African 3000m steeplechase record holder Irene Limika was on Saturday beaten to second place at the last leg of Athletics Kenya weekend meetings in Nairobi.
Limika finished the 2000m steeplechase race in 6:27.6 behind the winner Eunice Jepkorir who crossed in 6:25.2.
Billy Konchella, who won two 800m world titles in Rome in 1987 and Tokyo four years later, will be happy to hear that his teenage son Gregory is learning the ropes fast. Gregory won the 800m race in 1:47.85 as Francis Kakonzi followed in 1:50.30.
Paul Langat, Josephine Nyarunda, Cecilia Kiplangat, Margaret Ngotho remained on course to win a share of the Sh 1 million Jackpot after winning their events at the weekend meeting.
Langat, who has won in three previous competitions, won the javelin event with a throw of 69.02 metres, ahead of Peter Saina, who has also won three previous times, with 67.72 metres.
An athlete has to win the Golden Jackpot events four times including at the National Championships due in July.
Nyarunda, winner three times so far, won the women's 400 metres in 54.16seconds. She was followed by contender Jacinta Wambui in 54.25 and Priscila Isiaho in 55.38. Wambui has also won three times before.
Kiplangat, who has won at all the four previous meetings, also won the javelin event in 50.75 metres as Pascaline Cheptanui followed in 45.15 metres.
Ngotho, winner three times so far, won the 1500 metres event in 4:16.27 with Mary Wangare in second place in 4:18.45.
