The Russian Indoor Junior champs were held in Volgograd last week concluding on 26 February.
The highlight was the performance of home boy Vyacheslav Kolesnichenko from Volgograd who set the new Russian junior best for 200 m of 21.22sec.
Kolesnichenko had run faster recently at the Cup of the Governor of Volgograd (21.10). But there was no doping control at that tournament and the record was not registered. However, the Russian Juniors 80 doping tests were taken and being among them Kolesnichenko will be approved.
There were other heroes as well. 2007 World Youth champion Darya Klishina leaped 6.20m to win the Women's Long Jump, while Yekaterina Zavyilova took a double middle distance triumph. She was the fastest at 800m – 2:05.76 and 1500m 4:22.19.
Andrei Dmitriev also won two middle distances, his result at 1500m was 3:56.90 and at 3000m he sped to 8:33.30.
The 17-year-old shot putter Nikita Luboslavskiy who is the junior brother of Anton Luboslavsliy, the U23 European champion, won with an encouraging result of 16.41m.
There were real battles in the High Jumps. In the men’s competition three athletes cleared 2.11m. Nikita Anizschenko won on count-back, Leonid Birukov and Leonid Gradoboyev were the second and the third consequently. In the women's High Jump five jumpers cleared 1.75m with Yekaterina Bolshakova the victor on count-back.
Gennadiy Chudinov was the winner of the men's Long Jump (7.57m), while the men's Pole Vault was dominated by Anton Ivakin (5.10m) and Anjella Sidorova was the best among women pole vaulters (4.10m).
Yevgeniy Panasenko was the fastest at 400m (49.49) and Lylyya Zubkova clocked 54.02 to succeed in the women’s race.
