After much speculation in the Czech media in recent weeks, the management of Czech javelin throwing legend Jan Zelezny has confirmed today that the three-time World and Olympic champion will finish his career at the end of this year.

“It is a clear and final decision by the javelin hero,” confirmed his manager Alfons Juck.

The 39-year-old World record holder (98.48m) is presently training in Potchefstroom, South Africa, his usual warm weather base where he prepares for the season. He will stay there until the end of April.

In 2006, Zelezny who is widely recognised as the greatest javelin thrower of all-time will be aiming at the European Championships, the only major title missing from his collection.

The only one day fixture so far finalised for him is the IAAF World Athletics Tour Meeting in Ostrava (Golden Spike) on 30 May 2006.
