Ukraine's 2001 World 100m champion Zhanna Pintusevich-Block’s latest IAAF internet diary is now published, and as a supplement here is a statistical review of her year.

For the second straight year Pintusevich-Block posted the World’s fastest time in the 100m, 10.83, which she ran in Heusden, Belgium on 20th July. This year she also jointly holds the world’s second fastest time, 10.84, which she ran at the beginning of July, with Marion Jones also clocking this mark in Monaco, the day before Pintusevich-Block’s world lead run in Heusden.

Pintusevich-Block set a career best of 6 sub 11.00 races and two sub 10.90 races in 2002. Zhanna was only beaten on two occasions in the 100m, in London and Brussels, on both occasions by Marion Jones, the second loss by .02 of a second.

Also this year Pintusevich-Block stepped back up to the 200m – a distance at which she was World champion in 1997 - and recorded the World’s third fastest time (22.24) of the year at the Memorial Van Damme meeting in Brussels, Belgium where Zhanna defeated all the Worlds top 200m runners with the exception of Jones.
