Event Report - Men's High Jump - Decathlon

In a good standard and time consuming Decathlon High Jump competition three athletes cleared 2.11m with some important changes at the top of the scoring.

The most important result in the fourth event was reigning champion Roman Sebrle of Czech Republic clearing 2.11m and suddenly moving himself to reaching distance from the medals. The Czech veteran is now in fourth place having scored 3529 points.

World leading athlete Leonel Suárez of Cuba also cleared 2.11m and although this only gives he the ninth place at the moment with 3411 points, the Cuban Olympic bronze medallist is still going for the gold and is 12 points ahead of his 8654 personal best series. Andrei Krauchanka of Belarus was the third man to go over 2.11m and he too is fighting for the medals with 3418 points at the moment for eighth place.

The lead also changed in the competition with Ukrainian Oleksiy Kasyanov moving top the rankings with 3639 total points after a 2.05 personal best performance in the High Jump. Former leader Trey Hardee cleared 1.99m which was a good result for him and while the American is in second place at the moment with 3608, he is fighting for the win in Decathlon here.

Russian Aleksandr Pogorelov is third with 3573 points having set a season’s best 2.08m in the high jump and Cuban Yunior Diaz fifth with 3511p (2.02 HJ). German Pascal Behrenbruch delighted the home crowd with a season’s best 2.02 clearance and is in 11th place with 3372 points. Behrenbuch has a strong second day in Decathlon which means he is still on course to finish in the top three in the competition.
