Luminita Zaituc admits her win in the Berlin Half Marathon at the weekend has given her the ideal start to her World Championship season.
Zaituc was the first German athlete to win the event since 1995 and the 36-year-old was unable to hide her delight.
“I felt so good that I had to force myself to remain patient,'' she said after beating off the challenges of Eun Jeong Lee from South Korea and Kenya's Beatrice Omwanza. That has given me confidence, particularly because I enjoyed it so much.”
Zaituc is now planning ahead to the World Championships in Helsinki in August, where she will contest the Marathon.
