Aleksander Tammert, the Olympic bronze medallist in the Discus throw, joined the event's 70-metre club with his 70.82 winning effort at the Brooks/North Texas Spring Classic in Denton, Texas, USA on Saturday (15 April).
It was a major improvement for the 33-year-old Estonian, whose previous best was 68.48 set in 2004. His performance also betters the Estonian national record*, previously held by Gerd Kanter who reached 70.10 last year in Chula Vista, California.
Last year, Tammert finished fourth at the World Championships in Helsinki.
