Women's 200m heats

Sri Lanka's Olympic bronze medallist Susanthika Jayasinghe blasted around the banked track, overtaking former world junior champion Nora Ivanova-Guner, to clock a new Asian indoor record of 22.99 to win heat 1 of the 200m.

Jamaica's Juliet Campbell, who has been in impressive form this season in Europe, confirmed she will be a gold medal threat by winning the last heat emphatically in 23.06, six metres ahead of Kelli White of the USA.

Heat 2 provided the closest finish, with Germany's Birgit Rockmeier pipped on the line by Natalya Vinogradova -23.23 to 23.28.

European Indoor Champion Muriel Hurtis of France was another impressive qualifier, running powerfully to stop the clock at 23.30 in heat 3.

Since only the outside four lanes were used - 6 heats were needed to select tonight's semi-finalists based on heat winners and the nine "fastest losers."
