Vladimir Kotov clocked his third victory in the Comrades ultramarathon, an 86.5km race from the port city of Durban to Pietermaritzburg.
Kotov, who at 46 is the oldest person to win the Comrades,
finished the race in 5:31:22, with a handsome lead over Poland's Jaraslaw Janicki and Russian Oleg Kharitonov.
Defending champion Elena Nurgalieva won the women's race in a
new record time of 6:11:15, shaving more than two minutes off the previous mark achieved by South African Frith van der Merwe.
