CAA General Secretary Abdoul Wahab Barka Ba passes away

MonteCarloThe Senegalese Athletics Federation and the African Athletic Confederation (CAA) have sadly informed the IAAF of the death of Abdoul Wahab Barka Ba, the General Secretary of the CAA.

The death of Abdoul Wahab Barka Ba occurred today, Tuesday 5 August 2008, in the main hospital in the Senegalese capital, Dakar, with his body then moved to the town of Louga in north western Senegal for the funeral which took place this afternoon.

Abdoul Wahab Barka Ba’s death will be a sad loss to both the world of athletics and fencing, two sports to which he devoted his life.

A retired Senior Inspector of Youth and Sport Education (1978 to 2003), Abdoul Wahab Barka Ba was the senior Vice President of the Senegalese National Olympic Committee, and was heavily involved in fencing as well as athletics. He served as President of the national federation and as a member of the Executive Committee of the International Fencing Federation. 

Among his many functions nationally, Abdoul Wahab Barka Ba was director of the Stadium Leopold Sédar Senghor (1998-1999), which is home to the IAAF High Performance Training Centre (HPTC) and IAAF Regional Development Centre (RDC). The stadium nowadays also hosts the annual IAAF World Athletics Tour meeting.

The IAAF offers their very sincere condolences to the family of the deceased, and to his colleagues in the CAA, the national athletics federation, the Senegalese National Olympic Committee, and the Senegalese Confederation of Fencing.
