Darling of the Bahamas who won a highly competitive 400m final at the IAAF World Championships in Helsinki last summer donated her gold medal winning bodysuit to the IAAF humanitarian project Athletics for a Better World.
Williams-Darling handed her donation to the Americas project Ambassador Debbie Ferguson following her 49.55 seconds win in Helsinki.
29-year-old Williams-Darling was the revelation of the 2004 summer season during which not only did she win the Olympic title in Athens but she also won a share of the TDK Golden League Jackpot.
Williams-Darling ended her season at the top of the 2004 World lists with a personal best 49.07 which she ran in the newly refurbished Berlin Olympic stadium, the final leg of the TDK Golden League circuit.
With her breathtaking win in Berlin, Williams-Darling won US$ 500,000 as she shared the Jackpot with triple jumper Christian Olsson of Sweden.
She ended the 2004 season with the four fastest performances at 400m and ranked World number 1 in her event. In 2005 she ran five of the ten fastest performances of the year.
Williams-Darling’s autographed donation will be auctioned at the end of the year and all profits donated to the United Nations Associations: FAO, UNICEF and WFP.
