For the second consecutive year the Karlstad Grand Prix meeting at the Tingvalla stadium is hosting one of the stops on the 2014 IAAF Hammer Throw Challenge, with Tadjikistan’s Dilshod Nazarov heading the field for the men’s event on Wednesday (16).
The athletics track at the ERGO Arena, the venue for the 2014 IAAF World Indoor Championships in the Polish city of Sopot, was officially opened on Sunday (16) and almost 6000 people flocked to the stadium to get a glimpse of where the most important athletics event of the year will take place.
American 400m hurdler Johnny Dutch ran a world-leading time of 48.02 to upset local hero Javier Culson and US-based Ivory Coast sprinter Murielle Ahoure scored a 100m and 200m sprint double at the 7th Ponce Grand Prix in Puerto Rico, an IAAF World Challenge meeting, on Saturday (19).
Poland’s newly crowned World championship hammer gold medallist Szymon Ziolkowski described last year’s Olympic final in Sydney, which he also won, as “a piece of cake” in comparison to the absorbing tussle he endured against Japan’s Koji Murofushi to win the gold in Edmonton’s Commonwealth stadium.
