This is the most successful event ever for Kenya at the IAAF World Junior Championships - with a Kenyan having won every time since the distance was extended to 3000m in 1988 - and Titus Kibiego and Barnabas Kipyegon, the top two at the Kenyan trials, are expected to continue the winning streak.
Kibiego, the 2013 IAAF World Youth Championships 1500m bronze medallist, won over the barriers in Nairobi in 8:22.46 and so it will be a point of interest to see what he can do in what will be his first steeplechase at something approaching sea-level.
Ethiopia’s 2013 world youth champion Meresa Kassaye is ready to run for a podium finish, as well as Morocco’s Soufiane El Bakkali and South Africa’s Tumisang Monnatlala.
