IAAF President Lamine Diack recently visited the IBA Mar Diop Stadium of Dakar (Senegal), which held the first African Championships in 1979, and which will soon get a new synthetic track.
The building work is almost finished, it only remains for a few complementary works to be completed within the next 3 or 4 weeks, after which the laying of the track to international standards can be done soon afterwards.
The Sports Minister, Youssoupha Ndiaye and the President of the IAAF, Lamine Diack accompanied by the President of the Senegalese Athletics Federation, Momar Mbaye, paid a visit to the building site on Thursday 27 November.
The rehabilitation of the track of the IBA Mar Diop offers up new prospects and thoughts have already been given to holding the next International Meeting of Dakar there.
When the visit was over, Lamine Diack who was delighted by the progress reports of the works, encouraged the Senegalese Federation to set up a good programme of events at the stadium.
