Some of the best pole vaulters in Europe have been confirmed for the Orlen Copernicus Cup in Torun on 8 February, the fourth stop on the 2020 World Athletics Indoor Tour.

In what looks set to be a Sweden vs Poland battle, world silver medallist and European champion Armand Duplantis will line up alongside fellow Swede Melker Svard Jacobsson, the European indoor bronze medallist, as they take on Poland’s world bronze medallist Piotr Lisek and 2011 world champion Paweł Wojciechowski.

While Lisek and Wojciechowski have competed in Torun in front of their home crowd on numerous occasions, Swedish duo Duplantis and Jacobsson will be competing there for the first time.

“I’m really happy that the men’s pole vault will be one of the best events of the meeting,” said general director Krzysztof Wolsztynski. “We’re currently preparing the fields for our track events, but the pole vault and women’s long jump will bring so much joy to the supporters at Arena Torun. Duplantis and Lisek have topped six metres, but I believe that our local hero Pawel Wojciechowski will join the ‘six-metre club’ after the Orlen Copernicus Cup.”
