Half-Marathon fixed for 15 October

New Delhi, IndiaThe second edition of the Hutch Delhi Half-Marathon will be held at the Indian capital New Delhi on 15 October this year.
 
As much as 40 leading international runners will take part in the half-marathon which attracts a total prize purse of USD 150,000.  
 
A 7 Km Great Delhi Run, Senior Citizens’ Run and a 4.3 Km Wheel Chair event will also be conducted concurrently with the main race wherein some 25,000 athletes are expected to join.  

In order to encourage and promote running, there will have incentives and separate prize funds for leading Indian finishers.
 
Briefing to media about the second annual event this evening, IAAF Council Member and President of the Indian Olympic Association Mr. Suresh Kalmadi expressed that  “as New Delhi is fast becoming the global sports destination, it is events like the Hutch Half Marathon that showcase the city and also give proof of the organizational capabilities” while referring to the 2010 Commonwealth Games which will be held here, the city’s bid for the 2014 Asian Games and its ambitions to host the 2016 Olympic Games.
 
The Hutch Marathon will have Ethiopian long distance runner Haille Gebrsellasie, legendary Indian tennis-star Vijay Amritraj and ace Cricketer Kapil Dev as its brand ambassadors.
 
Mr. Asim Ghosh, Managing Director of Hutchinson Essar, the title sponsor, voiced “Hutch is delighted to be associated with an event that in such a short time has become so close to the heart of the Delhiite and world sport”.
