The inaugural Asian Indoor Athletic Championships began yesterday in Tehran, Iran, and will conclude on Sunday, 8 February.

The competition is taking place in Piroozi Hall, which offers an impressive six lane synthetic track with facilities for all standard indoor athletic events.

Not surprisingly there were numerous national indoor records and personal bests established in the first day of action, with significant results coming in the men’s Long Jump which was won by Saudi Arabia’s Mohamed Salman Al-Khuwailidi with a 7.94m performance, and the two 60m sprint finals.
