Former Swedish international Kenth Andersson dies suddenly

Former athlete and manager Kenth Andersson (SWE) passed away in Belgrade, Serbia on the morning of Thursday 20 January. He was 66-years-old.

Andersson was a Swedish international middle distance runner in the 1960s, winning two national titles at 800 metres and one at 1500 metres in 1966/7. He got an athletics scholarship in San Diego, USA, beginning a peripatetic career, which branched into management, where his capacity for languages was second only to his knowledge of international athletics and its practitioners.

Belgrade had become his second home in recent years, through his friendship with and assistance to Dejan Nikolic and the team around the Belgrade Marathon.

Kenth loved to be with people and friends and it was after a late night meal on one of Belgrade's celebrated riverboat restaurants that he died suddenly.

At midday on Thursday 27 January a Memorial Service will be held in the Great Hall in Belgrade City Hall, hosted by the Belgrade Marathon and Athletics Federation of Serbia.
