Liz McColgan, Britain's most successful women's distance runner, Friday announced she is pregnant and will not compete in this year's London Marathon.
Former World 10,000m champion McColgan had recently recovered from an ankle injury and was striving to ensure she was fit enough to compete in the race she won in 1996.
The announcement came shortly after Irish long-distance ace Sonia O'Sullivan revealed that she too is expecting a baby - in July, three months before McColgan.
