The IAAF World Junior Championships Oregon 2014 Local Organising Committee (LOC) expanded on their progress since their ‘Raise The Flag’ celebration on 23 July - with one year to the Championships as the focal point - in a presentation to the IAAF Council on Thursday (14).
In recent months, the LOC has actively been promoting the Championships on social media, broadcast platforms and billboards, both in the state of Oregon and nationally.
The LOC announced plans to take advertising slots in the broadcast media during next year’s Winter Olympic Games and Superbowl, as well as promote the Championships at US athletics meetings next summer.
The delegation from Oregon also outlined how they were progressing smoothly towards signing up national partners and suppliers in conjunction with the IAAF Official Partners.
“We are continuing to work towards making this event a success,” said Tracktown USA president Vin Lananna. “There is a sense of confidence and excitement for Oregon 2014, with some exciting new innovations.”
The innovations include providing access to the on Campus University of Oregon theatre, coffee shops and video gaming centre.
Hundreds of volunteers had have already signed up and the LOC have created a student ambassador programme that will link University of Oregon students with the teams at the Championships.
Already there are 90 students from 40 countries, speaking 27 languages, who will act as the ambassadors and the LOC expect to be able to add many more.
Plans for VIP accommodation and transport were well-advanced and also expanded upon while dialogue with the public authorities was also progressing well.
A world-class conference about athletics and a drug-free sport ahead of the Championships was also announced while the closing weekend of the Championships will see a youth and community track and field event for athletes under the age of 12 and a People’s Marathon on the morning of last day.
