Ostrava, Czech RepublicKenyan David Rudisha, the fastest 800m runner in the world in 2009 who also leads the current world season list will have his this summer European opener at 49th Ostrava Golden Spike meeting - IAAF World Challenge - on 27 May.

Rudisha will return to the place where he has already competed twice. He was second in 2008 (1:44.47) and winner last year (1:44.09).

"This will be my third time to come back to Ostrava. I won a good race last year so I am happy to come back and try and win again. My shape is good. I started the season well in Australia and after a race in Doha I should be ready for a nice race in Ostrava. I hope so, the people there are very good and the stadium is always full," said Rudisha.

Rudisha’s next planned race is the Doha IAAF Diamond League opener on 14 May.

Organisers in Ostrava are hoping that as current world leader (1:43.15) and with his improvement last year to 1:42.01 (fastest 800m since 1997) that he might be able to attack the meet record of Wilfried Bungei which stays at 1:43.24 from 2003.
