Moroccan Junior Championships – three national records set

The Moroccan Junior Championships which were held on 12-13 June at the Complexe Sportif Prince Moulay Abdellah in Rabat saw three national records improved, in the women’s 800m, 3000m Steeplechase and Pole Vault.

During the first of competition, defending champion Nisrine Dinar improved her own national junior record by 14 centimetres. Her 3.54m jump is also a senior national record.

In the 800m, Halima Hachlaf, sister of 1500m 1993 World Indoor bronze medalist Abdelkader, clocked 2:06.06, a performance which was ratified as a new Moroccan Youth record.

On Sunday, Ibtissam Karmoumen took her own 3000m Steeplechase national record to 10:56, an improvement of 16 seconds!

Other leading performances included a 4:12.00 1500m by 3000m World Youth champion Siham Hilali, a sprint double by Raquib Othmane who clocked 10.4 for the 100m and 21.4 for the 200m, a good 56.63m hammer throw by Driss Barid and the victory of the African Championships silver medallist Bouaké Mohamed Moustaoui in the 1500m (3:38.05).
