Competition Performance Rankings Rules
1. Invitational/Open competitions
Invitational/Open competitions are those competitions which are organized with only a selected number of events and/or are based on inviting the athletes, like IAAF Diamond League meetings, IAAF World Challenge meetings, Area and National permit meetings, other one-day competitions, etc. They are mostly organized in one day, but in some cases they may be organized in two days.
2. Championships Type competitions
Championships Type competitions are those competitions which are held in two or more days with a full or nearly full programme of events. Mainly the championships, cups, games belong in this category.
3. Indoor competitions
All indoor competitions regardless of the duration of the competition, except the Combined Events only competitions, which belong to the Combined Events competitions category, and except those indoor competitions which belong to the Special Competitions category.
4. Combined Events competitions
The Combined Events only competitions as well as Combined Events held in conjunction with other Multi-day or Indoor competitions.
5. Special competitions
Outdoor or indoor competitions specialized on only a small group of track and field events like jumping, throwing, sprints, middle distance or hurdling events.
6. Race Walking competitions
Competitions held with only Race Walking events.
7. Marathon competitions
Marathon only competitions or Marathon races held in conjunction with other road running races. Marathon competitions are ranked in 3 different categories:
- Combined ranking of the Men's and Women's Marathon races
- Men's Marathon ranking
- Women's Marathon ranking.
8. Road Running competitions
Road Running competitions, except the Marathon which is calculated separately. Similarly to Marathon Competition Rankings, the Road Running competitions are ranked in 3 different categories:
- Combined ranking of the Men's and Women's races
- Men's Road Running ranking
- Women's Road Running ranking.
