For the third time in the history of the IAAF Hammer Throw Challenge, Polish duo Anita Wlodarczyk and Pawel Fajdek topped the end-of-year standings.
The scoring system takes each athlete’s three best marks from the series and equates metres to points. Prize money is awarded to the top 12 finishers at the end of the challenge. The athlete with the highest score wins US $30,000.
Wlodarczyk’s top performance in the series was achieved at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, where she smashed her own world record with 82.29m. Added to her 79.61m throw in Szczecin and her 78.54m mark in Ostrava, the 30-year-old amassed a record score of 240.44.
Britain’s Olympic bronze medallist Sophie Hitchon placed second overall in the challenge standings with 218.11, just 0.31 points ahead of Zalina Marghieva of Moldova.
Despite missing out on the Olympic final, Fajdek retained his challenge title.
His 242.89 tally comprised marks of 81.12m in Turku, 81.11m in Szekesfehervar and 80.66m in Ostrava.
For the second year in a row, Dilshod Nazarov finished runner-up to Fajdek in the challenge standings, the Olympic champion scoring 236.37 to finish comfortably ahead of world and Olympic bronze medallist Wojciech Nowicki.

Pour la troisième fois dans l'histoire du Challenge du lancer du marteau de l'IAAF, les Polonais Pawel Fajdek et Anita Wlodarczyk terminent en tête des classements généraux finaux.
Le système de cotation prend en compte les trois meilleures performances de chaque athlète de la série et convertit les distances en points. Des prix en argent versés aux douze meilleurs classés à la fin du Challenge. L'athlète terminant premier se voit remettre un chèque de 30 000 dollars USD.
La meilleure performance de la série de Wlodarczyk a été enregistrée lors des Jeux Olympiques de Rio 2016, lorsqu'elle a largement battu son propre record du monde avec un lancer à 82,29m. Cette performance, cumulée avec ses 79,61 m de Szczecin et ses 78,54 m d'Ostrava, a valu à la lanceuse de 30 ans un total record de 240,44 points.
La Britannique Sophie Hitchon, médaillée de bronze olympique, a terminé deuxième du classement général final avec un total de 218,11 pts, à peine 0,31 points de mieux que la Moldave Zalina Marghieva.
Bien qu’il n’ait pas réussi à se qualifier pour la finale olympique, Fajdek a conservé son titre du challenge.
Son total de 242,89 points englobait ses lancers à 81,20 m à Turku, 81,11 m à Szekesfehervar et 80,66m à Ostrava.
Pour la seconde année consécutive, Dilshod Nazarov a terminé second du classement général derrière Fajdek, le champion olympique en titre cumulant un total de 236,37 points qui lui a valu de terminer avec une confortable avance sur le médaillé de bronze de Rio, Wojciech Nowicki.
