Oliver Dietz will be flying the flag for Germany at the World Half Marathon in New Delhi next month.
The 26-year-old has been given Germany's only place for the competition in India, and will carry the nation's hopes on his shoulders when he lines up at the start on 3 October.
Dietz learned of his selection on Monday when the German Athletics Association (DLV) rewarded him for becoming the fastest German athlete in seven years over the half-marathon distance.
His time of 62:38 at Paderborn in April was enough to beat training partner Carsten Eich.
