Jessica Ennis (GBR) didn’t disappoint in the High Jump either, the second event of the Heptathlon adding more points to her lead. The Briton cleared 1.92m and made good attempts at a British record-equalling 1.95m height too. Ennis has now scored a total of 2267 points after two events winning the High Jump with 1132p. She is also 34 points ahead of her 6587p season’s best series.

Sharon Day (USA) was the expected number two in this event clearing 1.89m for a total of 2086p and a second place in the competition at the moment. Lyudmyla Yosypenko could be the Ukrainian surprise in this competition. The 24-year-old jumped 1.86m, just two centimetres shy of her 1.88m personal best and with a total of 2084 points she is in third place.

Olympic champion Nataliya Dobrynska (UKR) also did well in the High Jump bettering the result from her season’s best series. The 27-year-old cleared 1.83m and is going to really challenge Ennis for the gold here. Dobrynska has now scored 2016p for sixth place, but she should gain well more than a 100 points in the Shot Put, the next event.

Another Ukrainian Hanna Melnychenko is in fourth place after a good 1.83m clearance in the High Jump for a total of 2052p. German ladies also did well in this event with Jennifer Oeser clearing 1.83m for a total of 2049p at the moment.

The next event, the Shot Put, will really change the standings at the top. At her best Dobrynska is a really good shot putter and will close the 251p gap she has behind Ennis now.
