Belal Mansoor Ali from Bahrain took command of the race from the gun and ran most of it a good ten metres in front of the rest of the field, before really breaking away coming up to the bell.

He stepped on the accelerator  and had built up a lead of some 40 metres by the time he crossed the line in a winning time of 3:36.98.

His compatriot Bader Khalil Bader also increased his pace as the bell sounded and pulling in front of the pack was nearly ten metres in front of third-place finisher Abubaker of Sudan when he finished.

Bader was timed at 3:43.70 – a new personal record, with another lifetime best for Kaki with 3:45.06.
