andreas Kramer.
One year on from a world record-breaking performance in the discipline, Stade Charlety will play host to two steeplechase races on Sunday.
In the women&rsquo;s event, world champion Winfred Yavi takes on world record-holder Beatrice Chepkoech. Yavi has contested just one steeplechase race this year, clocking 9:21.62 in Eugene in May, but since then she has reduced her 5000m PB to 14:41.99. Chepkoech has also displayed good form, clocking 8:55.40 in Xiamen and setting a 1500m PB of 3:59.73.
Commonwealth champion Jackline Chepkoech, European champion Alice Finot and USA&rsquo;s Gabrielle Jennings are also in the field.
The men&rsquo;s race features world bronze medallist Abraham Kibiwot, African Games silver medallist Amos Serem, Japanese record-holder Ryuji Miura, world indoor 1500m champion Geordie Beamish, and in-form Tunisian Mohamed Amine Jihnaoui.
<h2>Global champions clash on the field</h2>
Numerous winners of world and Olympic medals will feature in the field events in Paris.
In the women&rsquo;s high jump, world champion Yaroslava Mahuchikh takes on world indoor champion Nicola Olyslagers, 2022 world champion Eleanor Patterson, European silver medallist Angelina Topic and Olympic heptathlon champion Nafi Thiam.

Olympic champion Malaika Mihambo clashes with world champion Ivana Spanovic in the women&rsquo;s long jump, while Olympic champion Valarie Allman lines up alongside multiple global champion Sandra Elkasevic in the women&rsquo;s discus.
In the men&rsquo;s javelin, the winners of the past two European titles &ndash; Jakub Vadlejch and Julian Weber &ndash; take on two-time world champion Anderson Peters and world silver medallist Arshad Nadeem.
<h2>Paulino and Dos Santos feature in one-lap showdowns</h2>
World 400m champion Marileidy Paulino will aim to continue her winning streak in Paris, but may need to improve on her season&rsquo;s best of 49.30 if she is to beat world silver medallist Natalia Kaczmarek, who won the European title last month in a Polish record of 48.98. USA&rsquo;s Alexis Holmes and world indoor silver medallist Lieke Klaver, both sub-50-second performers, are also in the line-up.
Like Paulino, 2022 world 400m hurdles champion Alison dos Santos is undefeated this year in his specialist event. The Brazilian, who has a best this year of 46.63, will have one eye on the meeting record of 46.98 as he takes on Jamaican champion Malik James-King and Sweden&rsquo;s Carl Bengstrom, both of whom have broken 48 seconds this year.
A competitive men&rsquo;s 110m hurdles field includes European champion Lorenzo Simonelli, French champion Sasha Zhoya, USA&rsquo;s Cordell Tinch, Japanese record-holder Rachid Muratake, Spain&rsquo;s Enrique Llopis, and 2022 world silver medallist Trey Cunningham.
Elsewhere in the sprints, world indoor medallists Ewa Swoboda and Zaynab Dosso take on 2022 world indoor champion Mujinga Kambundji, Gemima Joseph and Gina Bass Bittaye in the women&rsquo;s 100m. The men&rsquo;s 200m, meanwhile, features NCAA champion Cheickna Traore, Tarsis Orogot and France&rsquo;s Pablo Mateo.&nbsp;
Non-scoring &ndash; but highly competitive &ndash; men&rsquo;s and women&rsquo;s hammer contests will be held as a joint competition. The men&rsquo;s line-up includes five-time world champion Pawel Fajdek, Olympic champion Wojciech Nowicki, European silver medallist Bence Halasz and Ukraine&rsquo;s Mykhaylo Kokhan.
The women&rsquo;s line-up features 2022 world champion Brooke Andersen, world silver medallist Janee Kassanavoid and European bronze medallist Rose Loga.
And last &ndash; but definitely not least, certainly in the eyes of the home fans &ndash; decathlon world record-holder Kevin Mayer will compete in a combined events &lsquo;triathlon&rsquo; alongside Finley Gaio and Jente Hauttekeete, among others.

World-leading marks from Lamecha Girma and Djamel Sedjati, plus three close attempts at a world record from Mondo Duplantis, were the highlights of the Bauhas Galan &ndash; a Wanda Diamond League meeting &ndash; in Stockholm on Sunday (2).
Girma, who has already set PBs of 3:53.82 in the mile and 12:58.96 over 5000m this season, was contesting his first steeplechase race of 2024 and was keen to send a clear message to arch rival Soufiane El Bakkali, the world and Olympic champion.
In fact, he may have started off a bit too keen, as the early pace (2:36.44 for 1000m) was well inside world record schedule. The tempo eased, though, as the race went on with Girma&rsquo;s fellow Ethiopians Samuel Firewu and Getnet Wale following him through 2000m in 5:18.27.
Girma started to tire slightly on the final lap, but he&rsquo;d already done enough to build up a comfortable leading margin over Firewu. The world record-holder went on to win by more than four seconds in a world-leading 8:01.63 &ndash; almost eight seconds faster than El Bakkali&rsquo;s winning mark in Marrakech last month.
Firewu followed in a PB of 8:05.78 and Tunisia&rsquo;s Mohamed Amin Jhinaoui set a national record of 8:10.41 in third.
Another world lead came at the end of the evening as Algeria&rsquo;s Djamel Sedjati ran away from the field to win the men&rsquo;s 800m.

The 2022 world silver medallist positioned himself towards the back of the pack for the first lap as world bronze medallist Ben Pattison tracked the pacemaker in 50.7. Pattison held the lead up to 600m, by which time Sedjati had moved into second. Sedjati hit top gear as he came off the final bend, then opened up a significant gap to win in 1:43.23.
World indoor champion Bryce Hoppel came through to take second place in 1:44.29 with Tshepiso Masalela finishing just ahead of Pattison, both clocking 1:44.44.
He may not have set a world record this evening, but Duplantis&rsquo;s attempts at 6.25m in the men&rsquo;s pole vault suggests his next world record could be just around the corner.
The Swedish vaulter enjoyed first-time clearances at 5.60m, 5.80m and 5.90m to hold the lead throughout. By that time, Sam Kendricks was the only other man left in the competition, but he exited with three misses at 6.00m.
Duplantis, meanwhile, once again got over it on his first try, and then moved the bar up to the world record height. His first attempt was solid; his next two were even better. But it will no doubt give him much motivation as he heads into the European Championships and then the Olympic Games in Paris.

There was also an outdoor world lead in a competitive 3000m flat. World 1500m bronze medallist Narve Gilje Nordas timed his kick well on the final lap to overtake Dominic Lokinyomo Lobalu on the home straight and win by 0.19 in a PB of 7:33.49. Behind them, there were national records for Sweden&rsquo;s Andreas Almgren, Djibouti&rsquo;s Mohamed Ismail and South Africa&rsquo;s Adriaan Wildschutt.
<h2>Dos Santos and Bol win again in Stockholm</h2>
One-lap hurdling duo Alison Dos Santos and Femke Bol extended their winning streaks in the Swedish city, notching up their third and fourth wins respectively in Stockholm&rsquo;s Olympic Stadium.
Three days after his narrow win over world record-holder Karsten Warholm in Oslo, Alison Dos Santos enjoyed an easier path to victory in Stockholm as he won the men&rsquo;s 400m hurdles by more than a second.
The 2022 world champion from Brazil eased away from world silver medallist Kyron McMaster over the final 150 metres to win in 47.01 &ndash; just 0.21 shy of his own meeting record &ndash; as McMaster crossed the line in second in a season&rsquo;s best of 48.05. Dos Santos now owns three of the four fastest times achieved in the 400m hurdles on this track.
Bol was contesting her first 400m hurdles race of the year, which may explain why it took a while for the Dutch hurdler to move into the lead. But once she got there in the home straight, she pulled away from Jamaican trio Rushell Clayton, Andrenette Knight and Janieve Russell to win in 53.07.
Clayton finished second in 53.78, while Knight and Russell set season&rsquo;s bests of 54.62 and 54.99 respectively.

Olympic silver medallist Laura Muir enjoyed a confidence-boosting win in the 1500m ahead of the European Championships.
Once the field had been paced through 800m in 2:07, Ethiopian youngster Birke Haylom was in control of the race. But Muir, Australia&rsquo;s Georgia Griffith and Kenya&rsquo;s Edinah Jebitok moved in on Haylom&rsquo;s shoulder with 250 metres to go, then Muir burst into the lead with half a lap to go.
The Briton kicked hard and pulled away to win in 3:57.99 &ndash; just 0.35 shy of Gudaf Tsegay&rsquo;s meeting record &ndash; with Jebitok smashing through the four-minute mark for the first time in her career to finish second in 3:58.88. Griffith (3:59.17) and Haylom (3:59.84) also finished inside four minutes.
Earlier in the afternoon, Muir&rsquo;s compatriot Jemma Reekie dominated the non-scoring women&rsquo;s 800m to win in 1:57.79 from Kenya&rsquo;s Vivian Chebet (1:58.64).
<h2>Wins for world champions Jackson, Mahuchikh and Jackson</h2>
Jamaican 200m runner Shericka Jackson, Ukrainian high jumper Yaroslava Mahuchikh and US shot putter Chase Jackson won their respective disciplines.
Jackson&rsquo;s winning mark of 22.69 may be more than a second shy of her lifetime best, but the -2.0m/s headwind suggests there's more to come. And, crucially, the manner of her victory would have given the two-time world champion some much-needed confidence after she lost her two-year winning streak in Oslo earlier this week.
She came off the bend with a clear lead and continued to pull away from the field. Sweden&rsquo;s Julia Henriksson came through to take second place in 22.89.
Mahuchikh was put under slight pressure in the early stages of the high jump by Germany&rsquo;s Imke Onnen, who topped out at 1.94m. Onnen then failed at 1.97m, while Mahuchikh got over it on her third try, then went on to clear 2.00m on her second attempt, winning what was her first outdoor competition of the year.
In a close shot put contest, Jackson got the better of world leader and world indoor champion Sarah Mitton, who took an early lead with 19.33m. Jackson responded in the second round with 20.00m, and Mitton improved to 19.98m but neither woman went any further. European champion Jessica Schilder was third with 19.08m.
World record-holder Mykolas Alekna made it six wins out of six starts this year in the discus. The Lithuanian got off to a modest start, but then unleashed a throw of 68.64m in the third round to move into pole position.
He stayed there for the rest of the evening, as Australia&rsquo;s Matt Denny finished second with 66.75m, moving ahead of world and Olympic champion Daniel Stahl (66.10m) in the final round.
World indoor silver medallist Leyanis Perez-Hernandez continued her unbeaten streak this outdoor season in the triple jump, bounding out to a season&rsquo;s best of 14.67m (1.4m/s) in round three to finish ahead of Jamaica&rsquo;s Shanieka Ricketts (14.40m) and world indoor champion Thea Lafond (14.26m).
In a close women&rsquo;s 100m, African Games champion Gina Bass got off to the best start and held off a strong challenge from Marie Josee Ta Lou-Smith to win it on the dip in 11.15 (-0.8m/s). Ta Lou-Smth was just 0.01 behind with Brittany Brown taking third (11.18).
Similarly, just 0.03 separated the top three finishers in the men&rsquo;s event, as Cameroon&rsquo;s Emmanuel Eseme won in 10.16 (-1.0m/s) from USA&rsquo;s Kyree King (10.18) and Italy&rsquo;s Chituru Ali (10.19).

World leads for Girma and Sedjati in Stockholm

The Wanda Diamond League <a href="https://worldathletics.org/news/preview/bol-duplantis-alekna-bauhaus-galan-2024-stockholm" target="_blank" rel="noopener">continues on Sunday (2) in Stockholm with the seventh meeting of the season</a>.
World record-holders Femke Bol, Mondo Duplantis and Mykolas Alekna will be among the athletes aiming to extend their winning streaks at the Bauhaus Galan.
The action will start at 17:20 local time (GMT+2) with the women's shot put and the main two-hour broadcast window will begin at 18:00 local time with the men's 400m hurdles.

The Wanda Diamond League continues on Sunday (2) in Stockholm with the seventh meeting of the season

How to watch and follow the Wanda Diamond League meeting in Stockholm

World record-holders Femke Bol, Mondo Duplantis and Mykolas Alekna are aiming to extend their winning streak when the Wanda Diamond League arrives in Stockholm for the Bauhaus Galan on Sunday (2).
Bol, who has been undefeated in the 400m hurdles since August 2022, will be contesting her first race of the year in her specialist event. Already in 2024, though, the Dutch athlete has twice broken her own world indoor 400m record en route to winning the world indoor title in Glasgow.
With 49.17 400m speed in her legs, it will be interesting to see how fast Bol goes on Sunday on a track that holds many fond memories for the Olympic silver medallist. Stockholm is where Bol achieved her first Diamond League win back in 2020, and she returned there in 2021 and smashed through the 53-second barrier for the first time, clocking 52.37. Twelve months later, she went even quicker and won in Stockholm with a Diamond League record of 52.27.
The three women who secured a Jamaican 1-2-3 at the Diamond League meeting in Oslo earlier this week will also be in Stockholm, led by the winner of that race, world bronze medallist Rushell Clayton. She&rsquo;ll be joined by Andrenette Knight and Janieve Russell.
Like Bol, Alison Dos Santos is also undefeated in the 400m hurdles in Stockholm. The 23-year-old from Brazil achieved his first Diamond League win in the Swedish city back in 2021, then he returned there in 2022 to set a meeting record of 46.80.
The 2022 world champion has won both of his races on the Diamond League circuit this year, starting with 46.86 in Doha and more recently clocking 46.63 to defeat world record-holder Karsten Warholm in Oslo.
In Stockholm, world silver medallist Kyron McMaster could be Dos Santos&rsquo;s toughest rival, but also keep an eye out for 2019 world bronze medallist Abderrahman Alsaleck &ndash; part of the event&rsquo;s elite sub-47-second club &ndash; who&rsquo;ll be contesting his first 400m hurdles race of the year.
Many of the fans in Stockholm&rsquo;s Olympic Stadium, however, will be there to see home favourite Mondo Duplantis in action.
The Swedish pole vault superstar has already won a global title and broken a world record within the first five months of the year. He opened his outdoor campaign with a world record of 6.24m in Xiamen, then followed it with 6.00m victories in Suzhou and Ostrava.
At the very least, the world and Olympic champion will want to maintain his winning streak in front of his home crowd. He&rsquo;ll also be keen to vault over six metres again, no doubt, and maybe even take aim at his own meeting record of 6.16m. And if the conditions are good, who knows how high he can go?
Two of the men who joined him on the podium at last year&rsquo;s World Championships &ndash; Ernest John Obiena and Chris Nilsen &ndash; will also be in Stockholm, as will fellow six-metre vaulters KC Lightfoot and Sam Kendricks.
The men&rsquo;s discus is another field full of big hitters, led by a world record-holder who&rsquo;s undefeated this year.
Mykolas Alekna threw 74.35m at the end of April, breaking a discus world record that had stood for 38 years. Although it was a three-metre improvement on his PB, he has backed up that mark with three other competitions beyond 70 metres this year, most recently with a meeting record of 70.91m in Oslo earlier this week.
But on Sunday he&rsquo;ll be up against world and Olympic champion Daniel Stahl, who&rsquo;ll be boosted by the support of the home crowd, as will Olympic silver medallist Simon Petersson. In-form Australian Matt Denny, 2017 world champion Andrius Gudzius, Olympic bronze medallist Lukas Wiesshaidinger and 2019 world silver medallist Fedrick Dacres are also in the loaded line-up.
<h2>Rising stars Haylom and Griffith clash over 1500m</h2>
Young Ethiopian Birke Haylom has started the outdoor season in incredible form, clocking PBs of 3:53.22 for 1500m and 14:23.71 for 5000m. This Sunday she&rsquo;ll contest the shorter of those two events, but will be up against Georgia Griffith, the Australian who won over 3000m in Oslo on Thursday in a world-leading Oceanian record of 8:24.20.
That&rsquo;s not all, though, as Olympic silver medallist Laura Muir, who ran 3:56.35 in Eugene last week, is also in the field, as is Ethiopia&rsquo;s Worknesh Mesele and Australia&rsquo;s Sarah Billings, both of whom have broken four minutes for the distance this year.
The men&rsquo;s 3000m field includes four men who set sub-13-minute national records in the 5000m in Oslo on Thursday: Guatemala&rsquo;s Luis Grijalva, Switzerland&rsquo;s Dominic Lokinyomo Lobalu, Sweden&rsquo;s Andreas Almgren and South Africa&rsquo;s Adriaan Wildschutt.
Each of them will fancy their chances of winning in a race that also includes world 1500m bronze medallist Narve Gilje Nordas, 2017 European indoor champion Adel Mechaal and Oceanian record-holder Stewart McSweyn.
World indoor 1500m champion Geordie Beamish will contest his first steeplechase race of the year. So far in 2014, the 27-year-old from New Zealand has set a PB in every competition he has participated in, indoors and out.
Having only switched to the steeplechase last year, there&rsquo;s likely room for improvement on the 8:13.26 national record he set last summer. And with opponents such as Ethiopian duo Getnet Wale and Samuel Firewu, this Sunday&rsquo;s race should be a good one.
The men&rsquo;s 800m looks similarly competitive. World indoor champion Bryce Hoppel renews his rivalry with world indoor silver medallist Andreas Kramer, but world leader Djamel Sedjati will be tough to beat, as will fellow Algerian Slimane Moula and Botswana&rsquo;s Tshepiso Masalela.
Jake Wightman, the 2022 world champion, is also in the field along with fellow Brits Elliot Giles and Ben Pattison, the world bronze medallist.
<h2>Clash of global gold medallists in high jump</h2>
World high jump champion Yaroslava Mahuchikh will make her outdoor season debut on Sunday and will take on two other women who&rsquo;ve won world titles in recent years.
The Ukrainian started her year in impressive fashion, clearing 2.04m in Cottbus. But she suffered a surprise defeat at the World Indoor Championships, where Australia&rsquo;s Nicola Olyslagers came away with victory. The duo will renew their rivalry this weekend, alongside Olyslagers&rsquo; compatriot Eleanor Patterson, the 2022 world champion.
In the women&rsquo;s shot put, two-time world champion Chase Jackson faces world indoor champion and world leader Sarah Mitton of Canada. Three other women with PBs in excess of 20 metres &ndash; Jessica Schilder, Maggie Ewen and Song Jiayuan &ndash; are also in the line-up.
The women&rsquo;s triple jump, meanwhile, looks set to be a clash between world indoor champion Thea Lafond, two-time world silver medallist Shanieka Ricketts and world indoor silver medallist Leyanis Perez Hernandez.
In Oslo earlier this week, USA&rsquo;s Brittany Brown ended Shericka Jackson&rsquo;s two-year 200m winning streak, and the duo will square off again in Stockholm on Sunday. Earlier in the programme, Brown will contest the 100m, where she&rsquo;ll face Marie Josee Ta Lou-Smith, Gina Bass and Zaynab Dosso.
Japan&rsquo;s Hakim Sani Brown, runner-up in Oslo on Thursday, will take on Cameroon&rsquo;s Emmanuel Eseme in the men&rsquo;s 100m.

Bol, Duplantis and Alekna look to continue winning ways in Stockholm

Hagos Gebrhiwet produced the standout performance of the Bislett Games &ndash; and one of the biggest surprises of the year so far &ndash; when winning the men&rsquo;s 5000m in 12:36.73 at the Wanda Diamond League meeting in Oslo on Thursday (30).
It was one of three meeting records and five world leads set on an enthralling night of athletics action in the Norwegian capital, just two months away from the Paris Olympic Games.
Going into the men&rsquo;s 5000m, many eyes were on world record-holder and Olympic champion Joshua Cheptegei, two-time world cross-country champion Jacob Kiplimo and last year&rsquo;s Bislett Games winner Yomif Kejelcha. But Gebrhiwet &ndash; who produced the first sub-13-minute run of his career on this track as a teenager back in 2012 &ndash; ensured his name won&rsquo;t be forgotten in the lead-up to the Olympics.
The early pace was strong but not spectacular as the field was paced through the first 1000m in 2:33.13 and 2000m in 5:07.05. Addisu Yihune maintained that tempo through 3000m, reached in 7:41.05, with all the big contenders still in contention.

Kejelcha took control soon after and started to wind up the pace. Gebrhiwet stayed close to his fellow Ethiopian with Ugandan duo Kiplimo and Cheptegei close behind as 4000m was reached in 10:11.86, the previous kilometre being covered in 2:30.
Cheptegei was unable to hold on for much longer and started to drift back. Kejelcha continued to drive the pace but the challenge from Gebrhiwet and Kiplimo wasn&rsquo;t fading, despite the increase in pace. Gebrhiwet struck as the bell sounded and moved into the lead, kicking past his compatriot and pulling away with each stride.
With a final lap of 54.99, Gebrhiwet charged through the line in 12:36.73 to win by more than two seconds from Kejelcha (12.38.95) &ndash; the first time in history that two men have broken 12:40 in the same race.
Gebrhiwet&rsquo;s winning time is just 1.37 seconds shy of the world record Cheptegei set in 2020 and moves him to second on the world all-time list, one place ahead of Kenenisa Bekele, whose Ethiopian record Gebrhiwet broke.
Kiplimo held on for third, setting a PB of 12:40.96, while Spain&rsquo;s Thierry Ndikumwenayo (12:48.10) and Yihune (12:49.65) also finished inside 12:50.
It was just the second time in history that 13 men have broken 13 minutes. Along with Gebrhiwet, there were national records for Guatemala&rsquo;s Luis Grijalva (12:50.58), Switzerland&rsquo;s Dominic Lokinyomo Lobalu (12:50.90), Sweden&rsquo;s Andreas Almgren (12:50.94), France&rsquo;s Jimmy Gressier (12:54.97) and South Africa&rsquo;s Adriaan Wildschutt (12:56.67).
&ldquo;I&rsquo;m really happy with my time,&rdquo; said Gebrhiwet, the world road 5km champion. &ldquo;I set a PB when I first ran in Oslo, and now it&rsquo;s even better. The conditions and the crowd were great. It was a very fast race and it wasn&rsquo;t easy for me, but it went very well. I&rsquo;ll now try to qualify for the Olympics in the 10,000m too.&rdquo;

There were notable performances in two other endurance events in Oslo.
Australia&rsquo;s Georgia Griffith continued her breakthrough to win the 3000m in an Oceanian record of 8:24.20. The field had been paced through 1000m in 2:50.34, then that pace was maintained through 2000m in 5:40.73.
The field became more strung out over the final kilometre as the pace increased. Griffith made a break in the closing stages and Ethiopia&rsquo;s Likina Amebaw tried to come back, but her challenge was in vain as the Australian won in a meeting record of 8:24.20, 0.09 ahead of Amebaw in a race where the top six women finished inside 8:30.
In the closing event of the night, Olympic champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen was made to dive for the line to ensure a home victory for the Norwegian fans.
He controlled the pace in the second half, but still had 2019 world champion Timothy Cheruiyot for company on the final lap. The Kenyan challenged the Norwegian down the home straight and appeared to have timed his kick to perfection, but Ingebrigtsen collapsed over the line to get the verdict in a world-leading 3:29.74, 0.03 ahead of Cheruiyot. The first 11 finishers all set either season&rsquo;s or personal bests.

<h2>Dos Santos, Hudson-Smith and Paulino impress over one lap</h2>
The fans in the packed-out stadium had been hopeful for victories from both of their home-grown Olympic champions, but Karsten Warholm suffered a rare defeat in the 400m hurdles.
The world record-holder, who was contesting his first race of the year in his specialist event, still put together an almost perfect race and looked to be on his way to victory as he blasted into an early lead and led through 300m.
But 2022 world champion Alison Dos Santos was close behind and started to gain on the Norwegian down the home straight. Just as the Brazilian was about to draw level, Warholm clipped the final barrier, which was just enough to throw off his rhythm and allow Dos Santos to take the lead.
Dos Santos powered through the line in a world-leading 46.63 &ndash; just 0.11 shy of Warholm&rsquo;s meeting record &ndash; with the world champion finishing a close second in 46.70, still the fifth-fastest time of his career.
&ldquo;It was a tough race, but I wanted to show I am there, I am ready and in good shape, and that I can go even faster,&rdquo; said Dos Santos.

There were record-breaking performances over one lap of the track earlier in the programme, too.
World silver medallist Matt Hudson-Smith charged away from the field in the men&rsquo;s 400m to break his own European record with 44.07. Kirani James, Olympic champion back in 2012, was second in a season&rsquo;s best of 44.58.
In a clash of the podium from last year&rsquo;s World Championships, Marileidy Paulino once again came out on top in the women&rsquo;s 400m.
World silver medallist Natalia Kaczmarek led at the half-way stage, but Paulino kicked hard on the final bend and entered the home straight with a slight lead, forging ahead to win in a world-leading 49.30, just 0.07 shy of the meeting record. Kaczmarek was rewarded with a season&rsquo;s best of 49.80 in second.
Shericka Jackson&rsquo;s two-year winning streak in the 200m came to an end. The two-time world champion finished a distant fifth in 22.97 in a race won by 2019 world silver medallist Brittany Brown (22.32) with Marie-Josee Ta Lou-Smith&nbsp; close second (22.36).
Elsewhere in the sprints, South Africa&rsquo;s Akani Simbine took the men&rsquo;s 100m. Britain&rsquo;s Jeremiah Azu led at half way but then pulled up with what appeared to be a slight injury. Simbine, the Commonwealth champion, powered ahead to win in a season&rsquo;s best of 9.94 from Japan&rsquo;s Hakim Sani Brown (9.99). Olympic champion Marcell Jacobs was third in a season&rsquo;s best of 10.03.
<h2>Alekna breaks father&rsquo;s meeting record</h2>
The men&rsquo;s discus contained the winners of the past five global titles, but it was new world record-holder Mykolas Alekna who came out on top, producing his fourth competition of the year beyond 70 metres and taking down a meeting record that had stood to his father Virgilijus since 2007.
World and Olympic champion Daniel Stahl took an early lead with 66.26m, but Alekna responded in the second round with 70.91m &ndash; a 40-centimetre improvement on the meeting record and a mark that remained the best of the night.

Australia&rsquo;s Matt Denny moved into second place with a third-round throw of 67.61m, and Stahl improved to 66.80m in the same round, but no one could get near to the 21-year-old Lithuanian, who notched up his fifth victory of the year and now turns his attention to defending his European title in Rome at the start of June.
China&rsquo;s Feng Bin produced her fifth successive competition beyond 67 metres to win the women&rsquo;s discus. The 2022 world champion produced a second-round throw of 67.89m to beat multiple world and Olympic champion Sandra Elkasevic (66.48m), both women producing season&rsquo;s bests.
South Africa&rsquo;s Prudence Sekgodiso showed that her recent win in Marrakesh wasn&rsquo;t a fluke as she came out on top once again in the women&rsquo;s 800m. The 22-year-old had a comfortable lead with 200 metres to go; despite a fast finish from Natoya Goule-Toppin, Sekgodiso held on to win in 1:58.66.
Elsewhere on the track, Rushell Clayton led a Jamaican 1-2-3 in the women&rsquo;s 400m hurdles, winning in 54.02 from compatriots Andrenette Knight and Janieve Russell.
USA&rsquo;s KC Lightfoot found that 5.82m was sufficient to win the men&rsquo;s pole vault by 10 centimetres from Emmanaouil Karalis and Ernest John Obiena.
The men&rsquo;s triple jump was a lot closer as world champion Fabrice Hugues Zango won by just two centimetres from Algeria&rsquo;s Yasser Triki, 17.27m to 17.25m.

The Wanda Diamond League continues on Thursday (30) in Oslo with the sixth meeting of the season

How to watch and follow the Wanda Diamond League meeting in Oslo

Wanda Diamond League action returns to the Norwegian capital of Oslo on Thursday (30), when a host of global champions and world record-holders will battle at the Bislett Games.
Home stars Karsten Warholm and Jakob Ingebrigtsen contest two of the many top-class match ups, while Shericka Jackson heads the 200m line up, Joshua Cheptegei stars in a strong 5000m field, Prudence Sekgodiso has the chance to make another statement in the 800m and&nbsp;Mykolas Alekna forms part of another impressive discus clash.
Norway&rsquo;s Warholm set the first of his two world 400m hurdles records in Oslo, clocking 46.70 in 2021. He went even faster one month later, improving the record to 45.94 to win the Olympic title in Tokyo.
It was also in 2021 that Warholm claimed the second of his two Diamond Trophies and now, as he works towards his Olympic title defence, the Bislett Games is where he kicks off his 2024 Diamond League campaign. After an indoor season that featured just the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow, where he secured 400m silver, Warholm opened his outdoor season in Bergen last week. Running 33.28 for the 300m hurdles, he missed his own world best from 2021 by just 0.02.
In Oslo, the three-time world champion contests the 400m hurdles for the first time since finishing second in the Diamond League final in Eugene in September. He&rsquo;s got some fierce competition as he faces Brazil&rsquo;s Alison dos Santos, the world and Diamond League champion in 2022, who opened his own 400m hurdles season with a 46.86 win in Doha. Looking to challenge them both will be world silver medallist Kyron McMaster.
While Warholm races in the Diamond League for the first time this year, his compatriot Ingebrigtsen started his season by finishing second in a thrilling mile in Eugene and will now look to go one better in the 1500m on home soil. The Olympic champion, who won both the 1500m and 5000m Diamond League titles last year, this time goes up against the likes of his compatriot Narve Gilje Nordas, the world bronze medallist last year, plus 2019 world champion Timothy Cheruiyot, Azeddine Habz and Stewart McSweyn, as Ingebrigtsen returns to a meeting at which he ran 3:27.95 last year.
The men&rsquo;s 5000m is also highly competitive as Uganda&rsquo;s Cheptegei, the world record-holder and Olympic champion, goes up against his compatriots Jacob Kiplimo and Oscar Chelimo, plus Olympic and world medallist Hagos Gebrhiwet and his Ethiopian compatriots Yomif Kejelcha, Samuel Tefera and Biniam Mehary, Switzerland&rsquo;s Dominic Lokinyomo Lobalu and Spain&rsquo;s Thierry Ndikumwenayo.
In the women&rsquo;s 800m, South Africa&rsquo;s Sekgodiso has the chance to double her number of Diamond League meeting wins, following her breakthrough victory in Marrakech. There she ran a PB of 1:57.26 to beat Habitam Alemu and Noelie Yarigo, and Yarigo is also in action in Oslo, as is world indoor champion Tsige Duguma, who was second in Los Angeles in a PB of 1:57.56. Jess Hull, who ran 8:37.18 to win in Sydney in March, races the 3000m against Caroline Nyaga and Karoline Bjerkeli Grovdal.
<h2>Jackson and Jacobs in sprints, Alekna heads discus clash</h2>
Jamaica&rsquo;s world champion Jackson got her season off to a winning start with a 200m victory in Marrakech in 22.82 to maintain a winning streak of 16 finals that dates back to June 2022. Having won Diamond Trophies in both the 100m and 200m last year, she&rsquo;ll look to build on that opener in Oslo, where she will face USA&rsquo;s Jenna Prandini, Anavia Battle and Brittany Brown, plus Marie-Josee Ta Lou-Smith and Daryll Neita, who won the 200m in Suzhou and 100m in Doha.
In the men&rsquo;s 100m, Italy&rsquo;s Olympic champion Marcell Jacobs will clash with Akani Simbine, who won in Suzhou, plus Marrakech winner Emmanuel Eseme and Abdul Hakim Sani Brown. Brandon Hicklin and Jeremiah Azu, who have both run sub-10.00 PBs this season, join them in the line up.
Dominican Republic&rsquo;s world champion Marileidy Paulino will race against world bronze medallist Sada Williams and world indoor silver medallist Lieke Klaver in the 400m, while the men&rsquo;s event features Grenada&rsquo;s multiple Olympic and world medallist Kirani James, world silver medallist Matthew Hudson-Smith and home favourite Havard Bentdal Ingvaldsen. Jamaica&rsquo;s world bronze medallist Rushell Clayton leads the entries for the women&rsquo;s 400m hurdles.
After setting a world record of 74.35m in Ramona in April, Mykolas Alekna won the discus clash in Marrakech, surpassing 70 metres again with a 70.70m throw to beat Australian record-holder Matthew Denny and Sweden&rsquo;s Olympic and world champion Daniel Stahl.
That trio clash again in Oslo as part of a stacked field &ndash; one which also includes 2022 world gold medallist Kristjan Ceh, Andrius Gudzius, Fedrick Dacres and Lukas Weisshaidinger. The women&rsquo;s discus competition gets the Diamond League action under way in Oslo and that contest will see 2022 world champion Feng Bin go up against world fourth-place finisher Jorinde van Klinken. Both have clinched third-place finishes in the Diamond League so far this season, Feng in Xiamen and Van Klinken in Eugene.
The top two from the World Championships in Budapest clash in the men&rsquo;s triple jump as Hugues Fabrice Zango goes up against Lazaro Martinez. In the men&rsquo;s pole vault, USA&rsquo;s Olympic and world medallist Chris Nilsen, KC Lightfoot and two-time world champion Sam Kendricks take on Ernest John Obiena and home star Simen Guttormsen.

Warholm, Jackson and Ingebrigtsen among stars on show in Oslo

In a race that was set up as a 10,000m world record attempt, the competitor who initially had no intention of challenging the record became the one ultimately to smash it.&nbsp;
The record now belongs to <a href="https://worldathletics.org/athletes/kenya/beatrice-chebet-14749924" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Beatrice Chebet</a> of Kenya, who ran 28:54.14* to become the first woman under 29 minutes on the track. That performance, achieved on Saturday (25) at the Prefontaine Classic, is seven seconds faster than the previous world record of 29:01.03 that Letesenbet Gidey established in 2021. The race opened the Wanda Diamond League meeting with an immediate roar from the Hayward Field crowd.
Ethiopia&rsquo;s Gudaf Tsegay became the third-fastest all-time performer with her runner-up finish of 29:05.92, as four women ran faster than 30 minutes. The race also doubled as the selection race for Athletics Kenya&rsquo;s Paris Olympic team, and Chebet and Lilian Kasait Rengeruk (29:26.89) qualified.
In a race that took place before the Diamond League programme, Tsegay and Chebet stayed within a stride of the lights marking world record pace as they passed halfway in 14:31, until Chebet sped ahead with three laps remaining, the lead all her own, and with it the weight of a world record attempt.&nbsp;
Her move was motivated by seeing world 5000m record-holder Tsegay &ndash; who had initially requested a world record pace, only to decide against it because of discomfort in a foot, and change her mind again in recent days after feeling better &ndash; begin to fall behind the pace lights. Chebet said she entered the meeting to qualify for Paris, where she plans to contest both the 5000m and 10,000m, but her intent was not the record.
&ldquo;When Gudaf asked for a world record, I decided to say: &lsquo;Let me try to go for that to see how the body is.&rsquo; Because my body was not bad,&rdquo; said Chebet, the two-time world cross country champion who also claimed world 5km gold last year. &ldquo;I was comfortable to run a world record so when I saw Gudaf drop a bit, I said: &lsquo;Let me try to push it to see how it can go.&rsquo; When I got to the last two laps, I just got motivated and said, I&rsquo;m on a world record pace, so let me push the last 400m.&rdquo;
With 800m to go, Chebet pulled ahead of the pace lights by two whole strides as fans inside Hayward Field began standing in their seats.
After the finish, Chebet fell to the track, splayed out in exhaustion, as Tsegay finished and joined her on the track. When the women stood, they hugged as the new world record flashed on the scoreboard behind them. Chebet later returned to the track wearing a &lsquo;Stop Pre&rsquo; T-shirt, the same design that Steve Prefontaine wore at Hayward Field more than 50 years earlier.
After only her second ever 10,000m race, Chebet adds this world record to the world 5km record of 14:13 she set in Barcelona in December.
&ldquo;I knew a woman could run under 29, I&rsquo;ve known for a long time,&rdquo; said Sifan Hassan, who entered the meeting as No.2 all-time, and now ranks fourth. Hassan believes women &ldquo;can run 28:45&rdquo; in the future.
Four men sprinted within a step of one another toward the finish of Athletics Kenya&rsquo;s men&rsquo;s 10,000m trials, with Daniel Mateiko winning in 26:50.81 after a 56-second final lap to edge Nicholas Kipkorir, who ran a personal best of 26:50.94.&nbsp;
<h2>Kerr claims mile crown</h2>
In perhaps the most anticipated race, world 1500m champion Josh Kerr outduelled Olympic champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen to win the Bowerman Mile in a British record of 3:45.34, breaking Steve Cram&rsquo;s 1985 record.&nbsp;

After the pacer came through halfway in 1:53, Kerr moved up to the front with 600m remaining and the favourites aligned at the front, with Ingebrigtsen and Yared Nuguse behind, and 2022 world champion Jake Wightman tracking Nuguse closely in fourth. That order was unchanged with half a lap remaining and no one could make up ground on Kerr, who ripped his sunglasses off after finishing before collecting himself and shaking the hand of Ingebrigtsen. The two had bantered through the press for months about their standing atop the 1500m.&nbsp;
&ldquo;I felt very strong through the first (kilometre) and I was like, you know what, it&rsquo;s time to press and push and see what these guys have got,&rdquo; Kerr said.&nbsp;
Ingebrigtsen was coming off an achilles tendon injury during the winter and opened his season in 3:45.60, with the US record-holder Nuguse third in 3:46.22. Ingebrigtsen said that although he was coming off missing time due to injury, he considered the race an improvement on last year at this time.
&ldquo;I tried to fight him,&rdquo; Ingebrigtsen said of Kerr, &ldquo;but today for me was more of a time trial. Of course, we&rsquo;re racing, but it&rsquo;s definitely some differences in terms of approach into this race because this, for some people, this is their final test, even before the Olympics in Paris. But this is not my final test. I think if anything, this is going to be an exciting summer. For myself, I think it&rsquo;s very good.&rdquo;
Even with Olympic and world champion Ryan Crouser a late withdrawal, the men&rsquo;s shot put was won by one of history's farthest marks. Joe Kovacs threw 23.13m, which stands as the seventh best winning mark of all time and as the second best throw of Kovacs&rsquo; career. In recent weeks while training at the sector Kovacs is building at his home, he has thrown well beyond Saturday&rsquo;s mark, so far that it &ldquo;hits the mulch&rdquo; in his backyard, he said. On Saturday, his winning throw pushed the limits of the stadium sector.
&ldquo;If I did a mulch throw here, I think I would be doing some landscaping at Hayward,&rdquo; Kovacs added.&nbsp;
Kovacs said he would have preferred to compete against Crouser to measure up to the world record-holder, and Leonardo Fabbri, the year&rsquo;s previous world leader, but said he understood that national trials were only three weeks away. It wasn&rsquo;t the only big throw, with Canada&rsquo;s Camryn Rogers breaking the meeting record while winning the hammer with 77.23m on her fifth attempt. DeAnna Price was second with 76.74m.&nbsp;

<h2>Hodgkinson takes top spot</h2>
In an 800m field that could be a Paris preview, Keely Hodgkinson made her move to the front with 150m remaining, passed world champion Mary Moraa and gained a step by the top of the final backstretch. That gap widened from there, with Hodgkinson winning in 1:55.78, breaking the tape with a slash of her hand. Moraa was second in 1:56.71, and Jemma Reekie and Nia Akins close behind.
Afterward, Hodgkinson revealed that during November training she had injured a ligament, tendon and hamstring at the back of her knee in what she called a &ldquo;freak accident&rdquo; while spraining her ankle. The injury sidelined her for the indoor season.
Tsigie Gebreselama took eight seconds off of Tsegay&rsquo;s previous world leading time to win the 5000m in 14:18.76, a personal best. Ethiopian women finished in the top six places, with Ejgayehu Taye second in 14:18.92 after a fierce fight for the line.
Hassan was seventh, in 14:34.38. There were no lingering effects from running the Tokyo Marathon, Hassan said. Instead, she said she was coming off of several hard weeks of training in the US at altitude. Now that her range has extended to the marathon, Hassan &ndash; who has earned gold at global championships from the 1500m to the 10,000m &ndash; said she would likely decide what event, or events, to focus on in Paris in July.
Another world lead was set in the 3000m steeplechase after Peruth Chemutai broke the Ugandan record in 8:55.09, which took three tenths of a second off of the previous world lead held by Beatrice Chepkoech, Saturday&rsquo;s runner-up in 8:56.51. They were the only women under nine minutes.
<h2>Sprint showdowns</h2>
Sha&rsquo;Carri Richardson and Elaine Thompson-Herah lined up next to one another at the start of the 100m, but Richardson quickly made their showdown moot. Only Julien Alfred could stay within a step of the world champion, whose 10.83 was off the world lead of 10.77 but well ahead of the field. Alfred was second in 10.93, as one of three women &ndash; including Dina Asher-Smith &ndash; under 11 seconds. Thompson-Herah, the five-time Olympic champion, opened her season in ninth, in 11.30. Richardson said she was nervous &ldquo;but I used that nervousness as my motivation.&rdquo;&nbsp;
Christian Coleman held off Ferdinand Omanyala to win the men&rsquo;s 100m, 9.95 to 9.98.&nbsp;
Gerald Drummond won the 400m hurdles in 48.56 out of the eighth lane, pulling ahead in the final 50m after Roshawn Clarke faded from first to fourth. Rai Benjamin, the world leader, had initially been entered, only to withdraw after feeling slight discomfort coming off his world-leading victory the week prior in Los Angeles.
Three women were within three-hundredths of a second at the finish of the 100m hurdles before Cyrena Samba-Mayela won in 12.52, tying her own French record. She was just ahead of Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, in 12.54.

Grant Holloway led the 110m hurdles by the third barrier and widened the gap by a whole stride at midway en route to the season&rsquo;s fastest time of 13.03 &ndash; an improvement on the 13.07 he ran last week in Atlanta. Holloway extended his winning streak to 11 consecutive races in 2024. Only a late push by Daniel Roberts, second in 13.13, narrowed Holloway&rsquo;s margin of victory only slightly over a strong field that included five who made the final of last year&rsquo;s World Championships. Hansle Parchment, the Budapest silver medallist, was fourth in 13.28.
Diribe Welteji ran away with the 1500m victory in a personal best of 3:53.75, pulling Australia&rsquo;s Jessica Hull to an area record 3:55.97 in the process, with Elle St. Pierre right behind in 3:56.00, a PB by two seconds. Hull had made breaking the Australian record her goal at the last Prefontaine Classic, in September, and felt it was possible after becoming very comfortable running 62-second laps during training, she said.&nbsp;
Wearing what has become his trademark headband, one that on Saturday read &ldquo;conqueror,&rdquo; Kenny Bednarek led the 200m coming off the curve and won in 19.89, ahead of Courtney Lindsey&rsquo;s 20.09.&nbsp;
World silver medallist Valarie Allman led the discus from her first attempt but required a final throw of 67.36m to stay ahead of Yaime Perez, whose own final throw came close at 67.25m.
