The Penn Relays is the oldest and largest track and field competition in the United States, hosted annually the University of Pennsylvania at Franklin Field in Philadelphia. It annually attracts 15,000 participants and over 100,000 spectators during its five days of competition. Established in 1895, it begun with a quarter mile relay (4x400m), the meet quickly grew to include a 5-mile relay, a 2-mile relay. Following that a 100 yard dash, 220 yard dash, 120 yard hurdles, the high jump, pole vault, long jump, shot put and hammer throw were added.
