Spain’s Yago Lamela the twotime World Championships medallist in the Long Jump is on the road to recovery after an Achilles tendon operation.

Lamela went for treatment last November to fix a troublesome injury and returned to training this week.

“Now I'm beginning to train a little but the first month after the operation was horrible. I couldn't walk and when you see your colleagues training and you cannot it's frustrating.”

He is hopeful of competing at the 2005 World Championships in Finland. “I am aware that the first competitions will be the most difficult because the body is not accustomed and the tendon still has to get stronger.”
