Conferences, symposiums and seminars

Several activities have been organised under the supervision of the IAAF. In 1990 the German Sport University Cologne organised a conference funded by the International Athletics Foundation (IAF) on biomechanics ‘Techniques in Athletics’. At the 4th edition of the IAAF World Championships, Stuttgart in 1993 the IAF organised a specific congress on the development co-operation of the IAAF, 'Sport and Athletics for All'.

In 1996 a seminar in Dublin focused on the global vision behind the IAAF’s efforts and activities in development, and there was a symposium organised in Jakarta on women’s related issues.

In 2002 the IAF along with the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation hosted an international working group on youth athletics during the IAAF World Cup.

In 2009, immediately after the IAAF World Championships in Berlin, the IAAF organised the 1st World Coaches Conference in Kienbaun (GER).

In 2012, immediately after the IAAF World Junior Championships, the IAAF organised a special International Youth Athletics Conference in Barcelona, Spain.

In 2013, the 2nd IAAF World Coaches Conference was held in Moscow, Russia, immediately following the end of the IAAF World Championships.

In 2014, the 1st IAAF World Junior Coaches Conference was held in Eugene (USA), immediately following the end of the IAAF World Junior Championships.

In 2015, the 2nd IAAF World Youth Coaches Conference was held in Cali (COL), immediately following the end of the IAAF World Youth Championships.

In 2016, the 2nd IAAF World U20 Coaches Conference was held in Bydgoszcz (POL), immediately following the end of the IAAF World U20 Championships.

In 2017, the 3rd IAAF World Coaches Conference was held in London (GBR), over four mornings of the IAAF World Championships. For the first time, after the presentation from a keynote speaker, a fast information biomechanical report on selected events was delivered and then discussed by the coach of a medallist at the championships.

In 2018, the 3rd IAAF World U20 Conference will be held in Tampere (FIN), on the last morning of the competition of the IAAF World U20 Championships a keynote presentation will be followed by a case study with a U20 coach.
