Harden and Ottey blaze
a trail in Lucerne
World indoor 60m silver medallist, Tim Harden and evergreen sprint star Merlene Ottey took
advantage of the fast track in Lucerne, Switzerland, to clock 9.92 and 10.97 respectively
for 100m last night.
American sprinter Harden, fourth in the recent US trials, clocked 9.92 with the aid of a 1
mps tailwind to equal the third best performance of the year behind current world leaders
Maurice Greene (9.79) and Ato Boldon (9.86).
Jamaicas Merlene Ottey won the 100m ahead of 200m world champion Zhanna Pintusevich
(who beat her in St Denis on Saturday) in 10.97. The Jamaican then went on to win the 200m
in a wind assisted 22.43. Ottey, who will participate in her seventh World Championships
in Seville, has certainly demonstrated she is still a great competitor at 39.
