Kenyans, a Caribbean veteran and a local American legend provided the big stories from last weekend’s Run Barbados series.

Joseph Kamau and Ronald Mogaka took the top two places in the Run Barbados 10K and half-marathon. But the Kenyans shared the spoils, as Mogaka won on Saturday (4 Dec), and Kamau on Sunday (6 Dec).

Mogaka, 26, beat 125 other runners on a warm, humid Saturday afternoon. He completed the course in 30:16, 13 seconds ahead of Kamau. David Njuguna was third in 31:36, and a fourth Kenyan, pre-race favourite Abraham Kosgei, fourth in 32:02. On a cool Sunday morning, the 35-year-old Kamau won in 1:08:16, well ahead of Mogaka (1:09:17) and Sean Wade (1:10:22) of New Zealand.

Another Kenyan, 30-year-old Teresa Wanjiku, won the women’s 10K and half-marathon, respectively in 38:05 and 1:24:56.

In the blue riband race, it was Victor Ledgers, a 37-year-old St Lucian, who ran away with the Cable & Wireless Marathon winning in 2:34:10. Kim Goff continued to make history in Barbados, winning her 11th women's Marathon title on these shores in 3:31:24.

Ken Herriott of Scotland set a blazing trail in his wheelchair, clocking 1:32:13. Wheelchair competitor Kenny Herriot from Scotland completed the marathon under two hours.
