Michael Kite (KEN) wins Trieste Marathon
7 May 2000 - 25-year-old Kenyan Michael Kite won this year's edition of the Trieste
(Italy) Maratona d'Europa in a time of 2:12:22 in his first outing over 42.195 km.
Kite won in the final sprint from Italy's Graziano Calvaresi after the pair had dominated the entire race. Giorgio Calcaterra (ITA) came in third in 2:16:32.
The women's race was won by 39-year-old Ukrainian Irina Sklyarenko, with 2:44:33, ten minutes ahead of second-placed Nadezhda Guselschikova of Russia. Italy's Elena Navone was third.
Over six thousand participants took part in the event.
