Men Decathlon Event 8Pole Vault

Leonid Andreev strengthened his grip on the leadership of the decathlon as Nadir El Fassi dropped out of the pole vault after three unsuccessful attempts at 4.50. His successful clearance of 4.40 metres gave the Frenchman 731 points.

Mikko Halvari meanwhile continued to strengthen his position with a 4.60 clearance worth 790 points, closing his gap with El Fassi to a narrow 31 points.

Meanwhile Andreev dominated this event of the competition, clearing 4.60, then 4.80 at his first attempt, before asking that the bar be raised to an overly ambitious 5.00 metres and making three failures at this height.

With a final height of 4.80 the Uzbek scored 849 points for a total from eight events of 6505 points; El Fassi has 6332 points and Halvari 6301 as the athletes prepare for the remaining two events, this evening, the Javelin  and the 1500 metres.
