The International tournament ‘Romuald Klim Prizes’ on Saturday 9 June was marked by high level results which included another Asian Discus Throw record by Ehsan Hadadi. The Competitions were held at the sport centre “Stajki” which is near Minsk.
Tikhon remains in form...Korolchik comeback
Double World Hammer Throw champion Ivan Tikhon (Tsikhan) threw 81.01, and in the women’s competition Aksana Miankova won again. She sent the hammer to 72.31m. In a class competition Maryia Smaliachkova was second with 71.72m, and Nadzeya Pauliukouskaya came third - 69.91m.
The meeting witnessed a successful comeback to the sport for women’s 2000 Olympic and 2001 World Shot Put champion Yanina Provalinskaja-Korolchik. Already on her first attempt she sent the shot out to 19.24m, and in three further appearances in the circle the shot fell beyond 18m - 18.53, 18.65 and 18.30.
Korolchik’s result comes after three domestic competitions indoors this winter at which she put in the mid-17m region and then a below par 16m effort at the European Indoor Championships in Birmingham.
In Minsk, Yuliya Leantsiuk took second place and established a personal best of 18.89.
The men’s Shot Put win was taken by Jury Belov who showed 19.98m. In four attempts out of six the shot flew beyond 19m - 19.69, 19.46, 19.98, 19.92.
Asian Discus Throw record - 67.95m
Iran’s 2004 World Junior champion Ehsan Hadadi who was trained by Belarussian expert Victor Gutor but nowadays is coached under the direction of Russian Kim Buhantsev broke his own recently set Area record for the men’s Discus Throw (24 May 67.88m). On his second attempt the discus landed at 67.95m. The athlete from Iran produced an impressive series - 65.68, 67.95, 64.93, 67.17, 65.03.
The women’s Discus Throw was won by Irina Yatchenko, the 2003 World champion, with 62.46m.
