American Trey Hardee hit a huge personal best of 15.33m in the Shot Put, the third event, to maintain his lead in the Decathlon.
Hardee, competing in his first World championships, added 78 centimetres to his previous best to increase his tally after three events to 2814 total points. He has already gained 115 points in comparison to his season’s best score 8516p and will challenge Cuban Leonel Suarez for the gold.
Suarez had a little trouble in the first two events, but came back with a personal best 15.20m shot put adding an impressive 71 centimetres to his previous best 14.49m from the Beijing Olympics. The Cuban is only 14th at the moment with 2505 points but is on course for a 8650p total.
Oleksiy Kasyanov of Ukraine set a personal best 15.72m in the Shot Put and is in second place after three events with 2789 points. Russian Aleksandr Pogorelov also had a PB 16.65m and has scored 2695 points for the third with Cuban Yunior Díaz close behind with 2689p and Roman Sebrle, the reigning World champion from Czech Republic, fifth with 2623p.
